We at present, all together are fighting against the pandemic of swine flu. Need

of the time is, we all doctors should work hand in hand to tackle this menace and

make the man win against the disease. Hope this pandemic ends early.

It gives me great delight inviting you all for the MAHAPEDICON 2009 being held at Pune. Your

gracious presence will be highly appreciated. So please make it a point to attend it. And last but not the

We will implement the plan of our central IAP president .I request all the local

branches to participate in community awareness & health programmes. Please arrange the First Golden

Minute Programme , NRP workshops in your branch. Tele medicine & Tele education network have

become the need of this modern era. IAP Hasan is arranging Tele workshops every year from 2004.I

request every branch to have facilities for downloading these programmes so that you can refresh your

knowledge sitting at your home town. Cost of the equipment for downloading is only 8 to 10 thousand

Rs.

I believe that our our members are our real strength & branches are backbone of IAP. We will continue

our efforts to increase the number of members. There are approximately 40% pediatrician who are not in

the main steam of central IAP.I appeal to all the members to enroll at least one new member to IAP. New

branches should be formed even at taluka places. Even 5 members can join as a branch. Central IAP is

providing Rs. 5000 grant for initial activity of the new branch.

Our local branches must become more active & vibrant. Branches should take active participation in

celebrating IAP Adolescent week, Breast Feeding week. ORS awareness campaning, Local branches

should arrange programmes like ASPP, SCOPP, GEM & PALS, NALS certificate courses.

Lastly I request your whole hearted support, guidance & blessings.

We are happy to present the information of state branch & its district branch activities through this news

bulletin. New team of office bearers & executive council members took charge on Jan 20009 under able

guidance of our state IAP president Dr. Jayant Gaikwad . I congratulate & thank all executive members for being

on the council. We will strive to execute President's action plan for the year 2009 .

Highlights of President's action plana] Formation of New IAP Branches at town ,taluka & at districts where there is no branch yet. President sir has

put it first on the list in executive council meeting . Central IAP is giving Rs 5000 for the same. As more

number of paediatritians are there in nondistrict towns , many new branches will be formed.

b] Membership drive in your area. As per the directives of central IAP, non-central IAP members can be made

Affiliate Members'. We have to make these affiliate members & othre non-members as central IAP members .

There is an award for the branch making maximum number of new central IAP member.I appeal to all the

members to ask the new members or pediatrians from your city /town to become Central IAP member. IAP

membership form & information of change in life membership fee is given in this bulletin

c] Partly sponsored CMEs. Individual branch should arrange the CME in there branch, part sponsorship of Rs

10000 will be provided by state branch.

d] Report all your branch activities to state branch

It has been observed that many branches carry out lot of academic,non-academic ,novel activities. Pl report it

your state branch.Guidelines for reporting activities already sent to president ,secretaries of individual

branches. Branches like Nagpur , Amravati, Aurangabad rae doing lot of activities & reporting it regularly.

New branch should be seen accepting the award for different activities like breast feeding week, ORS week ,

Teenage Day ,Child & Adolscent health care week. I appeal to send the reports regularly. We solicit your

active participation & contribution in the success of our President's action plan.

e] It has been decided by executive council to felicitate two teachers from state in state conference. All yhe

branches are requested to send the names.

f] You will receive the ballot papers, keep ready xerox copy of your ID proof & post the ballot paper , before you

forget.

2009 are starting from 19 July 2009. The first CME is on Neonatology. The forthcoming CMEs willrd

Further details of the CMEs will be announced shortly and also put on IAP Website.

We are sure that these CMEs will help members in interacting with experts in respective sub

-specialties and hence learning without traveling out of his / her cities. We seek your active

participation to make this event a grand success.

You can take local sponsorship to meet with the expenses incurred in installing the equipments and /

or downlinking to MCF, ISRO, Hassan. Kindly be informed that Central IAP will have no financial

liability for downlinking these programs.

'Pediatric Refresher Course' for Family Physicians an innovative waystIndian Academy of Pediatrics, Raigad District Branch (M.S.) successfully organized a 'Pediatric Refresher Course on 31

May 2009 at Nagothane(Raigad) for Family Physicians of Raigad District in a very innovative way. This was an innovation asfar as Refresher Courses for Family Physicians are concerned. This was a conference with difference in following ways:

General

· No sponsorships from Pharma, No stalls, No gifts etc

· Minimum possible registration fees. (Rs. 300/-)

· Accounts were submitted on the same day and total transparency was maintained.

· Time was not wasted on Non academic formalities like inauguration, Valedictory,

Introduction (As short as possible!). Resources were not wasted on mementoes, Flowers,Bouquets. Heavy meals, Banquet etc.

Conference information

· Panel discussions (and not monotonous lectures) were arranged on very important and practical topics (based

on suggestions from Family Phys.)

· Justice was done with every topic by allotting maximum possible time. Care was taken to solve queries of Family

Physicians in their day-to-day practice. Questions were accepted in all languages. Sufficient time and opportunitywas given to audience to express their views on the topics in every session.

· Power point Presentations were presented in 'Case Study Format' rather than 'Theory Format'.

· All active pediatricians of the District were moderators and panelists.

Dr. Mohite (Panvel), Dr.Bhandarkar (Panvel), Dr. Dhamankar (Alibag), Dr. Chandorkar (Alibag), Dr. Deshmukh(Alibag), Dr. Jain (Karjat), Dr. Gangolia (Karjat), Dr. Wankhede (Khopoli), Dr. Mrs. Ingale (Khopoli), Dr. Kejariwal(Khopoli), Dr. Wagale (Roha), Dr. Patankar (Mangaon), Dr. Sheth (Mahad), Dr. Dabhadkar (Mahad) were actively involved in the implementation of the project.

Topics discussed· Approach to a child with Cough.· Approach to a child with Fever· Common Pediatric Emergencies in Office Practice- Dos and Don'ts· Newborn Care Dos and Don'ts· Rational Pediatrics Office Practice (Lecture by Dr. Amdekar Sir)· A 'Rapid Fire Session” (Your Question, Our Answer), and 'Photo gallery session', though planned, could not be

presented for want of time.

Dr. Y.K. Amdekar, a senior teacher, accepted invitation and was available throughout the day to express his expert views and comments wherever needed. He delivered a 'Key Note Address'.

The information acquired in this innovative refresher course will help all medical practitioners in the long run. All Family Physicians expressed their utmost satisfaction on selection of topics, mode of discussion, academic information, Venue, Menu, Organization, Accounts etc. They were very happy to interact with Dr. Amdekar Sir.

Dr. Y. K. Amdekar appreciated the efforts of IAP, Raigad to scatter scientific information on important topics in Pediatrics. He suggested that Raigad IAP should take lead in preparing such modules on other important aspects of Pediatric practice and should present the same in all IAP Branches of the State.

IAP / IMA branches can call /write /e-mail if they want to organize such Refresher Course for Family Physicians in an innovative way.
