Using one finger on the trackpad moves the mouse pointed, but using two fingers allows you to 'scroll' up and down on the screen. Instead of a traditional button or two or more buttons, the trackpad allows you to use your fingers to select, click and double-click. Just press the trackpad itself like you would a mouse button. See the gestures chart to the right. Sleep Mode and Shutting Down When you finish working on your MacBook, you can choose to 'put it to sleep' or shut it down. Go apple icon at the top left of your screen. Then choose 'sleep' from the drop down menu. When it is time to wake up your MacBook, simply open it up or press the power button or any other key on the keyboard. more The Dock is the bar of icons that sits at the bottom or side of your screen. It provides easy access to many of the apps that come with your Mac (like Mail, Safari and Messages). You can add your own apps, documents and folders to the Dock, too. When an application is open, the Dock displays an illuminated dash beneath the application's icon. To make any currently running application the active one, click its icon in the Dock. The Mac doesn’t have a delete key, meaning the time honoured Ctrl-Alt-Del combination won't work, so use instead Cmd-Alt-Esc to bring up the Force Quit window. Now select the problematic application from the list - which will often have a message next to it - and click the blue Force Quit button. This menu can also be accessed by clicking on the Apple icon in the top left corner, then selecting Force Quit from the drop-down menu.

First things that I found tricky... How do I scroll? Use two fingers on the trackpad and move them up. This will scroll through your screen. How do I right click? Click on the trackpad with two fingers to access 'right-click' options. How do minimise my window? On our Dell laptops the window maximise and minimise options where in the top right corner. On your MacBook Pro the maximise and minimise options are on the top left hand area of your screen. There is no 'Start Menu'. To access things that were in your Start Menu on the Dell laptops you can either go to the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen (for shut down etc) and access most other things from the 'Dock' at the bottom of your screen. You can also use the Launchpad icon which looks like this: Attaching the power cord. Don't be alarmed by the magnetic pull from the power adapter plug - the BackBook Pro's power cord is attached with a weak magnetic force to allow for each 'breakaway'. Delete Routines You can't hold down the delete key to delete things rapidly. When typing, instead of using Backspace to delete one character at a time, use Command-delete to delete lines at a time. You can use Option-delete to delete previously typed words one at a time.
