Jamie Laval Once a resident of the Puget Sound region, Jamie now lives in Asheville, North Carolina. He serves on the faculty of The Swannanoa Gathering, a summer institute for traditional arts and music.

In 2009 Music Factor Project and Arts Alive! Center for the Arts, introduced Jamie to students in Enumclaw, touring him through 4 schools: EHS, EMS, TMMS and Southwood. Through mentorship, demonstration and performances, Jamie began to develop a special relationship with our music students.

The 2009 event, covering 4 days and culminating in a community concert, raised over $1000 for each of the four participating schools—money specifically earmarked for music education.

In early 2010 Jamie was back at Southwood, performing for the whole school and spending special instructional and motivational time with the Students in Magic Strings. The enthusiasm the children showed at his return only heightened their learning experience with him.

Jamie Laval was warmly received and the feedback following the 2009 mini-tour was extremely positive. When it was announced that Magic Strings, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, would be adding a first grade program in the fall of 2010 --never before available—it was important that Jamie be part of the event to raise funds in support of this program expansion. All proceeds from this event will go toward purchasing instruments for new and future Magic Strings Students.

In 2002 Jamie won the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship and subsequently embarked on a full time touring career which today includes over 120 engagements per year throughout the U.S. and Scotland.

His critically esteemed debut CD recording, Shades of Green, airs regularly on many NPR programs nationwide. Meanwhile, Zephyr In The Confetti Factory, his duo album with mandolinist Ashley Broder, won Best World Traditional Song in the 2007 Independent Music Awards Vox Populi.

Jamie has also collaborated on numerous television, film, and CD recordings, including Dave Matthews’ Some Devil, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wild America, and WB-TV series Everwood.

Recent live performances include the Bijou Theatre (Knoxville), Wintergrass Festival (Tacoma), the Freight & Salvage (Berkeley), Swallow Hill Productions (Denver), Club Passim (Boston), The Fringe Festival (Edinburgh), the NBC Today Show, The West Coast Live radio show, and a private appearance for Her Majesty the Queen.

Zac LegerAppearing with Jamie Laval for the first time in 2009, Enumclaw hosted the world debut of what has come to be an amazing musical pairing.

A musical wunderkind, Zac performs on the guitar, bouzouki (“a mandolin on steroids”), flutes, whistles, uilleann pipes (Irish bag pipes) and a plethora of other instruments, not the least of which is a pair of wooden knitting needles he uses to play fiddlesticks.

In 2010 he returned to Enumclaw with Jamie to work with the Magic Strings students. He will be joining Jamie in concert on June 4th as well, to benefit Magic Strings expansion in the fall.

Zac Leger has been touring and playing music professionally for ten years. He holds numerous medals on various instruments from both the U.S. and Ireland, including an All-Ireland piping medal, one of few Americans to hold this prestigous title.

He has recorded on over a dozen albums and has played, recorded and performed with the likes of The Border Collies, John Doyle (ex-Solas), Glen Road, Liz Carroll, Rathkeltair, cittern player Joseph Sobol, Oisre (of which he was a founding member), fiddler Charlene Adzima, and world-renowned finger-style guitarist Al Petteway to name a few.

In 2005, he spent 8 months traveling under a program bringing traditional music to schools all across the country.

In 2007 he was the principle uilleann piper in the Irish dance show "Emerald Beat", based at Busch Gardens theme parks.

He is currently a member of the critically acclaimed Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul as well as the Irish-based show "Celtic Crossroads".

As a performer, Zac brings a deep respect for the tradition, coupled with an intuitive grasp of melodic structure on the Irish pipes and wooden flute. As an accompanist, he provides innovative rhythmic, counter-point and harmonic lines which add energy and pulse to dance tunes, coupled with tasteful finger-style playing that breathes new life into his singing of traditional songs.

Zac has toured all over the U.S., Canada and Ireland and currently resides in Los Angeles.
