Free – £1.50

Magazines that are free or quite a low price usually do not have a lot of content inside. They usually have a small amount of pages. A lot of free magazines such as “Buzz” come free with other high end magazines or newspapers. The price is often displayed on the cover in a big typeface, usually within a pug to display how cheap the magazine is, this is done to attract the audience’s attention. No additional content such as posters or stickers for example come with these magazines as they are free and they can be usually be found on stands outside shops. However “The Big Issue” is usually handed out to you on the street.

£1.50 - £3.50

Magazines with higher prices usually result in better content included. For example magazines such as OK! and Hello! are very well known magazines because they usually get a lot of celebrity exclusives. Therefore the price is higher and they often give additional content away free with the magazine in order to attract a wider audience. For example extra magazines (like mentioned before, possibly a TV guide or a poster). Also the price is printed in a very small typeface in order to hide it. This helps them sell for their content and not their price as it is quite high and making this stand out on the cover could lose them potential buyers. Also these magazines are likely to be printed on better paper as opposed to a free or cheaper magazine. These can usually be found at a local newsagents and leading supermarkets.

The more expensive magazines have many more pages and more content. They also include more exclusive content such as interviews which are also advertised on the cover to attract attention. Like the last slide, they also hide their price on the cover by displaying it in a very small typeface on the cover in order to prevent the loss of potential customers. These magazines could be harder to get as they’re more likely to be sold in special shops relating to that magazine, for example “Guitar World” is probably more likely to be sold in a music/guitar shop as smaller shops would not sell a wide range of higher priced magazines. These magazines sometimes offer additional content to help increase sales, such as headphones, cd’s or even make-up items deoending on what sort of magazine it is.
