The SavannahCollege ofArt andDesign has a study abroad campus located inLacoste,France.Theyare looking toexpand thecampus to thevalleybelow thehilltoptownbyaddingagraduateresidencebuildingtoholdacommunityspaceandgraduatehousing,knownas “themodules”.Themoduleswillbeeasily adaptabletooneortwostudents.Givenaverylimitedsquarefootagemaximum,theroomsareveryflexible,whilestillincorporatingthevernacularmaterialsandcharacterofLacoste.Thecommunityspacewillprovidethegraduatestudentswitharelaxingareatobeusedasameetingpoint,readingnook,studyarea,andsmallcoffeeshopfor drinks and snacks.

Statisticshaveshownthatthereareover800landfillsintheSouth,asopposedto130intheNortheast;becauseofthis,thereneedstobeapointofcollaborationtoreduceourwasteproblemintheattempttoextendaproduct’slifecycle.TheCollectivewillserveasafacilitytoreducethiswastebyhavingadrop-offstationfordisassemblyofproductstobereassembledinnewways.Thefacilitywillnotonlycollecttheproducts,butdisplayopportunitiesfornewuseandhavea“thinktank”officeforfutureideationontheeliminationofwaste.TheCollectivewillbeamergingpointforstudents,families,andtouriststoconnectbyrecyclingandbecomingeducatedontheproductswealluse.Itwillprovideabetter,healthy,andsustainableoptionforthecommunity.
