This newsletter includes information about important dates for Term Four, the Mackay Eisteddfod, Enrolment and Planning for 2019 and Grandparents Day. Important Dates for Term Four Don’t forget to keep an eye on our schoolzine calendar in each newsletter as we will continue to update it as new events are scheduled. For now we’ve included all of our major end of term events such as our Awards Night and Graduation, our Carols Night and our Graduation Luncheon so be sure to check it out! Mackay Eisteddfod It’s official! We are the champions! Huge congratulations to all of our students, each of whom contributed to our great success at the Mackay Eisteddfod. Central took out the Aggregate Primary Schools Group Speaking Championship Trophy making us both the best performing school for 2018 and the first State School represented on the trophy which spans more than 18 years! Big thanks also to our wonderful teachers who have worked long and hard to prepare our students and in particular, our conductors, Mrs Lando, Mrs Baynton, Miss Bella, Miss Benson and Ms Bell. To allow us to plan our 2019 classes as accurately as possible, please let us know if you are enrolling a child for next year using the survey below. Similarly, if you know that your child will not be attending Central in 2019, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can help your child to transition as easily as possible to their new school and so that we can update our draft class lists. Will you be away at the start of 2019? Please be reminded that families are required to contact us before the end of this term if they know that their family will be away for the start of the school year in order to discuss an exemption from compulsory attendance. Not only will this allow us to include your child in our class planning, but it will enable us to work out a plan with your child’s future teacher that provides an easy transition and lessens anxiety for your child when they return to school. Maintenance around B Block Thank you for your care and consideration in manouvering around the scaffolding that currently surrounds B Block. The great news is that the work being completed is the installation of air conditioners in the Languages, Music and Learning Support classrooms - hooray!     Get Set for Prep in 2019

    If your child is 5 before July 1 2019 they are eligiblefor Prep next year. Send an email [email protected] or call 4969 3111 formore information about school readiness. We are here tosupport your and your child for a great start in 2019.

    We also invite all Preps who are attending Central in 2019to our Prep Orientation morning and information sessionto be held on Tuesday October 23rd. We have alsoadded an additional Orientation morning to be held onMonday December 10th.

    Can’t make our Orientation mornings? Why not drop in toour free, weekly Playgroup, held every Tuesday morningfrom 9:00am-11:00am in our Activities Hall – it’s a greatway to meet the Central Family!

    SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT

    School Improvement Plan – School Review +Parent Forum

    At last week’s Student Free Day, Mackay Central’s staff spenttime examining our school’s outcomes over the last four yearsin order to plan priority areas for our next four-year strategicplan which will commence in 2019. Now it’s our parents’ turnsto have their say.

    Any interested parents and community members are invitedto provide feedback in person at our casual parent lounge /community forum to be held in our conference room at 2:00pmon Friday November 2nd. Alternately, you can still give us yourfeedback using the survey below.

    The last component of our review of our 4-year plan is a fullschool review which every State School undertakes at the endof their current 4-year planning cycle. Ours is scheduled forNovember 12th to 14th and will be conducted by three externalreviewers. A part of this process includes talking to parents andcommunity members. You can find out more information aboutthe role parents play in schools reviews by checking out thefollowing fact sheet;

    As we near the half way point of Term 4, weare looking forward to our first 100%Attendance Raffle for the term which willoccur at Parade in Week 5.

    Similarly, if students have not been meetingattendance expectations, we will be incontact to arrange a time to talk with you in order to create anaction plan for increasing attendance in the home run to the endof the year. Thank you for your continued support when itcomes to attendance.

    P&C Christmas Fundraisers

    Christmas is just around the corner. The P&C would like totake this opportunity to thank the school community for yourongoing support throughout the year. We have had enormoussuccess with our fundraising endeavours, which would nothave been possible without your help.

    Our school Christmas Carols event will be here before youknow it, on Wednesday 5th December. The P&C will berunning several Christmas fundraisers this year – Bakers DelightChristmas treats, Pizza Night, and Christmas Raffle.

    Bakers Delight Christmas Treat

    Bakers Delight have kindly offered ourschool the opportunity to purchaseChristmas treats, with proceeds from eachpurchase being donated to the school. Thefollowing items will be available by orderonly, with delivery being made on ChristmasCarols night:

    Pizza Night

    The P&C traditionally provides catering forthe families to purchase on Christmas Carolsnight. This year we are trialling somethingnew! In a joint venture with Laffo’s Pizza atClaudies, we will be organising a pre-orderedpizza night. This fuss-free catering will allowall parents the opportunity to relax and enjoy the children’sperformances. The menu includes lots of yummy favourites andsome of their house specials. Vegetarian and gluten freeoptions will be available. Laffo’s have offered a fantastic deal onthese pizzas exclusive to Mackay Central. We hope you will joinus in taking part.

    Order forms and further information on the Pizza and Bakeryfundraisers will go home in mid-November. Please keep a

    Christmas Raffle

    This year as part of our Christmas Celebrations, we havedecided to run a Christmas Raffle. 1st prize will be a Bar Fridgefilled with goodies, 2nd Prize is a Food Hamper and 3rd PrizeFood Hamper. Tickets will be $2 each or 3 for $5. Tickets areavailable to be sold in books of 5 or books of 10 and will bedrawn on Wednesday 5th December at our annual ChristmasCarols night. If you wish to collect some ticket books to sell, youmay do so from the Tuckshop Wednesday to Friday any weekbetween now and the end of November. Alternately you can fillin the form that was sent home this week. We appreciate all ofyour support.

    Upcoming Free Dress Day in support of our Raffle

    The P&C will also be holding a Free Dress Day on Friday 23rdNovember, to support our hampers. We ask that studentsdonate a non-perishable food item (please make sure the useby dates are longer than January next year) instead of a goldcoin donation in exchange for wearing free dress. Moreinformation on the Free Dress Day will go home closer to thedate. Once again thank you for your support.
