DNA

Consumers who purchase ‘HHR’ will be introduced to new and un-heardof information about hip-hop/rap artists. This means that those whopurchase the magazine are able to talk about these new informationwith their peers. This will also make their friends believe that theirinformation is up-to-date and that they know a lot.

On the front cover of a hip-hop/rap magazine there is always a centralimage of an established artist which takes up about 85 – 90% of thepage. For each issue of a magazine there is always a new artist featuredon the front cover.

The magazine will be modern, fresh and stylish and will appeal to thetarget audience.

The colours I will mainly use on my magazine are red, black, grey andwhite as those are the colours you will find on a hip-hop/rap musicmagazine. ‘The Source’, ‘XXL’ and ‘vibe’ use these colours on theirmagazines.

Front Cover

The masthead of my magazine will be situated on the top left hand cornerof the front cover as this is the location you normally find it. It’s placed onthe top left because in shops when they are placed on the shelf you will seethe masthead. The masthead will also be large and will stand out so it’snoticeable.Readers will know which article featured on the front cover is the main oneby increasing the text size to make it bigger than all the other text on thefront cover. I will also make words like ‘you’, bold because it’ll directlyaddress the reader making them believe the magazine is for them. The page will also be balanced so for example if I use a lot of the colour redon the left side of the magazine is will balance I out with the addition of thecolour red on the other side.Colours I mentioned previously will be used on the front cover to appeal tothe target audience. As always featured content will be situated in dead areas, so text andimages won’t be placed on the face, it’ll be placed on the clothes, hair andbackground. The person for the central image of y magazine will need to wear a hoodieand jacket as it’s stereotypically associated with rappers.

Contents Page

I will make sure to not make the contents page confusing. It’ll be simpleand easy to use. There will be two headings on the contents page. Onefor all the things featured on the front cover and another heading forthe rest.

I will have another image of my chosen artist on the contents page, itwon’t be a portrait, however it will be a full body shot of him.

Red, white, black and grey will also be used on the contents page asthose types of colours appeal to the target audience.

The masthead will also be on the contents page and will be situated onthe top left hand corner

The main part of the contents page is the text which tells you whatother articles/stories there are in the magazine so it’s important thatit’s clear and easy to read.

There will also be a message from the editor on my music magazine

Double Page Spread

There will be an article on the double page spread. This article will beabout the artist featured on the from cover of my magazine. The articlewill be detailed and will be split into paragraphs into 3 columns.

On the left of the page there will be an image of the artist which willtake up the whole page and on the right side of the page will be thearticle.

In order for people to be interested on reading the article, it must lookvisually appealing and it must persuade consumers to want to read it.

I will use the colours re, white, black and grey on the double pagespread as those are the colours I have gone with thought the magazine.

To make the reader want to read the article I will add a quote which willbe enlarged. This will also help them know what the article is about.

The title of the article will also be large and will take up almost 1/3 ofthe page.
