Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury is the county

town of Shropshire, in the West Midlands region of England. Shrewsbury is laying on the River Severn.

Shrewsbury is a historic market town with the town centre having a largely unaltered medieval street plan.

Today, lying 9 miles (14 km) east of the Welsh border, Shrewsbury serves as a cultural and commercial centre for the ceremonial county and a large area of mid-Wales.

“Shrewsbury is picturesque. I quite like it” – Lida, teacher

Shrewsbury Castle is a red sandstone castle. It

stands on a hill in the neck of the meander of the River Severn on which the town originally developed.

In 1138, King Stephen successfully besieged the castle during the period known as The Anarchy.

.

Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury on the 12th of

February in 1809. Darwin was an English naturalist. He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors, and proposed the scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process that he called natural selection.
