The doll (hair)• Me being the doll, I decided I wanted to have my hair in high

bunches. I made this decision because I thought it would accurately highlight the childlike identity of a doll to the audience. This then gives an all round authentic feel to our teaser trailer, showing the audience that this is a serious horror movie with serious horror movie conventions. In addition to this I decided to have a look at other main scary characters in horror movies and I made a discovery that high bunches is something a lot of these young, female characters have. It was then that I realized this is to catch the audience off guard. The main scary character in a horror film is to look innocent which creates even more tension and a climatic effect when the audience discovers otherwise. This image from ‘The Orphan’ shows the main character with the same hairstyle as me. However to be unique I decided against ribbons.

The doll (makeup)

• I decided that the best thing to do for my makeup would be the typical doll like face. This includes big red lips, big red rosy cheeks and dark eyeliner under the eyes. This shows that as a character I do not get much sleep- it enhances the fact that I am not normal and could be possessed. The aim would be to enhance features into making them look threatening and scary, this would be to fit with the theme and genre of our teaser trailer. The lips of the doll we would need to make look similar to the actual fake plastic doll we aim to include in our trailer. We then would make my lips red and doll like.

Characters: Babysitter (Sophie)

• As a group we decided that Sophie was going to be the babysitter in the trailer. This character is crucial to the movie because she is the one who we as the audience follow and watch closely, as the audience we create a relationship with Sophie because we have seen her from the beginning and therefore want her to be ok. Because of this fact, what Sophie wears and how she presents herself is also crucial. As a group we decided it would be best if Sophie wears casual, normal, everyday clothes in the trailer. This then creates realism for our trailer and allows the audience to connect with it a lot more. In addition to this, Sophie’s costume being so normal creates a contrast with the other main character (me) because I wear such obscure and not normal clothing to present myself as a character.

The doll I decided that my character should not wear normal everyday clothes because that would cause false simularities between me and the babysitting character. I decided a white dolls nightgown that I actually had in my attic at home was very suitable for this character. It highlights and enhances those ideas and characteristics of innocence and childlike although both my group and I, and the audience all know my character is far from innocent. The white nightgown looks vintage and old, this highlights the fact that know one really knows how old my character really is and how long I have been haunting and attacking people. We decided that this was the best way of presenting the scary character in our trailer; as a doll/child/girl. We wanted to this because our target audience feedback mentioned on the questionnaire said that realism is what scared them most. Also a lot of people that filled in the questionnaire said that children were one of the most scariest characters in horror films and this encouraged my group and I to make that decision.
