born and raised. He described his nationality in a quite

unusual way: not German, not Kaszubian (although

ethnically his roots were in both these lands) but a citi-

zen of Gdańsk. We are talking about Günter Grass, the

author of The Tin Drum.

He lived in the Free City of Danzig (currently

Gdańsk) which was then inhabited mostly by Germans.

During his childhood he lived on the now non-existent

Labes Weg (currently somewhere around Lelewela

street). Before the World War II it was a calm workers’

street. After the war it was forgotten. Today, after the

renovation, Wajdeloty street and its neighbourhood re-

gained life. It tempt visitors with vegan cafes, cozy pubs

and restaurants. You can also find here local artists and

plenty of young people, for they are keen on buying

apartments in this fashionable district. The renovation

turned out to be a metamorphosis of the year – it has re-

ceived the first prize in the Best Organised Urban Space

in Poland, organised by the Polish Urban Society in

cooperation with the Polish Cities’ Association. But the

best proof of this change is the presence of people who

have simply gone out onto the streets of Dolne Miasto

and started living. See it for yourself, it is really pleasant

there! And you can follow the routes taken by the char-

acters of Danzig Trilogy, part of which is The Tin Drum.

Wałęsa’s and John Paul II’s ZaspaAt first glance it is a typically Polish block of flats

district. But there is something that makes it unique.

Zaspa is one of the biggest residential areas in Gdańsk.

Huge blocks from the 70s used to disfigure rather than

adorn the scenery. But for a several years now this

place is a constantly expanding gallery of large-scale

paintings. And it has all started with… John Paul II’s

visit. In 1987 the “Polish pope” visited the “City of

Solidarity” and one of his stops was at Zaspa. Million

people listened to a mass carried out by the pope.

Some of them were listening to his words from open

windows of their flats. To welcome him, people hung

up huge sheets with his image. And it was these por-

traits documented on photos that many years later

Once neglected, they were not somewhere

you would like to find yourself, especially

after sundown. Yet, thanks to great personas

of the 20th century, there are very interesting stories

rooted in both these neighbourhoods. Today we can

proudly show you their streets!

Günter Grass’s Wrzeszcz DolnyOne of the biggest parts of Gdańsk, Wrzeszcz, is

divided into two neighbourhoods: Wrzeszcz Górny

and Wrzeszcz Dolny. Up until now only the first one,

situated south-west from the railways, was full of life.

Not everyone remembered that on the other side in

Wrzeszcz Dolny a Noble Prize in Literature winner was

MAIN TOWN, LONG BRIDGE, SHIPYARD, OLIWA – THESE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL PLACES THAT CANNOT BE OVERLOOKED ONCE YOU ARE IN GDAŃSK. BUT THERE ARE ALSO TWO NEIGHBOURHOODS WHICH USED TO BE GRIM AND FORGOTTEN AND NOW, THANKS TO THE CREATIVITY OF PEOPLE WHO LOVE THIS CITY – CITIZENS, ARTISTS AND ACTIVISTS, HAVE GAINED A NEW LIFE. There are also many interesting cultural events tak-

ing place there, such as the fire show “Painted by Fire”,

open-air film showings or the “Chopin na blokowisku”

project – Chopin’s music concert performed in the

neighbourhood. Have a look at the calendar of websites

Förr var de försummade och det var ingenting man

kunde hitta där, särskilt när det blev mörkt utomhus.

Men båda dessa stadsdelar har så många intressanta histo-

rier att berätta, också på grund av 1900-talets kända perso-

ner. Idag är vi stolta över att ha en möjlighet att guida här!

Günter Grass och Wrzeszcz DolnyWrzeszcz är ett av de största områden i Gdańsk och är

uppdelad i två delar: Wrzeszcz Górny (sv. Övre Wrzeszcz)

och Wrzeszcz Dolny (sv. Nedre Wrzeszcz). Hittills sjöd

bara den första av livet. Den ligger sydväst om järnvägen.

Inte alla kommer ihåg att det var här, på denna sida av

have inspired Rafał Roskowiński, one of the Monu-

mental Art initiators, to create a mural remembering

those events. The one from 1999 shows two Polish

icons of the 80s – John Paul II and Lech Wałęsa. In

the background there is the altar of that special mass.

The artwork is kept in a “devotional” aesthetics. The

second mural commemorating the neighbourhood’s

history is “Wałęsa in pixels”. It is painted on the apart-

ment building in which the Polish Noble Peace Prize

laureate lived in the 80s. Piotr Szwabe is its creator.

The mural art in Zaspa is not separating itself from

the contemporary world. Every year, as part of the Monu-

mental Art Festival, new artworks are created in Zaspa by

artists from around the world – Brasil, France, Cuba and,

of course, Poland. They are kept in different conventions

– from abstract and conceptual art to purely decorative

forms. Local guides, usually residents of Zaspa, show

people around the Murals Gallery. They tell stories of each

artwork and help navigate the complex topography of the

block complex (and this topography is impressive – just

take a look at a birds-eye-view photograph of Zaspa).

Wrzeszcz Dolny, föddes och växte upp en nobelpristagare

som definierade ganska ovanligt sin tillhörighet. Inte

"tysk", eller "kaszub" (även om han hade med både Tysk-

land och Kasjubien att göra), men "Gdańskbo". Vi pratar

om Günter Grass, en författare till "Blecktrumman".

Han bodde i Fria Staden Danzig som inte längre finns

men som tyskar bosätte i större delen. Under sitt barn-

dom levde han på historiska Labes Weg (i närhet av nu-

tidens Lelewela gata). Före andra världskriget var det ett

lugnt arbetsområde. Efter kriget, föll det i försummelse.

Idag återkommer Wajdeloty gata med sin omgivning till

liv, efter att ha blivit ombyggt, och frestar med veganska

krogar, mysiga caféer och pubar. Man kan också träffa

lokala konstnärer och ungdomar som allt oftare köper

lägenheter i detta trendiga område. Vitalisering av denna

stadsdel var årets metamorfos och fick första pris för

bäst organiserat offentligt miljö i Polen, tävling anordnad

av Towarzystwo Urbanistów Polskich (sv. förening av

polska stadsplenare) i samarbete med Związek Miast Polskich (sv. förening av polska städer). Men det bästa

beviset på denna förändring, är människor som gick ut på

gator i Dolne Miasto och började njta av livet. och började

leva. Se själv hur trevligt det kan vara! Och sist men inte

mins kan du gå på promenad i fotspår av karaktärer från

så kallad Gdańsk trilogi, i vilken "Blecktrumman" ingår.

Zaspa – Lech Wałęsa och påven Johannes Paulus IIDet verkar vara ett vanligt bostadsområde i Polen. Men

ändå finns det något som gör det så speciellt. Zaspa är ett

av de största bostadsområden i Gdańsk. Stora blockhus

från 1970-talet förfular snarare omgivningen än föskönar

den. Under många år, har denna plats varit en ständigt

växande galleri med väggmålningar. Och det hela

började med... besök av Johannes Paulus II. 1987 kom

"polsk påve" till Solidaritets stad. Ett av hans stopp var

just Zaspa. Mäss som hölls då i Zaspa samlade en miljon

människor. Några av dem lyssnade på påvens ord genom

öppna fönster i sina lägenheter. En välkommen gest från

invånare var jättestora ark med hans avbild. Och dessa

affischer, förevigade i dokumentära fotografier, inspire-

rade Rafał Roskowiński många år senare. Nu är Rafał en

av initiativtagare av Monumental Art festival, och ville

skapa en väggmålning till minne av denna händelse. Mu-

ralmållning från 1999 visar två viktiga polackerfrån 1980-

talet - Johannes Paulus II och Lech Wałęsa. I bakgrunden

kan man se altar från denna historiska mäss. Konstverket

hålls i religiös estetik. Den andra väggmålningen till

minne av Zaspas historia är Lech Wałęsas pixlerad bild.

Det syns på ett av blockhus i vilket polsk Nobelfredsprista-

gare bodde på 1980-talet. Peter Szwabe är muralens ska-

pare. Muralmålningar i Zaspa är inte stängda för världen.

Varje år skapas nya verk av konstnärer från hela världen

- Brasilien, Frankrike, Kuba, och naturligtvis Polen inom

Monumental Art väggmålnings festival. Dessa konstverk

skapas i olika konventioner - från abstraktion, genom

konceptkonst, fram till rent dekorativa former. Lokala

guider, mestadels invånare av Zaspa, tar oss på en tur på

Mural Galleri. De berättar historier om skapandet av vart

och ett av verk och hjälper oss att förstå en krånlig topo-

grafi av flerbostadshus (och Zaspas topografi är verkligen

imponerande - titta bara på bild tagen från luften).

Det är här många intressanta kulturella evenemang

tar plats. Till exempel fire shows "Ogniem malowane" (sv.

Målad med eld), filmvisningar utomhus eller projektet

"Chopin bland flerbostadshus" - konserter med Chopins

from all over the world to enjoy good food, relax-

ation, fun, culture and beauty. When the high season is

over, when the streets are free of the tiring flock of tour-

ists, Sopot shows its more intimate character. Numerous

night clubs are still teeming with life but only at the week-

ends, and they’re full of young inhabitants of Tricity and

students. The city recovers its balance, as in the autumn,

places where one can listen to jazz music while enjoying

a delicious meal and a glass of wine come back into fa-

vour. One of them is the legendary Yellow Jazz Club in

Dom Zdrojowy in the heart of the city.

Sopot is famous for its beneficial effects on both

the frame of mind and health. By enjoying the benefits

of iodine, the body gains strength from the very fact

of your being by the sea. A walk on the beach, more

mysterious than before, will boost the immune system.

After such a walk, visiting one of local restaurants and

having a hot drink is a must. What about a cup of hot

fragrant tea in a place with a view of the rough sea?

Sheer magic. But that's not all. Before Sopot became

one of the most popular tourist destinations in Poland,

it'd been a resort. Already at the end of the 19th cen-

tury, the local aristocracy came "by the sea" to repair

their respiratory systems. Therefore, in the historic ren-

Strolling along the streets of Gdynia, you can

sense a unique atmosphere. Maybe this is be-

cause of that modernist architecture and a sym-

metrical layout of streets, which make the spirit of the

city appear so unique. You can feel freedom in the air.

It is a city located by the sea, with a prosperous seaport

and a vibrant cultural life. Perhaps this freshness and

vitality result from the fact that Gdynia was built sooner

than many other cities in the USA, which are young as

compared with the European ones – it emerged only in

the 20th century. It dates back to the interwar period –

a short time when Poland, after 123 years under the rule

of other nations, gained new vital strength and wanted

to show what it got.

There was a need to establish the first modern port

belonging entirely to Poland. The authorities of the

reborn country were hindered from using the one in

the Free City of Danzig (today's Gdansk). Construction

began in 1920, as soon as the area of present Gdynia

had been officially annexed to Poland. A few years later,

on 4 March 1926, Gdynia was granted city rights. The

first permanent Gdynia – New York passenger line was

launched in 1930. The first historical transatlantic cruise

from Gdynia was carried out by the famous “Batory”

liner. Within a few years, Gdynia became the most

prosperous and modern seaport of the Baltic Sea. Rapid

development of the maritime industry resulted in urban

development, and the thought of architects followed

the thought of engineers. New enterprises in modernist

premises were set up. Labour was needed. Poles from all

over the country came to the seaside. In 1939, the former

fishing village had 127 thousand inhabitants.

The story of Gdynia, like many other Polish cities and

towns, is interrupted with the outbreak of World War II.

Under the Nazis’ occupation, the majority of Poles who

had settled there were displaced again. In 1945, the coun-

try was liberated by the Red Army. Fortunately, apart

from the seaport and the railway destroyed by the escap-

ing Nazis, the city survived without suffering substantial

damage. Later, Gdynia went through another rough

period – the communist regime. In the 1950s and 1960s,

the life of ordinary people went on. Unfortunately, in

1970, Gdynia saw tragic events related to the strike of

shipyard workers from Gdańsk. The events, known as

December 1970, were commemorated with a monument

in Aleja Piłsudskiego Street.

Today, the beautiful city is one of the largest and

most prosperous seaports of the Baltic Sea, and its mod-

ernist architecture is still the showcase. Local guides

show tourists around, presenting modernist buildings of

the city and telling the stories about the construction of

the most important ones.

Gdynia's trolley buses are shown by the international

media and at conferences as an example of a sustainable

solution for public transport. In any case, all is well-thought

here – the most important places are located in the city

centre, and you can go from one to another on foot.

Redłowo and Orłowo, separate villa districts, are located a

bit further from the centre. In Orłowo, there is modern Po-

meranian Science and Technology Park and Experyment

Science Centre, an educational centre for children, taking

them to the world of fascinating natural phenomena.

Gdynia is also a paradise for shoppers. The largest

shopping centre in the northern Poland – Riviera – is

located here. The building itself, despite its large size, is

not imposing but discretely incorporated into the city

landscape. As other similar places, Riviera is located

very near the city centre, by the main road connecting all

three cities.

Finally, Gdynia is one of the best tourist destinations

in Poland – with its broad beach, promenade with cosy

restaurants and cafes, as well as spectacular marina

attracting visitors. There is also a magnificent landscape

with hills and a cliff. You just want to be there. What is

interesting is the fact that Gdynia is the sunniest city

in Poland (it might be difficult to notice it in autumn or

winter, though).

You will find plenty of cultural attractions here –

museums, cultural centres and concert halls. But you

would not be able to enjoy it if you were starving. It is

impossible to be hungry in Gdynia, however. In the last

years, plenty of really great restaurants were opened

here. And again, you do not need to go far, as it is enough

to go down Świętojańska Street or turn into one of the

side streets to find one. And while visiting the city, do not

forget about the seaport, which also has something for

tourists. It is the newly-established Emigration Museum

in a building, the late maritime station.

tage of one of the largest sport offers. Visitors are awaited

as well as Up8, Sneakers by Distance, City Sport, Martes

Sport, Intersport, 50 Style, Sizeer and Bergson. Outfit

selection is just the beginning of a sport adventure in the

Centre. Those who are willing may also go to the Tiger

Gym Fitness Club. And after performing sport activities

70 000m2 and almost 250 options make

every shopping spree an expedition in

search of dream inspirations. This is

an object, in which everyone has a chance to find their

own style. On two levels of the newest fashion trends,

technologies and services, fans of Scandinavian (H&M,

shares her experience with patients.

‘I underwent treatment with iLASIK in our

Clinic 3.5 years ago due to short-sightedness. It

was performed by Czuszyński, MD. The effect

is positive and permanent. I’m very grateful

to the doctor,’ recalls dr. Słomińska. ’I know

very well how the treatment looks like for the

patient: waiting in the preparatory room, eye

drops, lid speculums, pressure of femtosecond

laser tip, lifting the flap, sounds of the laser

during laser ablation. But I also remember that

I saw clearly already on my way back home.

Laser vision correction is a standard

nowadays. It is very precise and re-

stores patients’ vision, allowing them to

see clearly without glasses or contact lenses.

However, treatment prices may considerably

vary across the European Union. In Poland,

the treatment costs about twice or even

three times less than the same treatment in

Scandinavian countries. Blikpol in Sopot is

the only clinic on the Polish ophthalmological

market with iLASIK technology – state-of-the-

art technology using iFS 5th generation femto-

second laser by Abbott Medical Optics. It’s the

After treatment, you recover quite fast, and

symptoms like watering or sensitivity to light

disappear after a few hours,’ she says.

What’s the procedure like for a patient who

is a foreigner? To undergo vision correction

treatment in Blikpol clinic, you must undergo

a qualifying examination in the clinic in Sopot.

The examination may take place on the same

day as the treatment or another day – three

months before the treatment at most. If you

choose a one-day treatment, you must stay

in Poland at least for two days (day 1 – diag-

nostics and treatment, day 2 – check-up). If

possible, it’s better to stay for a week to have

another check-up.

The staff of Blikpol clinic speaks English flu-

ently. A doctor will easily provide all detailed

information on the treatment, and the patient

will obtain treatment documentation together

with the consent form in English. Blikpol is ex-

perienced in treating foreign patients, includ-

And what to expect after the treatment?

‘I remember that for a few days after the treat-

ment, I experienced a symptom that other

Laser synkorrigering är dagens världsstan-

dard. Den ger livskvalitet utan glasögon

eller linser och är extremt noggran och exakt.

Däremot kan priser i olika EU-länder variera

kraftigt. I Polen är kostnaden för en sådan be-

handling ibland två eller tre gånger mindre än

i Skandinavien. Blikpol i Sopot är hittills den

enda kliniken på den polska oftalmiska mark-

naden, som har iLASIK - den nyaste metoden

att använda IFS - femtosekund laser av femte

generation från Abbott Medical Optics. Det är

också den enda metoden i världen godkänd

av NASA och den amerikanska armén för att

korrigera synen hos sina astronauter och sol-

dater. Kort sagt - mer exakt och säkrare kan

det inte vara.

Framgången för behandlingen beror också

på en läkare. MD Judyta Aniśko-Słomińska på

Blikpol klinik har blivit årets oftalmolog enligt

Pommerns Hippokrates enkät, anordnat av

en lokal tidning i Gdańsk "Dziennik Bałtycki".

Hon är inte bara en erfaren ögonläkare, men

hon har även själv undergått en synkorriger-

ing med iLASIK metod. Nu delar hon sina

erfarenheter med sina patienter.

– På grund av kortsiktighet undergick

jag en iLASIK behandling i vår klinik för

3,5 år sedan. Operationen utfördes av MD

Czuszyński. Effekten var mycket bra och sta-

bil. Tills idag, är jag mycket tacksam för min

läkare - säger hon. - Jag vet exakt hur patienter

mår under behandlingen: stress i förbered-

ningssalan, droppar, spekulum, klämring av

femtosekund laser, höjning av klaffen, ljud

av laserablation (lasergravyr - redaktions an-

teckning). Men jag minns också att på vägen

tillbaka från operationen kunde jag se klart

väldigt snabbt. Konvalescensen tog mycket

kort tid, och symptom liksom rinnade ögon

samt fotofobi kvarstår bara några timmar -

tillägger hon.

Hur ser ut en behandlingsprocess för

patienten från utomlands? Att utföra syn-

korrigeringen på Blikpol klinik, är det nöd-

vändigt att undergå en läkarundersökning

här på plats i Sopot. Den kan utföras samma

dag som behandlingen, eller någon annan

tid - upp till tre månader i förväg. Vid fall

av endagsbesök krävs det att man stannar

minst två dagar i Polen (dag 1 - diagnostik

och behandling, dag 2 - kontrollbesök). Om

möjligt, rekommenderas det att stanna kvar

en vecka för att träffa läkaren igen och kon-

trollera att allt är bra.

av operationen och patienten får behandlin-

gens dokumentation tillsamans med skrivet

Bake bread, learn to embroiderRural tourism is simply a countryside holiday.

We can relax in the householders’ home, spend

time with them, observe them at work and eat

everyday meals. In a way become a part of the

family and at the same time take advantage of

the benefits of the farm and its region. We can

also approach rural tourism in a more active

way – roll up our sleeves, step up to the chal-

lenge and get to work on the farm. Where, if not

in the countryside, will we learn how to milk

cows, bake an amazing, healthy loaf of bread,

embroider a Kaszuby pattern on a handker-

chief or brush a horse? These are all activities

that many of us read about in books, but do not

have the possibility actually experience them.

While relaxing on a tourist farm we can taste

the true countryside life through participating

in everyday farm work or folk customs.

Back in the day, when the Polish society

was still trying to gather assets in the city,

most people had family in the countryside

where children would spend their summers.

Times have changed and today a holiday in the

countryside is an authentic, but directed set

of opportunities to get in touch with nature.

Pomorskie is currently a third region of rural

tourism in Poland. It is worth to familiarize

and gives new perspective. And while most of

today’s big city citizens cannot imagine moving

to the countryside, they appreciate healthy

country lifestyle. This is where the growing pop-

ularity of rural tourism comes from.

On an Iskra Stud Farm in Sztumskie Pole

we will discover horse riding. But the owner,

Jakub Gossa, offers us much more – the pro-

gramme includes horse riding trips around the

region and activities in the stables. Thanks to

such a complex offer we can familiarize our-

selves with the complete horse-riding alphabet.

Those yarning for rural tourism should

visit Smołdzin and the U Bernickich guest-

house. Taking place there are open-air paint-

ing, sculpting and photography workshops.

An unlimited access to magical panorama is

given by the Słowiński National Park, one of

the biggest national parks in Poland.

Redan i XVI-talet skrev polska poeter

dikter till landsbygdens ära. Trots att mycket

tid har gått sedan dess verkar deras ande

nytt perspektiv. Mestadels av invånare i stora

städer kan inte föreställa sig att flytta ut på

av fördelar med gården och dess omgivnin-

gar. Man kan också ta en aktiv approach till

mjölka kor, baka ett underbart, färskt bröd,

brodera en servett med kasjubiska mönstret

Fönsterutsikt över en trädgård full av

röda vallmor och gula solrosor, och inte över

en trafikerad gata. Färsk mjölk, direkt från

kor, och inte från paket. Till och med tystnad

och fullständig avkoppling i sällskap med per-

dessa aktiviteter i böcker, men har inte ens

möjlighet att se hur man utför dem. När man

vilar på lantgård kan man erfara lantlivets

riktiga smak just genom att delta i jordbruks-

arbete eller i folkseder. Förr i tiden, när pol-

ska samhället bara började arbeta sig uppåt

hade de flesta en familj på landet där barn

tillbringade hela sitt sommarlov. Tiderna har

förändrats och avkopplingen på landet är ett

autentiskt men fortfarande iscensatt urval av

möjligheter att vara nära naturen. Pomorski

regionen kommer nu på tredje plats inom

landsbygdsinkvartering i Polen. Det är då värt

Hästar, landskap och lavendelMångfalden av landsbygdsinkvartering är fan-

tastisk. I Przywidz odlar Barbara och Bartosz

Idczak lavendel. I sin Lawendowa Osada

(Lavendelsamhälle) utför de workshoppar

inom odling, användning och bearbetning av

lavendel som hänvisar till traditionella meto-

der att producera mat eller andra varor.

I stuteriet Iskra i Sztumskie Pole kan man

i sin tur smittas av passion för ridning. Dess

ägare, Jakub Gossa, erbjuder dock mycket

mer. Programmet omfattar även ridturer i

området och lektioner i häststallet. Tack vare

sådant brett utbud kan man lära sig hela ”rid-

ningsalfabet”.

Konstnärliga själar borde besöka Pensjonat

u Bernackich i Smołdzino. Här kan man delta

i friluftsmålning, skulptering och fotogra-

fering. Obegränsad tillgång till fantastiska

landskapsutsikter garanteras av Słowiński

nationalparken, en av de största i Polen.

På landet för hälsanUtflykt till en lantgård är inte bara unik atmos-

fär och attraktioner som man inte har tillgång

till i stad. Avkoppling i naturen är ren hälsa

helt enkelt. Och det handlar inte bara om

klimatet och frisk luft där man äntligen kan

andas fritt och djupt. Inte utan betydelse är

att måltider serverade i lantgården är av högst

kvalitet – matvaror är alltid färska, ekologiskt

odlade, kommer direkt från naturen, från

jordbrukarna själva eller från lantgårdarna i

grannskapet. Precis som i Zagroda Śledziowa

(Sillgården) som ligger nära Ustka, där värd-

arna erbjuder sill av alla slag - färsk, full av lo-

kala tillägg och ingredienser väcker gästernas

sinnen. Besökare uppskattar alltid smak av

ekologiskt odlade grönsaker och frukter samt

av ägg från glada, frigående höns. Det visar sig

att mat på landet har en fullständigt ny smak.

Säkert kan man då säga att landsbygdsturis-

men är avkoppling för både kropp och själ.

their own consultants, who may offer compre-

01 Gdansk

The largest brick church (third one in Northern

Europe). Its impressive 80 m tower is an amazing

observation point. Definitely worth climbing the 409

steps to enjoy the panorama of the whole city. When

on the ground, it's obviously worth walking down

the Main Town, the historic part of Gdansk. A stroll

down Długa street and Długi Targ, from Golden Gate

to Green Gate standing at the Motława River is every

tourist's must. And who knows, maybe you'll discover

the Main Town your own way, wandering around the

little alleys?

Stepping down, right next to the old town, you will enter the historic

Gdansk Shipyard. This is where it all began for Poles and the whole

Eastern Europe. We're talking about the Solidarity movement

which led to the collapse of communist system. Next to the historic

Gate no. 2 there is a huge building covered in rust. It's the European

Solidarity Centre, a modern museum and conference centre, a real

must see of today's Gdansk. Learn about the newest history which

constituted identity of both the city and the country and made

Poland part of the Western world.

One of the most charming places in Gdansk, located approximately

12 km from the historic Main Town. Take a walk across Park in

Oliwa and visit the Oliwa Cathedral with spectacular baroque or-

gans. Stroll down the Old Oliwa (especially the Opata Rybickiego

street) and enjoy the beauty of a small villa district which used to

be a separate village. Near the forest there is an observation point

called “Pachołek” – this time you can see Gdansk from a different

angle, together with Sopot and Gdynia. If you travel with kids, then

your must visit is the Oliwa zoo. A tour across Oliwa should defi-

nitely finish at some of the cozy restaurants there.

02Sopot

The longest wooden pier in Europe after summer

season welcomes with less crowds and a little bit

of melancholy. The pier was first built in the 19th

century and rebuilt to today's length in 1928. The

walking part is 511,5 m long, with 458 m com-

ing into the sea. There can't be anything more

healthy than a deep breath of iodine at the end of

the pier. And in the winter you can have fun skat-

ing in the ice ring located in the Curative Square

next to the pier.

The Sopot Lighthouse is cameral and because of its small size, it is

not a lighthouse, but a navigation point in official marine terminol-

ogy. However, it's very picturesque and is opened for visitors. It's

a nice observation point to watch Tricity – this time from Sopot's

point of view.

Seeking culture wherever you go for a trip? Sopot's National Gallery

of Art will satisfy your needs. Exhibitions of Polish and international

contemporary artists on three levels, plus events and conferences.

Opened in September 2015, Gdynia Film Centre is now one

of the biggest lures of the city. It hosts the events of Gdynia

Film Festival, the biggest film event in Poland. On non-fes-

tive days it's a cinema that presents artistic cinematography

and the Gdynia Film School, educating young film makers.

There's a bookshop and a gallery which houses author's

meetings and exhibitions. At GFC's restaurant and cafe you

can discuss the film you've just watched. All this in a mod-

ern building, designed by Gdynia architects. Their work

was awarded at Eurobuild Awards 2015.

If you travel to Tricity by farry, you will be there anyway. But it's worth

looking around this impressive industrial space. It's the place where

world's biggest ships moor. In the historic sea station in significant ul.

Polska 1 (TN: Polish street 1) there is Museum of Emigration, a special

place telling stories of Poles who chose to move to another country, often

another continent. This amazing and often difficult part of Polish history

dates back to 18th century! The place for the museum is not random ei-

ther – it is where the Poles started their journey in the 20s and 30s.

Tricity has several sand beaches, but the one in

Gdynia is special for a few reasons. It's broad,

with an amazing view on Gdynia Marina and it's

in the city centre. Along there's a promenade

with street food stands and cafes, and at the

beach – a lovely playground. In the cold seasons

you can enjoy it from one of the restaurants lo-

cated right at the beach.

Trestadens metropol är en av sitt slag i Polen.

Det finns inget centrum som koncentrerar

inom sig tätorten, städer kommer i linje, en efter

anann. Titta bara på kartan. Vad är viktigt, varje

stad har sin egen karaktär och särdrag.

Gdańsk1. Mariakyrkan torn

Den största tegelkyrka (tredje störst i norra

Europa). Dess imponerande torn på 80 me-

tervär en fantastisk observationspunkt. Det är

definitivt värt att klättra de 409 stegen för att

njuta av utsikten över hela staden. Är du på

marken igen, måste du utan tvekan ta en pro-

menad i Gdańsk historiska stadsdel - Gamla

Stan. Släntra på Długa gata och Długi Targ,

från Gyllene Porten till Gröna Porten tills du

når Motława floden vilket är ett måste. Och

vem vet, kanske kommer du att upptäcka

Gamla Stan på ditt eget sätt med att vandra

runt de små gränderna?

2. European Solidarity Centre

Inom synhåll, strax intill Gamla Stan, kom-

mer du in i Gdansks historiska varv. Det är

här var den hela Solidaritetsrörelsen började

för polacker och hela Östeuropa. Den ledde

till kollapsen av kommunistiska systemet.

Bredvid den historiska Porten nummer 2

hittar du en enorm byggnad täckt av rost.

Det är European Solidarity Centre, ett mo-

dernt museum och konferenscenter som du

måste besöka i dagens verkliga Gdansk. Öka

din kunskap om de senaste händelser som

utgjorde identitet av både staden och landet

samt gjorde Polen en del av västvärlden.

3. OliwaEn av de charmigaste platser i Gdansk ligger

cirka 12 km från historiska Gamla Stan. Ta en

promenad i parken i Oliwa och besöka Oliwas

domkyrka med sin spektakulära barock orgel.

Strosa längs den gamla Oliwa (särskilt Opata

Rybickiego gatan) och njuta av en liten villa

distrikt som brukade vara en separat by. Nära

skogen finns en observationspunkt som heter

"Pachołek" - den här gången kan du se Gdansk

från en annan vinkel, tillsammans med Sopot

och Gdynia. Om du reser med barn, då måste

ni besöka Oliwa Zoo. En tur i Oliwa bör defini-

tivt avslutas på en av mysiga restauranger som

finns i närheten.

Sopot1. Pier i SopotDen längsta träpiren i Europa välkomnar med

mindre antal turister och mindre trängsel

efter sommaren. En liten bit av melankoli

svävar i luften. Piren byggdes först i 1800-talet

och byggdes om till dagens längd i 1928. Hela

bryggan är 511,5 meter lång, varav 458 m kom-

mer ut i havet. Det kan inte finnas något mer

hälsosamt än ett djupt andetag av jod vid pirets

slut. Och när vintern kommer kan du ha det

så roligt med skridskoåkning på rinken vilken

ligger på Kuracyjny Skwer bredvid bryggan.

2. Sopot FyrSopots fyr har mer intimt intryck på grund av

sin liten storle. Allvarligt sagt, det är ingen fyr

utan navigeringspunkt i officiellt sjömans-

språk. Men den är mycket pittoresk ändå och

öppen för besökare. Det är en trevlig obser-

vationspunkt att titta på Trestaden - den här

gången från Sopots synvinkel.

3. National Konstgalleri i SopotSöker du kulturlivet varje gång du reser? Sopot

National Konstgalleri kommer att tillfreds-

ställa dina behov. Utställningar av polska och

internationella konstnärer på tre våningar,

evenemang och konferenser. Hoppa in och se

om det finns något intressant på gång.

Gdynia1. Stadens strand

Trestaden har många sandstränder, men

den som finns i Gdynia är speciell för ett par

anledningar. Den är bred, med en fantastisk

utsikt över Gdynias båthamn och är belägen i

centrum. Strax intill stranden utsträcker sig en

strandpromenad med matstånd och kaféer. På

själva stranden hittar du en rolig lekplats. I den

kalla årstiden kan du också njuta av den och

sedan mysa i en av restauranger som ligger

precis vid stranden.

2. Gdynia Film Centrum

Det öppnades i september 2015 och är nu nu en

av de största frestelser i staden. Den är en arena

för Gdynia Film Festival, störst filmevenemang

i Polen. På vardagen är det en bio som presente-

rar utsökta filmer från högre hyllan samt Gdynia

Filmskola som utbildar unga filmskapare. Det

finns även en bokhandel och ett galleri som rym-

mer författarens möten och utställningar. På res-

taurang och kafée kan du diskutera om filmen

du har sett. Allt detta finns i en modern byggnad,

ritad av Gdynias arkitekter. Deras arbete tilldela-

des priset på Eurobuild Awards 2015.

3. Emigration Museum Om du reser till Trestaden på färjan, kommer

du utan tvekan hit. Men det är värt ändå att

besöka denna imponerande industristadsdel.

Det är en plats var världens största fartyg för-

töjs. På den historiska sjöstationen, vid Polska

gatan 1finns Emigration Museum. Den är en

speciell plats var man kan lyssna på berättlser

och historier om polacker som valde att flytta

till ett annat land, ofta en annan kontinent.

Denna fantastiska och svåra tidsperiod av Po-

lens historia går tillbaka till 1800-talet! Museets

läge är inte slumpmässigt - det är här polacker

började sina resor på 1920- och 30-talet.

Are you going to Tricity and taking your car on

the ferry? Or perhaps you are going to hire

a car to travel through the region? You are

probably going to visit the Castle of the Teutonic Order in

Malbork – the biggest Gothic castle in Europe inscribed

on UNESCO's World Heritage List? That is great, but let

us recommend you something more – revitalised historic

manors and palaces restored to their former glory.

Ciekocinko PalaceLocated 86 km from Gdańsk, in the green land of

Northern Kashubia. The story of the palace is the

story of two families – Ewest and Koops. The estate

dates back to the 14th century, whereas the palace

was built in 1910. After the war, the building shared

the fate of other palaces – it became a seat of PGR

(State Agricultural Farm). In 2004, the palace was

transformed by its new owner, and today, the five-star

Ciekocinko Hotel Resort & Wellness Palace provides

its guests with exceptional and highest-quality services.

Apart from architecture, the palace is worth visiting

because of food. 1906 Gourmet Restaurant will take

you to the world of culinary delight. The palace also has

a rich offer for those who like spending their time in an

Castle in KrokowaSituated 72 km north of Gdańsk, Krokowa near Puck is

a village worth visiting because of its remarkable castle.

Dating back to the times of the Teutonic Order, the

former residence of the von Krockow (vel Krokowscy)

family is the subject of many legends. Like every palace

shrouded in mystery, the Krokowa Castle has its own

White Lady – Luiza von Krockow, who promoted culture

and art in the region.

Today, the restored three-winged palace houses a

cosy hotel and a restaurant. The hotel is worth visiting

especially during low season, when prices are even more

attractive. The palace is open for visitors. In a former inn

located nearby, there is Regional Museum with exhibits

related to the Kashubians, the Germans and the Poles

co-existing in the region for ages.

near Puck, located close to Puszcza Darżlubska forest

complex. It dates back to the 14th century, when the

knight Ścibor from Krostkowo resided in the first palace

Second World War, like many other places of residence

of the aristocracy, the palace faded into oblivion. Only

after the fall of communism, the building was restored.

a town called Salino. Dating back to the 18th century,

the manor is located by the picturesque Salińskie Lake.

Those who like the rustic style will absolutely love it.

Palatset i Ciekocinko

Nio mil från Gdańsk, bland grönska av norra

Historien om denna byggnad är en saga om två

familjer - Ewest och Koops. Ägedomen har fun-

nits sedan 1300-talet, men nuvarande palatset

byggdes i 1910. Efter kriget, delade den vackra

byggnad sitt öde med likadana ställen - det blev

säte för PGR (sv. Statlig jordbruksfarm). I 2004

fick den en ny ägare som har bidragit till en

omfattande metamorfos. Nyligen är palatset

i Ciekocinko ett femstjärnigt Hotel Resort &

Wellness som erbjuder avkopplingen på en

kunglig nivå. Förutom arkitektur, är det också

mat som lockar turister. Restaurang som heter

1906 Gourmet Restaurant kommer att förföra

alla med sin kulinariska finess. Det finns också

gott om aktiviteter för idrottsnjutare - till exem-

pel en häststall.

Slottet i Krokowa

Puck ligger sju mil norr om Gdańsk och är värt

ett besök på grund av ett märkligt slott i Kro-

kowa by. Den har tidigare varit ett bosäte för

aristokratisk familj von Krockow (också känd

som Krokowski) och dess historia går tillbaka

till riddarna och gömmer många spännande

legender. Som varje respekterat och omtyckt

palats har Krokowa sin egen vita dam - Lou-

ise von Krockow. Hon älskade kulturen och

konsten och delade sitt intresse med folk i

området.

Idag har palatset tre återställda vingar och

inrymmer ett mysigt hotell samt Zamkowa

Restaurang. Det är värt att besöka hotellet

framför allt under lågsäsongen när priser är

mer rimliga. Palatset är öppet för besökare.

Och i en närliggande byggnad av före detta

byns gästgiveri hittar ni hembygdsmuseum

med många berättelser om människor som har

bott och fortfarande bor här som grannar - kas-

jubier, tyskar och polacker.

 

Wieniawa Spa & Wellness

En annan historisk byggnad nära Puck, vid

kanten av Darżlubska urskog är Wieniawa

palats i Rekowo. Dess historia går tillbaka till

1300-talet. Då bosätte sig här en riddare, som

hette Ścibor från Krostkowo. Han bodde i det

första palats som byggdes på en liten kulle. Det

andra palatset uppförde man i centrum av byn.

Efter andra världskriget, liksom många andra

aristokratiska säte föll i glömska. Bara efter

kommunismens fall renoverades byggnaden,

vilken idag inrymmer fyrstjärnigt hotell, spa,

pool med bastu och golf resort (15 km bort lig-

ger Sierra Golf Club).

 

Herrgården i Salino

Kör man mot samma riktning, fast lite längre

söderut, når man Salino by. Här finns det inte

längre ett palats, utan en herrgård från 1700-

talet. Den ligger vid en pittoresk Salińskie sjö.

Det är ett förslag för alla som älskar rustik

inredning. På denna turistgård ska du utan

tvekan känna dig som en gammal polsk adels-

man. Du kan hyra hela herrgården och regera

här på ditt eget sätt. I huset med halmtak kan

du använda spiskök, och utomhus väntar grill-

boden. Det går lika bra att bygga en lägereld.

Denna plats passar perfekt för olika evene-

mang med många inbjudna gäster - en familjut-

flykt eller integrationsfest på jobbet.

Pomorskie lives off forests. Centuries

ago people of our region were eating

berries, mushrooms and venison. We

know that primeval settlers of these terrains

were not only fishermen, but also hunters and

gatherers. No wonder – after all regions of

Pomorskie and Pojezierze Kaszubskie are full

of forests, lakes, rivers and ponds. In such nat-

ural surroundings a tradition of cuisine full of

gifts of the forest developed, ones for which we

reach especially during the autumn. This is the

time of making preserves – Polish specialities.

FruitAutumn in Pomorskie is sweet. There are

forest and orchard fruits on our tables, used

for both desserts and refined dishes. An apple

is the undisputed king on all Polish tables and

for generations now housewives are preparing

tasty apple dishes. There are multiple ways of

preparing this fruit – from kompot [TN: Polish

fruit beverage] to jams. In Kaszuby they serve

“ruchanki” with apples – little pancakes, a spe-

ciality of the region. Chefs in Pomorskie region

follow in their grandmothers’ footsteps and

take inspiration from home traditions.

Pear is standing right next to the apple.

Perfect for desserts and salads, as well as

cheeses and garnish for main dishes. Between

September and November quince is also avail-

able. Its sourly taste goes perfectly with meat.

Alongside plum it is an irreplaceable ingredient

of nalewka [TN: a traditional Polish alcoholic

drink, thick and usually very sweet]. Autumn

also means full of vitamin C cranberry. And we

Carrot complements many dishes. Its sweet

taste, often emphasized through caramelization,

will bring out the flavour of meat and vegetarian

dishes. And of course there are also the exquisite

potatoes, served in many different ways.

Mushrooms and porridgeThere would be no autumn cuisine without

them. Between September and November we

have a real mushroom-picking craze in Poland.

And since there are many virgin forests in our

area, cuisine in Pomorskie region is especially

mushroom-oriented. Thick Bory Tucholskie

forests hide riches of groundcover. From there

you get delicate chanterelles, button mush-

rooms and porcinis. And of course the excel-

lent bay bolete. They can all be served fresh,

dried or marinated.

Porridge go perfectly with mushrooms, but

also meat and vegetables. And there are plenty

of them in Poland. Buckwheat, pearl barley,

hulled barley, millet, oats porridge or farina

(the last two are also used in desserts) – are all

VegetablesAt this time of the year root vegetables are

at their peak. These are first and foremost

carrot, beetroot, and, until recently forgotten,

topinambour that has re-established its de-

served positon in the Polish cuisine. The latter

one is also called the “underground pear” and

it has many pro-health qualities. Because of

its high amounts of inulin it is especially rec-

ommended for those suffering from diabetes.

Chefs in Pomorskie region transform this

pro-health plant into a real culinary work of

art. In the Pieterwas' Krew i Woda restaurant

in Gdynia you can get filet mignon with potato

puree, served with truffle paste, coffee butter,

beetroot baked in sea salt and spinach. And

Tomasz Ziółkowski, the chef of Czarny Kos

restaurant, recommends beetroot carpaccio

with orange and sweet chia caviar with mint

tapioca. As you can see, our restaurants can

surprise with unusual combinations.

Pumpkin is another vegetable of the season.

Served like fruit, both in a refined and sweet

version, for example in cakes. It is the undis-

puted queen of autumn cuisine in all of Poland.

cannot forget about bramble. This wild forest

fruit is so low in calories, full of vitamins and

nutrients that it can be included in the so called

super foods. Bramble is used in desserts and

jams, but also goes great with meat. Simply

have a look at the offer of the restaurant in Poraj

Pałac near Łeba, less than 100km west from

Gdańsk. Deer comber marinated in red wine,

spices and white vegetables, with caramelized

beetroot with a dash of cinnamon, fondant

potatoes and grilled pear, served with bramble

sauce. Sounds amazing? Tastes even better.

DrinksEverything with fruit: kompot – specialities of

Polish homes, and warming fruit teas – cran-

berry, bramble, raspberry, wild strawberry.

MeatPolish cuisine is full of meat. A lot of it

is eaten also by the sea, especially since

Pomorskie region has untouched terrains

ideal for animal husbandry. But if we are

speaking about the forest then the main role

is played by venison, a real autumn treat in

restaurants of Pomorskie. Let us have a look

at the Hotel Aubrecht Country Spa Resort’s

restaurant in Przechlewo. Boar jowls confit,

beetroot puree with linseed olive, potato cake

with greaves and caramelized carrot with

peas in buckwheat honey.

Autumn is all about filling beef. The ex-

traordinary duck and geese of our region,

coming from ecological husbandries in

Kaszuby are also worth mentioning. Then we

have the Pomorskie sheeps, ten thousand of

which is bred in the region.

Autumn is also the last moment to taste

freshwater fish, just before their protec-

tion period. In the end, apart from the sea,

Pomorskie region has numerous lakes and

clean rivers, as well as special ecological hus-

bandries.

And if we are speaking about alcohol, for-

ests also have some input. Nalewka, the Polish

fruit vodka, is perfect for autumn and winter.

You can try different flavours – quince, rasp-

berry, bramble, pear… The possibilities are

endless. It is best to try a tasting menu in one of

our restaurants, for example in Metamorfoza or

Gdański Bowke, right in the heart of Gdańsk.

Thanks to forests and glades honey hunting is

doing great in Poland, and so are meads. They

are a beverage known for centuries in Poland,

and Pomorskie region is one of the leaders of

their production.

Edible fruits of autumn appear in

KöttDet polska köket är rikt på kött. Vi äter my-

cket kött även här, nära havet. Pommern är

ju en förorenad area, perfekt för djurhålln-

ing. Talar vi om skogen, spelar viltkött första

fiolen - höstens äkta delikatess på regionens

lokala restauranger. Låt oss titta på en spe-

cialitet på restaurangen vid Hotel Aubrecht

Country Spa Restort i Przechlewo. Det är

vildsvinskinder con fit, rödbetspuré med

linolja, potatiskaka med skwarki (sv. stekt

porkskal) och karamelliserade morötter och

ärtor i boveteshonung.

Hösten vimlar av fyllande nötkött. Anka

och gås från ekologiska gårdar i Kasjubien

förtjänar en särskild uppmärksamhet. Pom-

merns får är också lokal specialitet. Det

finns ungefär 10.000 djur i området.

Hösten är också sista chansen att smaka på

sötvattensfisk som är nu före skyddstiden.

Pommern, bortsett från havet, har många

sjöar och rena flodar, liksom speciella ekolo-

giska odlingar.

Drycker

Frukt i 100%. Det är kompotter - en special-

itet i polska köket samt värmande fruktte

- tranbär, björnbär, hallon, smultron.

Talar man om alkohol, bidar skogar och

fruktträdgårdar lika mycket. Likörer eller

polsk fruktvodka är perfekt för hösten och

vintern. Man kan prova olika smaker - kvit-

ten, hallon, björnbär, päron... Möjligheter är

oändliga. Det är bäst att provsmaka dem i en

av våra restauranger, såsom Metamorfoza

eller Gdański Bowke som ligger i hjärtat av

Gdańsk. Tack vare stora skogar och breda

ängar sysslar vi även med biodling och

därför tillverkar vi mjöd som är en honungs-

baserad jäst dryck. Den är känd i Polen i

århundraden och Pommerns är en av ledare

i dess framställning.

Ätbara höstens gåvor finns här i Pommern

i många kombinationer, i både enkel och

utsökt version. Upptäck dem med glädje i

i rött vin, kryddor och vita grönsaker med

karamelliserade rödbetor och en nypa

kanel, fondant potatis och grillad päron,

serverade med björnbärssås. Låter bra? Det

smakar ännu bättre.

 

Grönsaker

Rotfrukter är mest populära under

denna årstid. Det är i första hand moröt-

ter, rödbetor, eller tills nyligen glömt

jordärtskockor, som har idag återfått sin

rätta plats i polska köket. Den sista är också

känd som "underjordiskt päron" och har

många hälsofrämjande egenskaper. På

grund av högt innehåll av inulin rekommen-

deras den särskilt för diabetiker. Pommerns

kockar förvandlar jordärtskockor till en

riktig kulinarisk mästerverk. Restaurangen

Pieterwas krew i woda kan man äta filet mi-

gnon med potatismos med tryffelpasta, kaffe

smör, rödbetor bakade i havssalt och spenat.

På Czarny Kos däremot rekommenderar

köksmästare Tomasz Ziółkowski carpaccio

på redbetor med apelsin och söt chiafrön

kaviar med mynta och tapioka. Som ni kan

se, kan våra restauranger överraska med

ovanliga kombinationer.

En annan grönsak typisk för hösten är en

pumpa. Den serveras som frukt i både salta

ochsöta rätter, till exempel som bakelser.

Den är en obestridd drottning i höstens

polska kök.

Moroten kompletterar många maträtter.

Dess söta smak som är ofta lyftad fram med

hjälp av karamellisering, förbättrar smaken

av kött- och vegetariska rätter. Och det finns

också läckra potatis, lagade på en mängd

olika sätt.

Svamp och gryn

Utan dem skulle det inte finnas någon höst-

kök. Från september till november pågår i

Polen en riktig svampplockning och vi är helt

galna över detta. Eftersom det finns gott om

urskogar i vårt område, är Pommerns lokala

kök rikt på svampar. Tjocka skogar i Bory

Tucholskie döljer skogens nedre delar och

undervegetations rikedom. Härifrån kom-

mer fina kantareller, karljohansvampar och

champinjoner. De alla kan man äta färska,

torkade eller marinerade.

Olika gryn passar perfekt till svampar,

men även kött och grönsaker. Och de finns

många sorter av de i Polen. Bovete, korn-

gryn, pärlgryn, hirs, havre och manna (de

sista används också i desserter) - alla är

Pomorskie livnär sig på skogen. Redan

århundraden sedan åt man mycket

björnbär, svamp och vilt i denna region. Vi

vet att områdets urgamla bosättare var inte

bara fiskare, utan även jägare och plockare.

Det är inte konstigt eftersom Pommern och

Kasjubien har många tjocka skogar samt

sjöar, floder och dammar. Under sådana

omständigheter, grundades och utvecklades

köket fullt av skogens gåvor som vi letar

efter särskilt på hösten. Då är det dags att

hemlaga konserver - polska specialteter.

Frukt

Pommerns höst smakar söt. På borden

finns då frukt från skogen och frukt-

trädgårdar. De används för både desserter

och salta rätter. Den obestridda kungen

av alla polska borden är ett äpple. Hem-

mafruar förbereder sina läckerheter av

äpplen sedan många år. Det finns olika sätt

att bearbeta denna frukt - från kompotter

till sylt. På Kasjubien stekar man ruchanki

med äpple - små pannkakor som är lokal

specialitet. I fotspåren av mormor och

mammor går Pommerns kockar som letar

sina inspirationer i husets traditionella kök.

Förutom äpplen har ett päron en lika stark

status. Det är perfekt för desserter, men

även sallader, ostar och som sidorätt till

huvudrätter. Från september till novem-

ber finns också kvitten med sin lätta och

syrliga smak som passar perfekt till kött.

Kvitten är en oersättlig ingrediens i likörer,

liksom plommon. Hösten ger oss också

tranbär som är full av C-vitamin. Och sist

men inte minst kan man inte glömma

björnbär. Dessa vilda bär har så lågt kalori

innehåll men är fulla av vitaminer och

näringsämnen att vi kan kalla dem som

super foods. Björnbär används för desserter

och konserver, men är lika bra med köttet.

Long Street – the heart of Gdańsk. And right

restaurant! Here, Chef Rosario la Roca, de-

cided to bring in some of the Italian lifestyle

into these beautiful, but sometimes chilly,

Gdańsk interiors. His specialty is the fonduta,

Italian version of the fondue, also popular in

the North of Italy. During autumn you can also

taste the warming pumpkin soup. Addition-

ally: pastas, gnocchi, meat and fish dishes – all

prepared with original Italian ingredients. An

especially important element is cheese. And

you cannot pass by the homemade tiramisu.

Lunch is served daily, between 12:00 and

15:00, and there is live music each Thursday,

Friday and Saturday.

Perche No in GdyniaIn Gdynia city centre you will find a tiny and

charming restaurant and pizzeria Perche No.

Here Marco Bernardi invites everyone for

extraordinary pizza from a stone oven. There

tiramisu. Lunchen serveras dagligen från 12:00

till 15:00 och varje torsdag, fredag och lördag

blir det ännu mysigare eftersom live musik

spelas på krogen.

FEASTING AT KREW I WODA

Moreover, there are many fresh fishes and sea-

food from the North Sea. Mussels constitute a

separate section in the menu. The restaurant

offers four dishes with mussels and four kinds

of oysters: Fine de Claire, Carskaya, Gillareau

and Belon Perles.

An interesting item in the menu is

Surf’n’Turf – a combination of meat with sea-

food. For example, filet mignon with shrimps

and calamari, served with kopytka, buerre-

blanc sauce, dill and parsley.

Krew i Woda also offers excellent wines.

There have been 106 types of wine from all

over the world so far; from December, the

offer will comprise 140 labels. Efforts of Marta

and Mariusz Pieterwas in this aspect have been

Surf’n’Turf – a combination of meat with sea-

food. For example, filet mignon with shrimps

and calamari, served with kopytka, buerre-

blanc sauce, dill and parsley.

Krew i Woda also offers excellent wines.

There have been 106 types of wine from all

over the world so far; from December, the offer

will comprise 140 labels. Efforts of Marta and

Mariusz Pieterwas in this aspect have been

appreciated by the experts of Wine Spectator

magazine. The restaurant received the “Award

TASTE OF ASIA

The port city of Gdańsk has always

been a cosmopolitan place. This Thai

and Lao restaurant by Motława River

proves that it is still the case. Enjoy authentic

oriental cuisine cooked with passion by na-

tive Thai chefs while sipping a refreshing Thai

lager and relaxing in the restaurant’s garden

on the bank of the river.

The biggest test of Thai restaurants is

always Pad Thai, a global ambassador for the

glories of Thai food. If the chef can make this

dish right, they probably know how to cook.

Although it seems easy to prepare, in reality

it requires a precise balance of all the spices,

careful choice of produce and very good

timing in adding each ingredient. We can

testify that the head chef at Lao Thai, Suryia

Sribunma, has passed the test with an A

grade! His pad thai which you can order with

chicken, tofu or prawns, is utterly delicious.

Other dishes that we tested were equally

good. Moo Ping and Kai Sa-Teh, the pork and

chicken satays in Thai marinade, seemed to

bring all the best flavours from Thai cuisine

onto our plates. The top of the cherry cake

was Mango Pannacotta with raspberry sauce,

an Asian take on this popular Italian dessert.

If you’re around Gdańsk during weekdays,

try to visit the restaurant for lunch – its spe-

cial lunch menu offers good choice of starters

and main courses and is very good value for

money (29 pln for a two-course set menu).

pends on the guest’s individual taste. So how

did the sushi master know I love sweet hints

in my food? I didn't even say it. It turns out

it takes a natural psychologist to be a good

sushi master.

Dom Sushi in Gdańsk is placed beautifully

by Motława River in the historic part of the

city, next to the Fish Market. You can delight

in the view of the river, sitting in the garden

or enjoy the warm home-like atmosphere of

the 'sushi river' bar inside. On the other hand,

Dom Sushi in Sopot is located at the very up-

beat Monte Cassino Street, which is definitely

a place to be for all fun lovers. You will be

pleased to sit there at the longest sushi river

in Poland. Add a friendly staff and you'll have

it all in one place.

That's right, you don't have to take

weird substances to take a journey.

At Dom Sushi (translated „House of

Sushi”) they will take you high on their food.

No matter if you are a sushi connoisseur or an

absolute novice, your visit at Dom Sushi will

be an enriching experience.

There are six types of plates on which

sushi is served and you can distinguish them

by colour. Each colour represents a different

„level of initiation” (and a different price,

too). The last plate, silver, is a special treat

from the sushi master. I had a „Flaming

Dragon”, indeed an exceptional feast. A set of

uramaki with tempura prawns, topped with

Japanese eel and sugar was lit just before

serving, hence the name of flaming Dragon.

former av sushi finns i olika varianter, allt

beror på gästens individuella smak. Så hur gick

det att sushi mästare visste att jag älskar söt

smak i min mat? Jag sa ingenting. Det visar sig

att det tar en riktig psykolog att bli en duktig

sushi mästare en gång.

Dom Sushi i Gdańsk ligger vid vacker

Motława flod i en historisk del av staden,

bredvid Targ Rybny (sv. fiskmarknaden). Du

kan sitta i trädgården och njuta av utsikten

över floden eller mysa inne tack vare varm

och hemtrevlig stämning bredvid "sushi river

bar". Å andra sidan, ligger Dom Sushi i Sopot

på en mycket energisk Monte Cassino gata

vilken definitivt är ett måste att besöka och

vara för alla livsnjutare. Du kommer säkertvis

att vara glad över att sitta här vid den längsta

From the very beginning, Szafarnia

10 has been a restaurant, where food

lovers from Poland and other coun-

tries may enjoy the most delicious Polish

and Pomorskie dishes prepared in a modern

way. Located near the yacht harbour on the

Motława river, with a view of the historic part

of the city, the place is absolutely unique.

Minimalist, elegant and unpretentious interi-

ors make guests feel snug and comfortable.

The chef Grzegorz Labuda is renowned in

the region for dishes with a regional flavour,

which he composes anew, creating real works

of art from recipes handed down from one

generation to another and high-quality ingre-

dients. For the autumn/winter 2016/2017

season, benefiting from the Pomorskie region

resources, Szafarnia 10 offers a wide range of

fish dishes, both with freshwater and saltwater

fishes. One of the most recommended dishes

is Baltic cod tatar with cod liver, compressed

cucumber and charlock sauce. The starter

Polish specialties – sour cabbage, mushrooms

or winter vegetables like sunroot.

On the menu of Szafarnia 10, there are also

offal dishes. During the Gault & Millau gala,

where the best chefs of the Northern Poland

were awarded, the host prepared live his sig-

nature dish – duck tongues and blood sausage

with white buckwheat, apple puree, poultry

hearts and duck sauce. Owing to such dishes as

well as exquisite game and the menu modified

depending on the season, Grzegorz Labuda

was granted the title of the Traditional Cuisine

Chef. It's not the first time when the restaurant

is appreciated for promoting regional and sea-

sonal products from local suppliers.

Szafarnia 10 also introduces special offers.

On Thursdays, guests receive an extra menu

with three Kashubian dishes. On Friday eve-

nings, the special dish is roasted lamb with Pol-

ish nalewka (sweet fruit flavour vodka). Two

special degustation dinners are organised for

Polish cuisine lovers. On January 27th, 2017

the motif will be "Polish goose", which tastes

the best in winter, and on March 24th, 2017 -

equally promising "Polish fish". On Thursdays

and Fridays, guest may enjoy live music as mu-

sicians perform covers of the greatest hits.

Från början har restaurangen Szafarnia 10

blivit känd åt både polska samt utländska

finsmakare som en plats där man kan smaka

bästa polska och pommerska köket med en

modern twist. Vackert läge vid småbåtsham-

nen vid floden Motława, med utsikt över den

historiska delen av staden bidrar till restau-

rangens unikhet samt förhöjer kulinariska

upplevelser. Därtill gör restaurangens ele-

ganta och opretentiösa inredning att besöka-

ren kan känna sig behagligt bortskämd.

Restaurangens köksmästare, Grzegorz

Labuda, är känd i regionen för sina hem-

trevliga smaker. Han komponerar dem ånyo

och därmed omvandlar recept som har gått

från generation till generation samt uppskat-

tade ingredienser till riktiga konstverk. För

2016/17 höst-vintersäsongen har han förbe-

rett för Szafarnia 10 ett brett urval fiskrätter,

av både havs- och insjöfisk, som det anstår

Pomorski regionen med dess fiskrikedom. En

av de starkaste poängen på menyn är Öster-

sjötorsktartar med torsklever, komprimerad

gurka och senapssås. Den förrätten valdes

som en av de 9 mest representativa lokala

maträtterna inom projektet ”Smaki Gdańska”

(Smaker av Gdansk). Under den säsongen

ackompanjeras fisk av polska specialiteter –

surkål, skogssvampar eller vintergrönsaker

sådana som exempelvis kronärtskockor.

Köket i Szafarnia 10 omfattar också inälvs-

mat. Under Gault & Millau-galan, där bästa

köksmästare i norra Polen hedrades, anrät-

tade dess värd sitt paradnummer i realtid –

anktungor och blodkorv med vit bovetegröt,

äppelpuré, hönshjärtan och anksås. Tack

vare maträtter som den, men också tack vare

förträffligt viltkött och menyn som alltid är

anpassad till säsongen, har Grzegorz Labuda

erhållits titeln av Traditionell Köksmästare.

Detta är inte fösta gången när restaurangen

har blivit uppskattad för befrämjande av

lokala och säsongsmatvaror från regionala

leverantörer.

Szafarnia 10 berikar regelbundet sitt

erbjudande. Varje torsdag erbjuder restau-

rangen en extra meny med tre maträtter från

kasjubiska köket. Fredagar innebär kvällar

med lamm som rostas i helhet och ackom-

panjeras av förträffliga likörer. Det finns även

provsmakningsmiddagar för entusiaster av

polska köket. Den 27 januari 2017 hålls en

provsmakningsmiddag under temat "polskt

gåskött" som smakar bäst i höst och den 24

mars 2017 bjuder restaurangen till likaså

lovande "polsk fisk" middagen. Varje torsdag

och fredag underhålls gästerna av musikanter

som spelar levande covermusik.

Under höst och vinter är det trevligt att be-

söka Szafarnia 10 när som helst under dagen.

som brygger flera olika typer av fint öl från grun-

den och enligt recept utvalda av enastående

bryggare. Vi har skapat en underbar plats, där

vi förenar ölproduktion med traditionell polsk

mat, där vi lägger särskild tonvikt vid rätter från

Kasjubien. Vi säljer även vårt öl på flaskor.

Till öl bör man äta något. På menyn hittar

gästerna det bästa från det polska köket, det

godaste man kan tänka sig till en sejdel kallt öl.

I bryggeriet kan du smaka ostar av egen pro-

duktion, ungsbakat kött, patéer med tranbär,

och även bl. a. korv som vi producerat själva,

fisk- eller vilträtter, mycket goda kotletter och

nötköttsbiffar, omtyckta fläsklägg i öl och gäss i

ugn, vilket uppskattas av finsmakare gäss. Detta

A combination of historic structure of the

building, unchanged from the outside, and

the interior completely transformed is a sur-

prise for everybody. Eclectic interiors, pre-

served original architectural substance and

designer solutions create an extraordinary

space for culture and make a great tourist

attraction of the city.

In Olejarna Street in Gdańsk, hidden

among the other houses, there is a build-

ing, an inconspicuous giant… Awaken

not to protect people from the world, but to

open itself for people and for the world; to in-

tegrate those who, despite all divides, want to

immerse themselves in the olden days as well

as look ahead, contemplate high art and enjoy

dancing, singing and alcohol.

On 21 June 2013, the first day of summer,

BUNKIER Club and Gallery opened the door

wide. Since then, it has become a special

place in Tricity, where artists exhibit their

works. It has housed exhibitions of paintings,

photographs and graphics. It has been rever-

berating with music: concerts, jam sessions

and club parties at the weekend.

Det finns en byggnad i denna stad som är

21 juni 2013 var sommarens första dag

och det var då när Bunkier klubb och galleri

öppnade sina dörrar. Det blev en unik plats på

Trestadens karta var konstnärer kan visa upp

sina verk. På detta sätt kan måleri, fotografi

och grafik gästas i utställningssalar. Scenen

sjöd med musik liv: konserter, jam sessions

och klubbevenemang på helger.

Bunkier är fem våningar av kultur och un-

derhållning, två barer, två salar ägnade åt kon-

serter och fester, ett galleri med möjlighet att

köpa utställda verk och en pub, var filosofiska

samtal ackoompanjeras av god mat.

Denna kombination av historisk och oför-

ändrat byggnadens utsida med omvandlad

interiör överraskar alla. Eklektisk inredning,

bevarat ursprunglig arkitektut och fängslande

designlösningar skapar en unik area för kultur

och utgör stadens återvunna turistattraktion.
