At one point or another most of us will suffer periods where we cannot get to sleep, no doubt you will have tried and tested tips for such times

like taking a hot bath, camomile tea, keeping a room cool, keeping a room dark, having a break from TV and electronics before bedtime etc.

But sometimes these things may not be enough, and you will experience a bout of insomnia. Well the next time this happens, it may be worthwhile taking a different approach to your diet – to see if what you eat and drink can impact how you sleep…

Warm Milk – This one you probably know, but a lot of people do not like the thought of warm milk, but the same effect can be achieved by consuming other dairy products. It is actually the calcium present that helps make melatonin which is a hormone that makes you feel sleepy. You can get the same benefit by consuming dark green leafy veg like kale or spinach, so it is worth having this with your evening meal to start the wind-down process.

Porridge – You might think of porridge as only a breakfast item, but consuming oats as a bedtime snack could work, just like above oatmeal contains melatonin but also eating oats raises your blood insulin level which helps get you into a tired state.

Almonds, Pistachio or Walnuts – Almonds contain magnesium which helps us to stay asleep,

TestimonialHi Fran, thank you very very much for your reading; you really are an inspirational lady. Everything you told

me was spot on and I am really looking forward to my future. I felt happy and relaxed after speaking with you, you are kind and warm-hearted. I will ring you again, blessings xx.

Sue

For the last twenty-five years Fran has been involved with the running of a local Spiritualist churchpistachios contain B6, which helps in the process of

making melatonin and serotonin which we can see above is essential to feeling sleepy. Walnuts have a sleep-inducing quality as they contain an amino acid called tryptophan.

Carbohydrates – carbs that are consumed within four hours of you going to sleep are likely to assist you in feeling tired, but Jasmine rice is particularly good as it has a high glycaemic rating.

Fruit – Kiwifruit is known to create a more restful sleep – falling asleep and waking should also be easier. Cherries also help to create restfulness and are rich in melatonin. Bananas have both B6 and magnesium giving you combined benefits as detailed above.

Honey – There is a hormone called ‘acid orexin’ which prevents the body from becoming tired. Consuming honey actually sends a signal to your body to stop production of this hormone.

Teas – As mentioned above camomile tea is fairly well known as a sleep aid, but you could also try passion fruit, lavender or spearmint, all of which act on the nervous system to tell your body you are sleepy. You could also try brewing two herbs together – Valerian and Lemon Balm, these are known to reduce sleep problems and are often the ingredients found in herbal sleep remedies.

Here’s to a happy slumber…

The summer solstice takes place on Wednesday 21st June and will mark the longest day – the high solar point of 2017. In times gone by fires would have been lit on hill tops to mark the highest

point of the sun. For Druids the occasion is still special and will be considered a ritualistic time symbolising power, success and health. There are special incenses and herbs associated with this time of year – St John’s Wort, Elder, Fennel, Verbena, Chamomile and lavender. You can mark the occasion at home by lighting candles in orange or gold colours representing confidence and joy.

Half way point

Father’s Day takes place this year on Sunday the 18th June, you may know that it always falls on the third Sunday of the month, but you might not know why… One school of thought about how Father’s Day came into existence is about a woman called Sonara Smart who was listening to a Mother’s Day sermon. Her Father who was called William Smart was a widower, he had 6 children and unfortunately his wife had died during the birth of the sixth child. As Sonara went from child to adult she realised just how difficult things had been for

her father raising six children alone and wanted to recognise the selflessness and courage he had shown. Her father was born on the 19th June, and so she celebrated the first Father’s Date in 1910. The idea spread and by 1924 President Calvin Coolidge had made it a national day. By 1926 in New York a Father’s Day committee had been formed. It took until 1956 for a joint resolution to recognise the day in congress and then in 1966 President Lyndon signed a presidential proclamation making the 3rd Sunday of June as Father’s Day. This date was cemented by President Nixon who signed a law that made it permanent in 1972 and the date has stayed that way ever since.

The Law of Attraction first emerged hundreds of years ago when ‘what you have become is what you have thought’ was taught to man

through Buddha. Along with this concept, the term ‘Karma’ became world-known and it is a belief system many still use to this day.

Through time, it has become a common understanding that you are rewarded by what you give to the world and others. Whether this is love, hate, anger, happiness and so on. You will ultimately bring positivity or negativity into your life through your actions.

Instead of staying blind to the brilliant possibilities you have locked deep inside, why not use the Law of Attraction to bring happiness and start creating the future you want? Read on to find out how…

How to use the Law of Attraction:Quite simply, the Law of Attraction gives us the ability to attract and bring certain situations into our life. What age we are, our religious beliefs or our nationality are

not relevant, we are all susceptible to the Law of Attraction.

Sometimes we can unknowingly bury our thoughts and emotions deep inside of us, which can lead us to send out negative vibrations into the world.

Once you learn to master these emotions and discover the power the Law of Attraction can bring, it is time to apply these new thoughts into your everyday life…

Negative thoughts:One of the most difficult parts of the Law of Attraction is accepting and acknowledging your past and learning that everything you have gone through has been shaped for you. This is hard to digest, especially if you feel that you, your family or loved ones have had to handle more than the average person.

Instead of continuing life with a negative mind-set, it is time to detach yourself from these thoughts and start setting yourself goals and embracing positive thoughts. By understanding the logic around the Law of Attraction, you can

now start to free yourself from the worry and fear that has held you back.

Anything you can imagine or hope for can be achieved through the Law of Attraction, if you take action and create plans to get you where you want to be.

It is key to remember that you are the person in control of your future and ultimately in control of how your life will pan out. There are no catches with the Law of Attraction, if you can imagine and see yourself doing something, it is achievable.

Start by opening your mind and set yourself goals to work towards daily and aim to turn negative thoughts into positive ones.

If you are ready to take control of your life, but are unsure where to begin and how to get to where you want to go, our readers specialise in life choices and they can assist in bringing light to certain situations and explore the possibilities that could otherwise remain hidden. Get in touch today and start building the life you have dreamed of!

Many of us will t h i n k about

‘Whitsun’ as a school holiday and the chance to soak up some sun either here or abroad, consequently for many of us it will also mean traffic jams and questions of “Are we there yet?” In fact the spring bank holiday Monday actually marked the Monday after Pentecost. It is Pentecost that was also known as Whitsun; it marks the Christian occasion of the Holy Spirit coming to the disciples following the death of Jesus. Originally the bank holiday was moveable in line with Easter but from 1978 it was set as the last Monday in May (29th).

Jolie recently, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin who also tried to have an amicable parting and Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise going back awhile to name a few… By taking a friendly approach to their break up Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have managed to calm the media speculation and gain respect of their fans and other celebrities.

In her statement, Katy Perry wanted the world to know that you can part ways, feel sad and hurt but instead of lashing out, take a more mature approach to the situation.

When a relationship ends, it can be difficult to stay positive and look forward, especially if it was a bad break up – however this doesn’t mean to say that you should be destructive and continue to hurt the other person. Often the end of a relationship can be used as an opportunity to grow, learn and move forward civilly but in different directions.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck appear to have travelled a similar path, by continuing to live together and go through counselling providing some stability for their children as they processed the details of their eventual separation and divorce.

There’s no evidence that this will work for everyone, and not every break up will end as amicably as Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s,

fter over a year of dating, pop star Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom officially confirmed their split in March. In a joint

statement released by their reps, the couple stated: “Before rumours or falsifications get out of hand, we can confirm that Orlando and

Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time.”

After much speculation about why the couple split and who was to blame, Katy Perry eventually took to Twitter to voice her frustration, stating…

“HOW BOUT A NEW WAY OF THINKING FOR 2017!?,” she wrote. “U can still b friends & love ur former partners! No one’s a victim or a villain, get a life y’all!”

A new way of thinking…We live in a world where it can be easier to gain closure from a break-up by cutting an ex out of your life. Whether this is by deleting their number, blocking them on social media or just ignoring them completely; this is a path many choose to take.

However, some couples are choosing to put the pain aside and take the civil approach – no matter how hard it may be…

Maintaining a relationship in the spotlight is difficult, and we’ve seen many celebrities part ways including Brad Pitt and Angelina

but this refreshing perspective can teach us to take a more positive approach, learn from the past and take some time out to concentrate on ourselves.

By taking this approach, Katy Perry has already proven she is embracing her new freedom and ready for her next journey in life! You may have noticed the pop star sporting a dramatic new hairstyle, and is now releasing new music and appears to be more of a free spirit.

In fact Katy will play Glastonbury for the first time in 2017 which is taking place between the 21st and 25th June and is so say already preparing for the British weather and the inevitable mud! According to her social media accounts she thinks catching a cold is a possibility and is looking forward to the prospect of crumpets and tea! She will share the stage with Ed Sheeran, Radio Head and Foo Fighters to name a few.

If you are feeling trapped in a break up, unable to move forward or express your emotions, it can be helpful to talk to somebody to assist you in gaining closure. Best Mediums readers are able to bring light to any situation you are going through.

Why not get in touch today and take advantage of our summer offer to let a medium bring comfort, clarity and insight to your current situation.

You may be used to contacting angels for help, but you may not be as familiar with the concept of master spirits, they are generally great teachers, prophets or Gods and goddesses and sometimes we refer to them as ‘ascended masters’.

Master spirits cross religion, civilisation and culture, they dedicate themselves to assisting humans on Earth to progress through life whilst learning as they go. Master souls will have made a choice to forgo their own path of journeying to the higher realms of heaven in order to be close and guide us.

When you want to invoke the guidance of a master spirit you must do so with a pure heart and intentions of the good of all - your request should never harm another. When you have your request, just choose wish ascended master to contact.

Master spirits like angels tend to have a specialist area, so it is worth thinking about which master soul to contact that will be most in tune with your request. Here are a few to consider:

Call upon Buddha when you need peace, balance and a sense of calm. He in turn will teach you moderation, releasing desires and being free of suffering.

Kuan Yin is a Buddhist goddess; she is a fantastic place to start for anyone new to invoking the help of a master spirit as she promises to assist anyone who calls. She stands for compassion – for others and ourselves.

Master Spirits

You are more likely to have heard of the Celtic goddess Brigit, her name has different spellings, but her mission is the same – call on her with anything to do with conception and the birth of a child.

Ganesha is a Hindu God, most beloved due to his sweet nature. If you need to overcome obstacles in your life or are thinking about a new venture then this is who you should call upon.

Maitreya’s name translates as ‘loving kindness’, he is known as ‘Buddha of the Future’. You would probably recognise him as a ‘laughing Buddha’, representing happiness and joy.

When your problems relate to your home or your family call upon Vesta, she is sometimes known as Hestia in Greek, but essentially it is the name for goddess of the hearth.

A symbol of an owl represents Athene, a Greek goddess who can provide you with clarity when you have a decision to make; you can be sure of an objective view point.

If relationship difficulties are what trouble you then Lakshmi can guide, she is the epitome of the ‘perfect wife’, she can help heal your relationship as well as increase your sense of fulfilment in life.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but merely a place to start… If you are interested in a reading where the psychic calls upon the ascended masters then why not try: Angel (PIN: 1441) or Ellie (PIN: 1180)

Ref: The Psychic’s Bible, Jane Struthers

10 | www.bestmediums.co.uk

Ellie is a clairaudient, clairsentient and spiritual medium and comes from a Turkish gypsy background with psychic abilities since childhood. Ellie has been offering readings as a professional spiritual psychic for eighteen years.

When clients have a reading with Ellie, they often sense the spiritual energy flowing. She has the ability to tune into the soul of a person and see the questions that need answering without that person having to say a word. Equally she has the ability to tune into anybody you are thinking about and tell you what that person is thinking and the purpose of their life too.

Ellie’s medium abilities enable her to open the doors of the gateway and communicate with loved ones who have passed over, she talks to elders about the purpose of life and what lessons you are expected to learn on your own journey, and she asks for assistance from angels for healing and good fortune.

As a dream interpreter Ellie’s interpretations are much more in-depth than the dream oracle. She can also assist with past life regression and read your aura colours to look into your destiny and say so much about your future. Ellie hopes you will leave the reading feeling uplifted and enlightened and much surer of your pathway.

TestimonialI would like to say a huge thank you to Ellie, whom I have regular readings with. She makes me feel so

uplifted, full of hope, and happy to move on into the future, and to feel really confident about myself. Thank you Ellie, you are a very special person, with a wonderful gift.

Colour is capable of impacting our mood, affecting our behaviour and altering our thinking both on an unconscious and conscious level. From choosing the colour you paint your walls, to what colour fabrics you choose to dress in, to the colour of your dinnerware can either enhance your life in a positive way or have a negative impact on your emotions and how you perceive an environment.

On a day to day basis we probably don’t give colour much thought, but the reality is that we are surrounded by it. So why not make it work for you?

RedYou are probably already familiar

with the emotions associated with ‘red’: love, passion, lust, rage and anger to name a

few. But it is also a dynamic colour that can be energising and stimulating. It might be seen as bold,

but also warm and safe. It is especially helpful when it comes to asserting oneself. Interestingly children are

very attracted to the colour red – picking red toys over other colours, but when they are placed in a red painted environment it has a habit of making them irritable and agitated. This is a lesson for our own décor, a certain amount of red will invite a cosy feel especially in a

lounge – a throwback to Victoria times when plush red colours were seen as very grand,

but too much of the colour and we are likely to feel unsettled.

BlueBlue is an expansive colour that we

associate with the sea and the sky, largely speaking it has a calming effect and is known as a healing colour and one of intellect. Blue is

highly revered in both fashion and in décor. Denim of course has played a large part in this covering every shade from faded blue/white to dark indigo. Dark blue

is often associated with authority and efficiency, perhaps in part as it is used as a choice for many service/

military uniforms like police offers or pilots etc. Of course blue does have a negative connotation as recognised in the saying ‘the blues’, but for most

of us on an unconscious level blue will instil logical thought when we are stressed

and is self-centring.

PurplePurple is the colour of

royalty! It has also long been associated with spirituality and

religion. Red and Blue are opposites of each other on the colour spectrum

and in terms of the emotions they bring out, but when they are

combined they promote peace, high self-esteem and

emotional calm.

GreyGrey is a very neutral

colour, we might associate it with sadness, bad weather and

indecision (it’s not black and white – there are only shades of grey…),

but it can also be a colour that denotes wisdom and

intellect.

WhiteWhite literally is the

opposite of black, in décor it represents sleekness and clean lines; in life it demonstrates purity

and is an aspirational colour. It is seen as pure as it is totally reflective. It can

be a harsh or demanding colour – be it in décor or in clothing, but generally speaking in Western society there

are no real negatives to any hue of white.

Colour Psychology

PinkThe colour pink tends to be

considered feminine; it is a much softer gentler version of red. There are several

sayings that suggest pink is a positive colour: ‘in the pink’ or ‘life is rosy’. Once upon a time pink

would have been considered a sexy colour and was associated with skin tone, but nowadays it is more

likely to invoke a parenting instinct. Pink is a popular colour for both adult bedrooms as well as little girl’s

rooms. It is a good idea when using the colour for this purpose to balance with some blue

or green, this should leave you feeling both physically relaxed as well as

refreshed upon waking.

YellowWhen we think about yellow,

we immediately think of the sun. Of all colours the golden shade has the highest

reflectivity. It is a bright, bold and extraverted colour. We associate the colour with nature; it

highlights the colour of both spring and autumn. It is an optimistic shade and creativity blossoms under

it. It suggests attractiveness and so is again used in fashion – think platinum blonde hair! It can always be relied upon to brighten a space, but it is a highly stimulating colour and so those

using it should be prepared for the fact it will bring out emotions –

both good and bad.

GreenWith the colour green there is the

possibility of mixed messages, on the one hand it is tied to negative emotions like envy,

greed and jealousy, but on the other hand it is seen as a balancing natural colour that invokes positive

mental energy. No retina adjustment is needed to see the colour green so it is a completely restful colour for the eyes. It is a colour associated with nature and the

environment and there are positive connotations in ‘being green’. In time gone by green was seen as a poisonous colour, but today much of our great nutrition is derived

from leafy green foods. On a psychological level humans are programmed to react in two ways

to the colour – to both embrace it and to retract from it, so when using the

colour the shade should be selected with care.

OrangeOrange is a funny colour – it

is closely associated with red and yellow and yet has none of the impact

of either shade. It is a bright colour and is considered to be uplifting and cheerful; it is

also associated with warmth, shelter, comfort and security. It is good to use a very pure version of the colour that will provide a

sensual and rich look, as opposed to a more muddy shade that can feel

cheap and irritating.

BrownThe colour brown is

associated with the Earth it is a very grounding, strong and practical colour. Our houses are very often made with

brown bricks giving it close associations to shelter and comfort. Whilst it can

sometimes be painted as a muddy colour of melancholy, it is also associated with

luxury items like metallic paints, copper, chocolate and coffee.

BlackBlack is largely seen as a negative

colour – black magic, death, funerals, darkness, and bad moods and so on. But on the other hand black is a psychically

protective colour, it is widely used by fashion and in lifestyle – décor, car choices and in these terms often represents luxury and high end. Black is an absorber of light and

so does need to be used carefully, but really the colour perceived is mainly dependent on the aspect of life it

is viewed from.

Mars moves into your love sky on the 4th followed by the Sun and Mercury on the 21st. You’ve a five star love period just now, your social magnetism is amazing and you attract rich and successful kinds of people. You’ll surely have that loving feeling on the New Super Moon on the 24th.

AQUARIUS Water-bearers are still in the midst of an annual pleasure period – it’s a time to enjoy life and love and do fun things together. As the Sun (love) is in Gemini until the 21st – happy talk – good communication and like-mindedness are on the agenda. It’s time to cultivate the social graces. Good connections can be found at school functions, lectures and seminars, some of which can be turned into valued friendships. Refresh the heart and breathe in the clean country air.

PISCES The Sun your health planet is shining happily in your home and family sky, until the 21st. This highlights emotional wellness – good health these days means good emotional health. If you have any health issues the culprit may be found in family relationships, so try to restore harmony in the home ASAP. Pisces begins a pleasure period on the 21st when the Sun moves over to your fun and creativity sky. Accept invitations – you earn money as you’re having fun.
