The first magazine, Good Housekeeping, has section headers of Lorraine Kelly and Oprah Winfrey, women who are both over the age of 50, suggesting an older readership of the magazine, coupled with the plug of a set of recipes for cakes and other dishes. However, not only does Marie Clare’s plug differ (94 pages about clothes) but it also has headlines for Beyoncé and Carla Bruni, who are both aged under 50 and are both female sex icons. It also puts a lot of emphasis on sex on both the headlines and the picture on the cover. These subjects are switched for Good Housekeeping, which prefers to talk about money and relationships, instead of trivial subjects like sex at work and clothing articles.

Good Housekeeping’s picture also shows very little sign of airbrushing or editing after it was taken and the woman is wearing a long dress, whereas Marie Clare’s picture uses airbrushing on the face and chest, as well as having a much smaller and more revealing set of clothes.
