1.6 Mesh Generation / 'enmeshment'

By selecting 'enmeshment' you get to the main window for calculating the mesh, 'mesh genera-tion', from where you define all further parameters. The enmeshment results are displayed in the 'calculated mesh size' window.

What is a Calculation Mesh?

A division of the geometries created in the preprocessor into calculation elements.

What to Pay Attention to?

A higher number of mesh elements increases the simulation accuracy but also the calculation time.

Page 15: MAGMASOFT® 4.4 Reference Guide (English)

CH. 1: THE POSSIBILITIES OF MAGMASOFT® 15

How is the Mesh Generated?

• The mesh is mainly generated automatically using predefined parameters. You can change these parameters ( 'STANDARD'). It is also possible to use different enmeshment param-eters for different material groups ( 'ADVANCED' for two sets of parameters, 'ADVANCED2' for three sets of parameters). You can also create a mesh automatically only ( 'AUTOMATIC').

The Parameters

• How accurately are the coordinates read from the geometry ( 'WALL THICKNESS')?

• How many times are the elements divided ( 'ACCURACY') and how small are they allowed to become ( 'ELEMENT SIZE')?

• What is the aspect ratio of neighbouring elements ( 'OPTIONS' 'SMOOTHING') and be-tween the edges of a single element ( 'OPTIONS' 'RATIO')?

Further Functions

• Automatic core generation ( 'CORE GENERATION')

• Removing materials for enmeshment

These two functions require steps in the preprocessor in advance.

• Generating the mesh for solver 5 ( 'MESH FOR SOLVER 5') (filling simulation, page 16)

Further Steps

Control the number of cells ( 'CALCULATE' window 'CALCULATED MESH SIZE').

Generate the mesh ( 'GENERATE' window 'CALCULATED MESH SIZE').

Display the mesh visually, including control points, and check it for critical areas ( 'POST-PROCESSOR' 'RESULTS' tab 'GEOMETRY' 'MESH_QUALITY', <CONTROL POINTS>).

1.9 Databases / 'database'

By selecting 'database' you get to the database main window, from which you administrate the data.

To work with these data, buttons in dialogue fields and menu entries are available at several lo-cations of the program. With these, you can directly access databases and integrate data in run-ning processes, e.g. construction or simulation.

Which Databases are Available?

To ensure the availability of data for different projects and users, the following databases are dis-tinguished:

• 'MAGMA' (access for all user groups; data can be read but not modified): DATABASE MAGMA

• 'Global' (access for all user groups; data can be read and modified): DATABASE GLO-BAL

• 'User' (access for individual user; this user can read and modify data): DATABASE USER

• 'Project' (can be created for each version of a project, is located in the directory of the corre-sponding version) DATABASE PROJECT (Name).

The different MAGMASOFT® databases

• contain all data needed for simulation (e.g. material data, heat transfer files, filter materials, geometry elements etc.)

• save time and effort, since a lot of manual input can be replaced by database entries.

• can be adapted to individual requirements.

• can be protected against unwanted changes

You can invoke existing data from a database as well as add newly created data to the database, e.g. geometry elements. These can be invoked at any time.
