BMT WBM o�ers a range of expert services to assist legal and insurance investigations.We have extensive expert witness experience in legal and insurance matters covering a broad range of technical issues, but mainly related with industrial accidents and machinery failures and stormwater and coastal �ooding. Our clients include insurance companies, legal �rms, loss adjusters, engineers and managers for industrial facilities, ports and mines. We have been involved as expert witnesses and in accident investigations in a range of industries including bulk materials handling plant, mobile plant, process plants, high speed machinery, industrial, road and rail accidents.

Services often extend from expert witness reports to become advice to lawyers, insurers and loss adjusters. BMT WBM visits sites and reviews relevant technical evidence so that it can answer the key questions developed by the lawyers in order to prepare an independent report for the Court.Our current experts and their general capabilities are outlined on the opposite page. Peter Essig is a senior associate at BMT WBM with over 35 years’ experience performing varying roles which include expert witness services, detailed design, design auditing and project management for large strategically important projects. Peter has a detailed knowledge of the codes and practices governing the safe design and operation of large plant for mines and ports equipment. Throughout Peter’s professional career Peter has been responsible for providing numerous independent investigations of plant and equipment. Richard Douchkov is a Senior Mechanical Engineer within the BMT WBM’s Machinery Group. Richard has 33 years’ experience and has been involved in failure investigations for large mechanical plant and machinery, including the redesign of sub-systems to reduce the risk of failure recurrence and in order to

reduce the risk to personnel. Richard has also undertaken many in-service testing works on rail vehicles, �xed and mobile plant to experimentally capture real in-service operating conditions and loads. His role also includes processing of the experimental data to identify the machine fault and/or assess the design life of machines and structures.

John Parker is a senior engineer at BMT WBM with over 40years’ experience. John has detailed knowledge related to the design, operations and maintenance of large mobile plant used in the mining industry.John has been and engineering expert witness for both legal and insurance client’s .John’s relevant skills and experience includes; detailed technical analysis, load measurement and detailed technical report for submission to an independent expert for mediation. John has also acted as expert witness for the designer of a large trenching machine which has operated in Western Australia. The project involved detailed analysis of the bucket wheel, conveyor and support systems, and preparation of a detailed report for the designer’s legal �rm for use in a pending court action.
