Objectives of Coursework

• The main objective of this coursework is to design and produce the essential parts of our own magazine (The front cover, the contents page, and the double spread sheet)– By doing this, I will find out

how to make a magazine in a professional standard.

– I will also learn certain things that will make my magazine look less amateur

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• My magazine uses a masthead, a strap line, and a general layout, that is often used in many popular magazines. The fonts for the masthead, the strap line, and the main text are all very similar to styles that have been used in classic and popular magazines, (such as Kerrang, NME and Q.)

• It is developed from other magazines, as it uses colours that are not used in other magazines

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• The magazine that I have produced represents those that have an interest in the indie genre.

• The magazine attracts this particular group by entertaining the target audience with news on all the hottest bands...

• ...Whilst at the same time, the magazine has a certain theme that matches the taste of Indie fans.

Who would be the target audience?

• This magazine is intended to be for people who are in their teenage years, or at most mid-twenties.

• They should also have a large interest for indie music, or at the very least, they should be interested in rock music

• The magazine is not necessarily intended for a particular gender. The magazine can be for either boys or girls.

How did you attract and address your audience?

• In order for the magazine to be noticed by a customer, it has to have a good, vibrant masthead and strap line. I believe that my masthead is strong, colourful, and makes the magazine look exciting. The strap line briefly informs the reader of the most important things that will be in the magazine. This all means that if the magazine is on a shelf, yet at the back, then the masthead and the strap line will grab the reader’s eye, and therefore sell more effectively

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

• During this piece of coursework, I have used the following technologies:– Microsoft Publisher– Microsoft Word Art– Canon Digital Camera– Microsoft Office Picture Manager

• Although I am familiar with Microsoft Word Art and the camera, I had never used Picture Manager before this course, and I was not hugely experienced with Microsoft Publisher

• With Picture Manager, I learnt how to install the images from the camera to the computer, and I also learnt how to import the images onto the Publisher file (magazine). I also learnt how to perform a simple layout for each page, and place text in with auto-fit.
