Dear Business Friends,
Dear Colleagues,
The powerful and deadly hurricanes, which hit
Florida recently, created difficult circumstances for
our customers, but also for our own facility in Palm
Beach, our employees, their families and friends.
Hurricane Frances and Jeanne, made landfall just
north of Palm Beach, leaving a devastating path.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities among our customers
nor employees, but the damage caused to private
homes and our Palm Beach FBO was severe. As you
can imagine, after every catastrophe comes a certain
state of shock, yet it was amazing and impressive to
see how our employees were able to make the
Palm Beach facility fully-operational within
only a few days after each hurricane struck.
Even though damage will be visible for
some months, the good news is that
we are open for business without
restrictions, and we are able to provide
you with a complete range of FBO,
maintenance, avionics and refurbishment
services. My thanks go out to you, our
customers who supported us through these
challenging times and to our employees for their
commitment and strength in making our location
operational again despite the extreme circumstances.
In my last editorial, I wrote about Global Perspective
and Jet Aviation’s role in providing premier aviation
services around the world. Nevertheless, regional
focus remains high in priority, and this is crucial for
taking care of our local customer base as well as an
ever-growing range of clients who are increasingly
flying internationally. To fulfill this mission, we are
expanding our presence in the Middle East, which
continues to be an evolving market with tremendous
growth opportunities in the future.
Our history in the Middle East dates back to 1979
when we first established a partnership in the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to provide FBO services in
both Jeddah and Riyadh. Today, construction is well
underway for our new Jet Aviation maintenance and
FBO facility, which will open at beginning of next
year in the United Arab Emirates at Dubai
International Airport. In the spring of 2005, a fourth
Jet Aviation FBO facility, built in cooperation with a
local joint venture partner, will follow in Kuwait.
We have also been approached regarding a joint
venture partnership in Russia to offer FBO services,
hangars, maintenance, charter and aircraft manage-
ment services at Vnukovo Airport, the nearest
business aviation airport serving Moscow.
These new, strategically located FBOs and facilities
will bring us closer to an important local customer
base that can be assured of the same high standards,
quality and service for which Jet Aviation is
known around the world. Equally important for our
international clients doing business at these
destinations, you can count on us as a friendly
and familiar partner that understands the
region and the culture and can support
all your needs at all times.
Sincerely yours,
Heinz KöhliChief Executive Officer
While the latest corporate jet aircraft are more
reliable than ever before, things do breakdown
on occasion, and whether it’s an engine, airframe
or avionics problem, frustration levels can soar
when an important flight is delayed. To
assist pilots, flight operations managers and
aircraft owners during these inconvenient AOG
(aircraft-on-ground) situations, Jet Aviation
developed JetResponse™, which provides 24/7/365
maintenance “rescue” service in the U.S. when
untimely incidents take place.
This program offers a quick response and peace
of mind during any maintenance emergency. It
takes advantage of Jet Aviation’s global technical
expertise in aircraft ranging from small cabin jets
to Gulfstream Vs.
With JetResponse™, help is only a phone call away
anywhere across the nation. By calling toll-free
to +1 877 JET HELP a JetResponse™ technician will
analyze the problem and dispatch a highly skilled
maintenance team specially trained in avionics,
airframe or power plant issues as well as spare parts
and state-of-the-art diagnostic, communications
and repair tools. By providing help and
expertise when and where it is needed most,
the new service underscores Jet Aviation’s
commitment to customers in the business
aviation community.

GETTING AIRBORNE IS JUST ONE PHONE CALLAWAY WITH JetResponse™
Since becoming a Raytheon
Aircraft Authorized Service
Center for the King Air
series in 1997, Jet Aviation
Zurich has built up a solid
customer base. Over the
years, the company has
maintained well over
twenty King Airs and was
recently chosen to do an extensive avionics upgrade
and maintenance on a King Air 350.
Zurich’s maintenance crew had to completely
remove the interior before the aircraft could be
inspected and the necessary avionics upgrade be
performed. A TCAS system with two directional
antennas was installed and the aircraft’s instrument
panel completely removed to replace aging instruments
with new digital display units. The transponder
system received two diversity antennas and the
cabin pressure was tested according to manufacturer
requirements. The ELT system was not installed
within the pressurized hull, but in the aft of the
aircraft where most of the emergency systems
are located.
In all, 1,000
hours of scheduled
maintenance were
conducted on the
King Air 350,
which also included
the overhaul of the
undercarriage and
wheels, the replacement of the nose wheel, as well as
the engine’s overspeed and propeller governors.

Service at the speed of sound
— that’s one way to describe a
recent project in which a Learjet
31A underwent a complete
interior refurbishment, five
avionic upgrades and a 12-year
inspection in record time. The
aircraft arrived at Jet Aviation Basel to meet a delivery
deadline of nine weeks for a job that normally takes more
than 12 weeks. At the top of the "to-do list", Jet Aviation
was able to facilitate a registration transfer from the
original owner in the U.S. to the new owner in Europe.
“The challenge was to perform all of the upgrades and
system changes within the delivery time frame,” said
Rainer Albecker, senior vice president and general
manager. “We needed expeditious service from all
vendors and suppliers on the project and all hands on
deck from several departments within our facility.”
The 12-year inspection required the removal of the
complete cockpit and cabin interior, including
soundproofing just to accomplish x-ray inspections.
The aircraft’s interior was also completely stripped,
and Schmidt leather was chosen to recover the sidewalls.
At the same time, the right hand engine was removed
to perform the MPI inspection. Several heavy fuel leaks
on the wings needed repair and in addition the
air conditioning system
was modified from the
Freon type R12 to
R134A to conform to
environmental laws.
Avionic upgrades —
most of which were
required to meet European compliance mandates —
included a Honeywell EGPWS, which demanded
extensive rewiring, an FMS and GPS sensor set-up, an
ELT installation, a new DFDR, ACAS II, two upper
transponder antennas and the replacement of two
altimeters/VSI indicators.

DELIVERY OF LEARJET 31A MEETS FIRM DEADLINE
“Refurbishing interiors to update their look and
functionality is our forte,” says Jim Harrison,
completions manager at Jet Aviation Palm Beach.
When the facility recently won a competitive bid
to upgrade the interior of a Gulfstream IV
aircraft, it required a down-time of only 10
weeks. The aircraft was completely refurbished
and delivered on time to a very satisfied client.
The complete interior transformation included a
new, one-piece headliner system; one-piece
window-line panels; new carpet throughout the
cabin; custom designed leather seats and a new
high-gloss wood veneer to give the interior a
much more contemporary look. New marble
countertops were applied to the lavatory vanity
and in the galley.
Jet Aviation Palm Beach also specializes in
shell-conversions for older Gulfstream and
Dassault Falcon Jet aircraft, creating the interior
feel and appearance of a brand new airplane.

OUTFITTED AIRCRAFT ASSUMES OLD ENGLISH LIBRARY STYLE INTERIOR
It's rare and magical when the interior of an
aircraft can evoke the mood of a Dickens’ novel,
but that's just what happened to a Boeing
Business Jet (BBJ). The major challenges of the
project for designer Donald Thompson Industrial
Design, architect Robert Edson Swain, decorator
Leavitt/Weaver, and professionals at Jet Aviation
included maximizing interior volume, creating
alternative environment and an old English
library-style interior.
This was achieved through a new ceiling concept
focused on getting the headliner as close to the
outer fuselage as possible, providing a feeling of
spaciousness. According to José Luiz Monteiro,
sales and key account manager at Jet Aviation
Basel, the client requested winged back chairs for
the library-style section. “Technological design is
our strong suit,” Monteiro commented, “but this
was challenging because of the enormous size of
the chairs.”
The flexible adaptation of the interior for
multi-purpose space was accomplished through

various means. For example, to serve as a second
bedroom, the office was equipped with an
electronically activated bed. The dining room
was also designed to alternate as a conference
room, and the VIP lavatory was equipped with a
large shower, an integrated ironing board, and an
electrically heated towel warmer.
To achieve the desired antique décor, embossed
leather and gold tables and upholstery were
installed. An antique brass look on the metal
plating was accomplished through a chemical
oxidation process. Special treatment was applied
to varnished surfaces to show age and natural
cracks, and then the varnish was waxed to
provide shine and brilliance. Other distinctive
touches included a credenza in the dining room
stocked with china and glasses, and faux books on
the back of the office bulkhead.

BREAKTHROUGH IN INTERIOR AIRCRAFT ENGINEERING TO GET A GOOD NIGHT’S REST
What began as aproject to ensuresleeping comfortaboard this BBJwithout losingadditional space, has become abreakthrough ininterior aircraftengineering.
“The customer requested a custom-built bed thatwould not take up any more space,” said José LuizMonteiro, sales and key account manager at Jet Aviation Basel. “With a combination of Swiss rotational component technology and good engineering,we came up with a bed that is hidden in a wall.” The
bed is stowed uprightin a self-containedcloset in a cabin thatcan be used as anoffice or bedroom. Infront of the closet isa two-place divan. Tobring the bed to ahorizontal position, the seat cushion needs to be lifted and affixed with astrap to the back cushion. Then, with a flick of aswitch, the bed moves to a horizontal position.
The unique design, developed by Basel’s MechanicalEngineering Completion Division, was so wellreceived, that another custom-built bed was recentlyinstalled in a BBJ.
Jet Aviation Engineering
Services recently received
a FAA Supplemental Type
Certificate (STC) for new
first-class modular interior
units for the Boeing/
McDonnel l -Douglas
MD-11 aircraft.
Each interior unit is a modular seating area and consists
of a reclining first class seat, sideboard and privacy
panel. The sideboard includes a pullout table, snake
light, DVD player hookups, magazine rack, life vest
storage, water bottle and vase holder. Designed with
pre-configured components the unit is easy to mount
and improves the efficiency of the installation process
which speeds deployment of the aircraft. A corporate-
operated MD-11 that is used to shuttle employees
non-stop between Texas and the African continent was
the first aircraft to receive twelve such modular units.
Jet Aviation Engineering Services directed the overall
program, and coordinated more than ten companies
that provided parts and services for this project.
Jet Aviation also provided extensive management of the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification
process in close coordination with the FAA’s Designated
Engineering and Airworthiness Representatives.
As part of the international cooperation, all components
were shipped to Taipei, Taiwan where the actual
modification was completed. The complex integration
required approval for various conformities performed at
U.S. facilities and in Taiwan. During the modification
program, a Jet Aviation engineer was permanently
stationed on site in Taipei to act as liaison engineer and
company inspector.
Because of the very tight schedule, final tests were
performed and completed in the aircraft on its
delivery flight from Taiwan to Texas, just one day
before the STC was granted. The same day, the MD-11
flew its inaugural mission from Houston, Texas
to Africa.

In an effort to further strengthen its position in the
Middle East, Jet Aviation will open a fourth FBO in
this region located at Kuwait International Airport
in 2005. In cooperation with Kuwait-based partner
United Projects Company, the new site will offer
FBO, line maintenance and hangarage for aircraft
owners and operators. Today, Jet Aviation operates
two FBOs in Jeddah and Riyadh in the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia and currently has a new site at the
Dubai International Airport under construction.
Because of the enormous size of this project, the new
facility will be completed in two phases, allowing
FBO services to begin as early as the spring of 2005.
Construction is slated to begin in late 2004 and
includes a 4,000 square meter (43,000 square feet)
FBO building, a 5,000 square meter (54,000 square
feet) hangar and 90,000 square meters (969,000
square feet) of ramp space which will be fully
operational in mid-2006.
“We are embarking on a full-scale Middle Eastern
expansion plan because of the steady growth we
have seen in corporate aviation in this region over
the last few years. This is an important strategic
move for Jet Aviation as we continue our mission of
building the most comprehensive global network of
FBO locations that will ultimately offer a full range
of aviation services to our clientele”, says Heinz
Köhli, chief executive of the Jet Aviation group.
The planned state-of-the-art FBO building will offer
unequaled amenities to satisfy the most discerning
customers and flight crewmembers will have access
to latest technology in weather and flight planning.
All Jet Aviation FBOs in the Middle East are equipped
with a prayer room as well. To make transition for
passengers and crew as convenient as possible,
in-house immigration and customs clearance, security
checks, baggage screening and metal detector
capability will be an integral part of the new location.

JET AVIATION AWARDED FOR EXCELLENCE IN CUSTOMER SERVICES
In this year’s Professional Pilot 2004 PRASE
(Preference Regarding Aviation Services and
Equipment) survey, Jet Aviation’s global FBOs
again achieved exceptional rankings. A total of
33,626 ballots were mailed to qualified
subscribers of the magazine. Of these, 10,204
were returned and 7,698 ballots (20%) were
accepted as being properly filled-out.
The results for Jet Aviation are encouraging. In
Asia and the Middle East, Jet Aviation Singapore
and Jeddah were voted number one and two in
the FBO category while Jet Aviation Zurich and
Geneva were ranked among the top five FBOs in
Europe. As an FBO chain, Jet Aviation reached
third position in the U.S. In the same survey,
Jet Aviation’s U.S. charter services moved up to
number two position in the charter category.
In another survey in the U.S., the Exxon Mobil
Premier Spirit Award, Jet Aviation Palm Beach
received a gold rating, but also Jet Aviation’s FBO
in Teterboro, NJ and Boston/Bedford, MA ranked
high in the same survey. The Premier Spirit award
is highly competitive and enormously valuable as
it challenges Exxon Mobil Aviation branded
FBOs on service, image, quality control, and
business performance.

FBO
Last but not least, ranked among the top eight
of over 260 FBOs in the U.S. were Jet Aviation
Palm Beach and Teterboro in the 2004
Aviation International News (AIN) FBO survey.
Respondents were asked to rate each FBO
based on the following criteria: line service;
passenger amenities; pilot’s amenities and services
and facilities.

in service, quality and performance, every time
they fly with Jet Aviation.
“Jet Aviation performs pilot selection, background
checks, arranges for training and takes care of
aircraft maintenance. We have direct oversight
and control of every aspect of the operation. On
those occasions when Jet Aviation is unable to
perform a flight with one of our own fleet, we
actually send our experts to audit the aircraft
operators we use,” explains Bob Seidel, senior
vice president and general manager of
Jet Aviation’s U.S. charter services.
Privileged TRAVEL™ works like a debit-card.
Customers make a block-time purchase and the
cost of travel is deducted from the card for each
flight. In addition, there is no capital risk of
ownership, hidden fees or empty-leg charges
involved. While charges are for occupied hours,
for those clients that are using the card on quick-turn,
round-trip flights, bonus hours of up to 40% are
offered for the 25 and 100 hours programs.
“We are bringing charter back to aircraft operators
and as a global provider of charter services with
coordination centers in Teterboro, New Jersey;
Zurich, Switzerland and Hong Kong, China we
are confident that Privileged TRAVEL™ will
become the charter travel card program of choice
in the United States,” adds Bob Seidel.

On the heels of cautious optimism and record sales
results in 2003, aircraft sales activity continues to be
robust, year-to-date, reports Andrew Stark, vice
president Jet Aviation Aircraft Sales in the U.S. So
far this year, aircraft sold include a number of
Gulfstreams, Falcons, Citations, several King Airs,
and a Sikorsky S-76B helicopter. “We have several
additional sales pending, pre-purchase inspections
under way and aircraft acquisition and sales agreements
in progress,” says Stark. “We are continuing to see
encouraging signs of an ongoing recovery, and
although prices are firming up in some newer
models, there is still excellent value to be found in
the pre-owned aircraft market.”

Operating an aircraft in today’s
international business environment
has become a much more complex
task, not only for corporate
flight departments, but for
pilots as well. With increased
security measures worldwide and a race to develop
global markets, the amount of responsibility required,
is tremendous. Piloting the plane is one part of the
job, but there are numerous other crucial services
and details involved which can make the daily
business of running a flight operation a major hassle.
As a global flight support company, Jet Aviation has
swiftly adapted to the changing environment and to
the individual needs of aircraft operators. Jet Aviation
understands that its role as a partner means 24-hour
flight support, wherever and whenever required.
Jet Aviation’s now offers an a la carte menu from
which flight departments and pilots can easily select
the support services best suited to meet their
specific needs as well as a turn-key operational
package with optional services for insurance and
maintenance coordination. As a major supplier and
buyer of aviation products, Jet Aviation offers
customers the full benefit of their worldwide buying
power. Depending on their fleet size, clients could
easily realize up to 40 percent savings on fuel
and 20-50 percent
savings on insurance
premiums.
24-hr worldwide
dispatch, flight
planning, weather
services, over-flight

and a host of other
services, can bring
much needed relief
to flight departments whose most significant

Spectacular historic attractions filled the travel
plans for a group of 11 passengers from South East
Asia, who recently visited China on a 4-day vacation
utilizing a Global Express aircraft. Jet Aviation’s
Hong Kong charter team organized the journey,
which began in Hong Kong with a first stop in
Kunming. The trip continued to Xian for a tour of
the famous Terracotta Army, with a final leg to
Beijing, where the Great Wall and Forbidden City
were the destinations of choice.
“Sometimes leisure flights can be more challenging
to plan than business trips. The only time slots
made available by the CAAC (Civil Aviation
Authority China) on these dates at the requested
airports Kunming, Xian, and Beijing were between
8 pm and 8 am,” explained Iris Riesen, director of
operations at Jet Aviation’s aircraft charter and
management location at Hong Kong. After several
days of intense negotiations, clearances for landing
and take-off, however, were changed to the initial
requested flexible flight schedule. Four crew
members, two captains and two cabin attendants
accompanied the eleven passengers who thoroughly
enjoyed their vacation.

Singapore/Zurich - After signing a
contract with Remote Diagnostic
Technologies Ltd, the medical
monitoring kit, Tempus 2000, is
now available at all Jet Aviation
maintenance facilities in Europe, and
Singapore. Just recently, two of these
comprehensive medical monitoring
kits were installed in a Challenger
604 and Global Express aircraft at
Jet Aviation London Biggin-Hill.
Tempus 2000 can easily be used by
non-medical personnel and has
already helped save lives during
flights. In the event of an emergency,
accurate medical data, from blood
pressure to 12 lead ECG and other
readings, are transmitted via the
aircraft’s satellite telephone to
medical experts. Tempus 2000
works with land-based medical
response services to provide
24-hour medical advice and support
and enables doctors to offer fast,

Basel - While performing a 5000
landing inspection and a major avionics
upgrade, extensive corrosion was
detected on a Gulfstream III aircraft at
Jet Aviation Basel. Corrosion damage
was repaired around the right and left
wing vortex generators and upper wing
skin as well as at the horizontal stabilizer.
Avionics upgrade included a new dual
GNS-XLS FMS and EGPWS, both
integrated with new multi-functional
displays and a tri-frequency Artex ELT
with navigation interface. The new dual
iridium portable phone which was
installed allows communications and
internet access in cockpit and cabin at
any altitude.
The job was finished when the aircraft
received a fresh coat of paint at
Jet Aviation’s Basel painting facility.

Geneva - More than 30 Bombardier
Global Express aircraft have been at
Jet Aviation Geneva for maintenance
and repair work since the facility
was awarded a Global Express
Authorized Service Facility in 2003.
To avoid any unintentional
moving of the aircraft and to
guarantee the stability of the
fuselage and wing during the
repair, the aircraft was jacked-up
and shored. The comprehensive
project included a partial
refurbishment of the cabin and a
paint job, which was then performed
at Jet Aviation’s London Biggin
Hill painting facility. CORROSION PROMPTSMAJOR REPAIR WORK
Geneva/London Biggin-Hill - A
routine NDT inspection performed
at Jet Aviation Geneva on a Gulfstream
GIII aircraft revealed extensive
corrosion, resulting in major repair work.
Widespread corrosion was detected
at the clothpin wing attach fitting.
While removing it, further corrosion
was found at the aft web behind the
beam box. Gulfstream had to issue
an engineering order and produced
a custom-made web. The aft web
was replaced and a new tree piece
clothpin fitting was installed.
