With what has seemed like the longest winter of all time, we are all looking forward to green grass in Iowa, thesound of robins chirping and seeing the first trailers drive in for the Spring Gathering Horse Shows. Rollinginto our 6th season of shows, we are excited about the new 3’3” Junior Hunter Divisions, the return of theUSHJA National Hunter Derbies and 1.30m Full Circle Farm Jumper Stake class.
2013 marked the 5th year in a row for Hott Horse Shows to win the USHJA Members Choice Award for bestshow in Zone 6. We would like thank everyone for their support and positive comments. is year we willstrive to expand and improve Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center in order to continue bringing high quality horseshows to the midwest.
Hott Horse Shows will once again be offering the prestigious “High Point Rider Bonus” cash award to thoseproving to be the “best” in their respected sections. Bonuses are based on total points earned by every rider, atall seven Hott Horse Shows. e money increments of the bonus moneys are: $2500 Leading ProfessionalJumper Rider, $2500 Leading Professional Hunter Rider, $1000 Leading Amateur Jumper Rider, $1000 Lead-ing Amateur Hunter Rider, $1000 Leading Junior Jumper Rider, $1000 Leading Junior Hunter Rider. Wealso understand, that without our grooms, most of us would never make it to the ring on time, and if we did,we wouldn’t look nearly as polished. erefore, we are giving a $150 to the leading rider’s groom. Points areaccumilated throughout the 2014 season and awards will be presented at the final fall show in September.

General Rules and RegulationsEvery class offered herein which is covered by the rules and specifications of the current: United States Equestrian Federation “USEF” Rule
Book will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith.
StablingStall requests and entries for the Maffitt Lake Spring Gathering Horse Show I & II will close on April 23, 2014. 196 permanent stalls areavailable on a “first entries with checks, first received basis” @ $200/Stall and will be located in barns A, B, C, D. All other stalls are POLETENT STALLS and are available @ $200/stall. PAYMENT IN FULL IS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO GUARANTEE A RESERVA-TION. PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE STAYING FOR BOTH WEEKS OF EACH CIRCUIT, THOSE ATTENDINGALL SEVEN HOTT HORSE SHOWS and to SPONSORS. Payment should be sent with checks made payable to MAFFITT LAKEEQUESTRIAN CENTER. All blank, open checks sent to cover stabling fees will be filled out and cashed on the closing date of each par-ticular show circuit. To determine the arrival accuracy of any stall requests, Hott Horse Shows Management will refer to the postmark dateon the mailing envelope of each request mailed. All stalls are 10 x 12 and have 1/4 swing-out doors with hook closure. It is recommendedto bring double end snaps and stall chains. Hott Horse Shows does not provide initial bedding. Stalls are available MONDAY, 9AM, priorto first show and every Monday thereafter at 12 noon. Horses must depart by 11am on Monday after each circuit. ALL STALL RESER-VATIONS ARE NONREFUNDABLE AFTER CLOSING DATE. Should the number of stalls available be exhausted prior to the closingdate all requests received that cannot be honored will be returned to the return address provided by mailer. Requests after the closing datethat are honored are subject to a penalty of $50/week. Tack stalls may be limited to one stall per every three horses entered, should lack ofspace be an issue. Please use the enclosed form.
Night Watch & SecurityComplimentary night watch and night security is provided by Hott Horse Shows with the purchase of your stall. Please provide yourname, trainer’s name and emergency contact phone number on the stall sheets provided in the office.
Non-Stabling & Grounds FeeAny horse entered in the horse show, which is not stabled on the show grounds, will be charged a $40 grounds fee. Horses not entered inthe horse show are not permitted on the show grounds.
Early ArrivalsEarly arrivals are only accepted if authorized by management.
EntriesENTRIES FOR THE MAFFITT LAKE SPRING GATHERING HORSE SHOWS WILL BE ACCEPTED WHEN POSTMARKEDAND RECEIVED ON OR BEFORE APRIL 23, 2014. All horses on the show grounds must have an entry on file in the office for eachhorse show. Horses not competing will be assessed a $50 Non-Showing Fee. All entries must be filled out in their entirety. Numbers willnot be issued if any information is missing. All add slips must be presented to starter prior to the start of class in question to gain entry intoclass/starting order. All entries must be closed out on the Sunday of each showing week. Only bills settled up prior to the close of businessSunday are eligible for review. Once the show week has ended all bills are final. All splitting of Tack Stalls, Feed, Bedding, Paddocks andGolf Carts must be taken care of by NOON on Friday of each week. A $45 office fee will be charged to all horses. ere are no scratch/addfees. Each horse entered for competition will be assessed a $8 Drug Fee and $8 USEF fee, which is forwarded to USEF as well as a $2.00Zone Support Fee for USHJA.
Post Entry FeeNew entries received after the closing date will be subject to a one-time charge of $50/show. Entries are only accepted should space permit.
ScratchesScratches must be made in the office on the official add/scratch form. Once the class has begun, adds and scratches will not be honored.
Non-Negotiable ChecksChecks returned by the bank for any reason will be assessed a penalty of $25 or 10% of the check amount, whichever is greater. Upon noti-fication of a returned check, accounts will be given three (3) days to make full payment including the penalty, which must be paid in certi-fied funds, cashier’s check, money order or credit card. Overnight mail service is advised in order to avoid notification of the sanctioningorganizations for disciplinary action.
Trainer SplitsHott Horse Shows offers a service that allows trainers to purchase shavings, feed, tack stalls, paddocks, golf carts and have the cost split be-tween their clients. Trainer splits will be accepted until noon on Friday (no exceptions) of each show week. Please advise your clients thatthese charges will appear on their show bill. Trainers are reminded that this is a service provided by the Horse Show and that doing splits ina timely manner is their responsibility. Additionally, any splits uncollected from the client will revert back to the trainer for payment.
Horse Show Officee horse show office will be open on competition days one (1) hour prior to the first class of the day and thirty (30) minutes following thelast class of the day. On non-competition days, the show office will be open on Monday from 1:00pm-4:00pm and on Tuesday from8:30am-5:00pm.
Check-OutAny horse show bills not checked out at the conclusion of each show will be assessed a $50 fee for check out. Any mistakes at check outmust be resolved within 24 hours.
MembershipAll US Equestrian Federation/USHJA membership numbers that apply, must be on the entry blank or a non-member fee or fees must bepaid. Copies of USEF/USHJA membership cards for Owner/Rider/Trainer must accompany entries. All exhibitors in the Junior Huntersand classes restricted to ponies must present their measurement card. Amateurs must present their Amateur certification before numbers can be issued.
Leash LawAll dogs must be on a leash or locked up when on show grounds. Any owner whose dog interrupts a competitor’s round will be subject tothe payment of the class interrupted. Owners of loose dogs will be subject to fines.
MinorsParent(s) or guardian (s) of minor exhibitors shall hold the Horse Show Management and Facility harmless for any injury to such minor.No child's entry will be accepted or number issued unless entry is signed by a parent or LEGAL guardian. e signature of unrelated per-sons WILL NOT be accepted.
Prize MoneyPrize money will be credited to entry at the completion of each class. Prize monies in excess of balances due will be presented by checkupon checkout or mailed to the owner of record, unless otherwise directed, within 30 days after the completion of the show. Owners ofhorses competing for prize money must provide Federal ID or Social Security ID number on entry blank for money distribution. All ac-counts must be settled by the close of horse show to be eligible for dispute. Eight ribbons will be offered in every class, unless specified.Championships and reserve will be awarded according to GR 808, for hunter, JP 110.2 for jumper and equitation divisions. JUMPERTIES FOR OTHER THAN FIRST PLACE WILL HAVE TIME BE THE DECIDING FACTOR. Management reserves the right tomail checks after the conclusion of the horse show. Premiums can be subtracted from payments.
PaddocksA limited number of paddocks will be available to rent for a weekly fee of $250. All paddocks will be reserved on a first come first servedbasis. No more than ONE horse per paddock at a time.
CampersA very limited amount of on-site camper spaces are available ONLY to SPONSORS. Sponsorship for campers is $250 per week and in-cludes one complimentary pump out. All camper spaces require a 50 amp plug. Please bring the appropriate adapters if your camper is 30amp. Please call Libby Hott at 515-306-1140 for arrangements.
Golf CartsGolf Carts will be available for rent through the show office at $60 a day or $350 per week. Reservations are required to ensure enough cartsare available on-site. Outside Golf Cart Vendors are not permitted on Horse Show grounds. NO ELECTRIC GOLF CARTS MAY BECHARGED ON SHOW GROUNDS!
Motorized Vehicles-MinorsMinors who do not have a valid drivers license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside will notbe permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind including, but not limited to golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm vehicles onthe competition grounds of licensed competitions. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above, described motorizedvehicles as long as an adult with a valid driver’s license accompanies them. e parent(s), legal guardian(s), or individual who signs theentry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely responsible for any damages,claims, loses, or actions resulting from that operation. e parent (s), guardian (s), and/or individual who signs the entry blank as a parentor guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle on violation of this rule are solely responsible for any damages, claim losses or actionsresulting from that operation. Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent (s), guardian (s), and/or trainer (s) fromthe competition grounds for the remainder of the competition and charges being filed against any of the above individuals in accordancewith Chapter 6. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule.
ParkingHorse Trailers and Cars will be asked to park in designated areas only. Parking in the Barn Area is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Horse Vansand Trailers will be allowed in the stable areas only to load and unload. Repeat offenders will be fined.
ManagementManagement reserves the right to refuse entries in accordance with GR914. Divisions may be combined or cancelled if insufficient entrieswarrant. Management reserves the right to amend the Tentative Time Schedule, as it deems necessary. Neither Hott Horse Shows, LLC,nor Tim Hott, nor Libby Hott nor Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center, LLC, nor Melinda Antisdel, nor Maffitt Lake Farms will be responsiblein any way for loss or damage, to any persons, animals, or property or equipment that may be caused by any horse or pony entered by Exhibitor or due to the carelessness or negligence of the person or persons in charge of such horse or pony or their subordinates. is shallbe the condition of entry into the show and show grounds.
Liability/Loss/InjuryNeither the sponsor beneficiary, show grounds, show committee or show management or their respective officers will be liable for 1) injuriessustained in any way to exhibitors, spectators, sub contractors or employees; 2) any article of any kind or nature that may be lost, destroyed,stolen or injured in any manner – although every precaution will be undertaken to protect the property of the exhibitors; 3) Any loss ordamage that may occur to any horse on the grounds. Every horse entered for competition will be under the control of the horse show man-agement. By participating in the show in any way, to include spectator, exhibitor, rider, trainer, agent, or employee or agent of any of theabove agree to hold Tim or Libby Hott, Maffitt Lake Farms, Melinda G. Antisdel, Hott Horse Shows, the Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center,LLC and their officials, the beneficiary, the USEF Federation and their officials, directors, employees and agents harmless for any injury orloss suffered during or in connection with the show whether or not such injury or loss resulted directly or indirectly from the negligent actsor omissions of said officials, directors, employees or agents of the show, the beneficiary, or the USEF Federation. It shall be a condition ofentry that each exhibitor shall hold this horse show blameless for any loss or accident to his/her horse(s), employee(s) or equipment whichmay occur from sickness, fire or otherwise.
CogginsCurrent and valid Negative Coggins must be presented to Show Secretary with all out of state entries. Numbers will not be issued withoutverification.
Arena Footing & DimensionsAll show arenas are limestone base with sand. Dimensions: Grand Prix Ring: 250’ x 325’; Main Hunter Ring: 140’ x 280’; Hunter Ring2: 140’ X 280’; Hunter Ring 3; 140’ x 280’; All warm up arenas provide a limestone base with sand footing mixture.
PolingManual poling and use of bamboo offsets are prohibited at all times while on the grounds at MAFFITT LAKE EQUESTRIAN CENTER.Exhibitors found in violation will forfeit all entry fees for that showing day or day afterwards and may be excluded from showing for 24hours upon any incident recorded with Management and USEF Steward.
Canadian ExhibitorsThe legend “US Funds” must be pre-printed on the face of all Canadian checks drawn from Canadian Banks to pay entry and stall fees.
Administration Fee and Credit Card FeeA one-time fee of $45/WEEK will be charged to each entry for office expenses and medical staff. MLEC does accept Master Card, Visa, andDiscover. All credit card paments will incur a 3% processing fee.
RefundsRefund of pre-paid fees will be given to show scratches received prior to or on the closing date. Refund for Horse Deposits, Stalls, GrandPrix Nominations, and Paddocks will not be given after closing date. After the start of the show in question, entries and nomination feeswill be refunded only on receipt of a signed Veterinarian’s/Doctor Certificate. All scratched horses that remain on the grounds will then becharged the $50 non-showing horse fee. Any fees refunded will be less $45 Office Processing Fee.
SchoolingAll horses on the grounds must have an entry form, complete with three signatures, and a signed open check or credit card. is includesnon-showing horses. Tuesday will be ticketed schooling in the Main Hunter Ring and Hunter Ring 2. A ticketed judged Level 3 Jumperclass will be held on Tuesday in the Graham Grand Prix Ring. Ticketed schooling is available in Hunter Ring 3 on WEDNESDAY,THURSDAY & FRIDAY, tentatively from 11am – 4pm, weather and conditions permitting. One EMT and one First Responder will beon the show grounds. Riders must wear current ASTM/SEI approved headgear while mounted. Dismounted, hand walking may be per-mitted in the Hunter Rings before the show starts each day. All mounted and dismounted schooling sessions will be at the discretion ofHott Horse Show Management.
Medical WasteDue to Federal Regulations, all medical waste must be separated. Receptacles are provided for disposal of hypodermic needles in all aisles.Failure to use them will result in a $100 fine. Please do not mix with manure waste or trash cans.
Feed and BeddingHOTT HORSE SHOWS will be providing a full, feed and bedding service, with Purina Mills being our "Official Feed Company." Pleasee-mail, fax, or mail the form provided in the prize list for orders that need to be processed prior to arrival on show grounds. All other orderswill need to be placed with the Show Secretary in the Show Office. NO outside feed/bedding vendors are allowed on MAFFITT LAKEEQUESTRIAN CENTER grounds. Questions should be directed to the Show Secretary. Trainers responsible for bulk orders need toarrange splits with the Show Secretary by NOON on Friday of each show week. All orders need to be placed with the Show Secretary by3pm each day.
Championship and Reserve ChampionshipHunters: Champion and Reserve Champion title will be awarded to horses acquiring the most points in each hunter section with three ormore entries and a completed Under Saddle class. Points to determine awards are as follows: 10, 6, 4, 2, 1, ½. Jumpers: Champion andReserve Champion title awarded to the two horses, which have acquired the most points in each Jumper section. In the event of a tie, theaward will be made jointly. Prize Money awarded in each jumper sections will count toward their respective United States Equestrian Fed-eration Horse of the Year Awards. Points to determine awards are as follows: 10, 6, 4, 2, 1, ½.
HelmetsSee USEF Rulebook GR318: It is compulsory for riders in all Hunter, Jumper, and Hunt Seat Equitation classes, and Paso Fino classes,both open and breed restricted including Hunter Hack, where jumping is required and when jumping anywhere on the competitiongrounds to wear properly fastened protective headgear which meets or exceeds ASTM/SEI standards for equestrian use and carries the SEItag. All helmets must be properly fitted with the harness secured. Any rider violating this rule, at any time, must immediately be prohib-ited from further riding until such headgear is properly in place. HELMETS WITH FASTENED CHIN STRAPS ARE REQUIRED ATALL TIMES WHILE MOUNTED AT MAFFITT LAKE EQUESTRIAN CENTER.
Horse IdentificationAll horses competing in Federation non-breed restricted licensed competitions with hunter, hunter breeding, jumper and hunter seat equi-tation classes (except those activities enumerated in GR901.9, items 1-9, )must be properly identified and obtain a Registration Numberfrom USHJA. A Registration Number for each horse must be entered on all entry forms for licensed competitions.
Horse & Pony MeasurementHorses and ponies who require measurement, may be measured at the farrier’s stand beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday at all horse shows.
Starting OrderA rotating jump order may be established and posted for all jumper classes, classics, and equitation medals and any other classes that havepriority. All horses must be ridden in the posted order. Riders and Trainers who have conflicts MUST see the starter so that necessary ad-justments can be made. No show ring will be held up due to conflicts for more than three minutes. All starting orders are drawn after theclose of business the day prior to classes showing or at the USEF Steward’s discretion. All accepted post entries/adds will show at the top ofthe starting order. All add slips must be presented to starter prior to the start of class in question.
Farrier & All Other Service PersonnelAll Service orientated personnel including Farriers, Braiders, Veterinarians, Massage erapists, etc., other than OFFICIAL contractedproviders MUST check in with Tim Hott to obtain permission to work on the show grounds. Any persons found without credentials willbe considered trespassing and asked to leave.

USEF Membership StatementLife, senior active and junior active members shall be eligible to participate in all classes at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions at thePreliminary Level or above and Combined Driving Competitions at the Advanced Level, Dressage, Reining and Vaulting Competitions and En-durance Rides. HUNTER DIVISIONSpecifications for all Hunter ClassesHunter Over Fences: To be shown over approximately eight fences at the required height. To be judged on performanceand soundness unless otherwise noted.Hunter Under Saddle: To be shown at a walk, trot, and canter. Light contact with the horse’s mouth is required. May beasked to hand gallop at the discretion of the judge, but no more than eight to gallop at one time. Martingales not permit-ted. Green and non-rated sections will not be asked to gallop.Model Class: To be shown at a walk and trot on the line. To be judged on conformation, way of moving, and soundness.Hunter Champion and Reserve Champion: To be awarded to two horses scoring the most points over fences, in addi-tion, only these will receive full points for ribbons under saddle and half points for ribbons won in the model. Half pointsfor Green and Regular Conformation Model.Course: Courses will simulate fences found in the hunting field such as brush, wall, in & out, oxer, post and rails, aiken,and panels. AADDUULLTT AAMMAATTEEUURR WWOORRKKIINNGG HHUUNNTTEERREligibility: To be ridden by exhibitors who have reached their 18th birthday by December 1 of the current competition year and who hold acurrent USEF Amateur certification. Open to horses and ponies. Cross Entry: Riders can cross enter between the Amateur Owner 3'3" and3'6", but horses may not cross enter between the Adult Amateur and Amateur Owner Hunter sections at the same competition. Riders inthe Adult Amateur section may ride a different horse in the Amateur Owner section, and may ride in any section for which they are eligibleat the same show. Judging: To be judged on performance and soundness, suitability to count. Height of Fences: Not to exceed 3'0”, spreadsmust not exceed the fence height. Combining/Dividing Sections: To be offered in three age groups Adult Amateur 18-35, Adult Amateur36-49 and Adult Amateur 50 & Over. If there are fewer than three (3) entries in an age group, it is to be combined with the other agegroup that has the least number of entries. The Adult Amateur and Children’s Hunter sections may be combined if there are fewer thanthree (3) in any of these sections. The Adult Amateur and Children’s Hunter Pony sections may not be combined. Jog: Horses and Poniesare not required to jog for soundness.Awards: Zone Horse of the Year Awards will be presented annually to the Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35 section, the Adult Amateur 36-49section and the Adult Amateur 50 & Over section.
