A small band of locals has been hard at work clearing dead trees from the banks of the Eumeralla River and dragging them across the river to the South bank to be burnt. Hard work! – but all credit to Danny Hill and John Bragg who have borne the brunt of the work with help from a few others. Glenelg Hopkins CMA, knowing what we were hoping to achieve, stepped in and provided two men, Perc and Dylan, to give us a hand and do the chain sawing. The two men have been here several times now and the progress being made is fantastic. We are enormously grateful to the CMA for their support, advice and en- couragement. Perc and Dylan have been a great help and are very willing to work alongside the locals to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. The Eumeralla River – wander down and see the difference!

A small band of locals has been hard at work clearing dead trees from the banks of the Eumeralla

River and dragging them across the river to the South bank to be burnt. Hard work! – but all credit to Danny Hill and John Bragg who have borne the brunt of the work with help from a few others. Glenelg

Hopkins CMA, knowing what we were hoping to achieve, stepped in and provided two men, Perc and Dylan, to give us a hand and do the chain sawing. The two men have been here several times now and the progress being made is fantastic. We are enormously grateful to the CMA for their support, advice and en-

couragement. Perc and Dylan have been a great help and are very willing to work alongside the locals to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. We are hopeful that the work completed to this stage

Music in the Vines Incorporated ABN 65820829676 A0092975C 144 Mount Eccles Road, Macarthur, Victoria, 3286 Michelle Badenhorst (Secretary) 0430 382 432

Music in the Vines – Presidents report 2017 Music in the Vines 2017 was the second year of Music in the Vines.

Based on feedback from the first event, we decided to have a longer day, with music into the evening. The

planning stage of Music in the Vines were mostly complete by mid-2016, with all artists locked in and early

-bird ticket sales starting in August. Early-bird ticket sales went well but there was a lag in ticket sales dur-

ing October – January. Later ticket sales were also very good.

Late 2016, Council changes meant that MIV had to apply for a planning permit (compared to an event plan

and division 2 occupancy schedule the previous year). This was necessary but onerous as very little guid-

ance was given as to what was required. All said, MIV now has a solid event management plan and risk

management plan in place for future events, as well as council approval for the 2018 and 2019 event.

The event itself was an amazing day, with 28 degrees, sunshine and great entertainment, luring over 500

patrons through the gate.

We had over 190 feedback forms returned to us, with the following stats:

92% of patrons came from within 150km, Hamilton, Warrnambool, Macarthur, Portland

76% of patrons did not attend the previous year

53.4% of patrons heard about MIV through friends, then facebook, local media,

94% stated they would come back, 6% maybe and 0% as no

Negative feedback – only 11.2% patrons (shade, camping, transport)

We would not be able to do this without the help of volunteers, and although our volunteer base was reduced

by other activities in the area, we are happy to see the start of The Big Macarthur Weekend and that the

community are embracing the idea!

The MIV committee deem the 2017 MIV a success and are looking forward to the 2018 festival. We want to thank Moyne Shire Council, AGL, community groups and volunteers and MADA for their continued support in this festival.

Meeting’ to be held in the club rooms

on Tuesday 8th August 2017 @ 2 pm

Nita Trigger is turning 100 years young

on the 28th of August. All are invited to

an Open House at her home, on Lake

Gorrie Road, from 1.30 – 5pm on

Sunday 27th of August, to help her

celebrate a wonderful milestone.

The Community Defibrillator

Earlier this year an application for a grant to

purchase a defibrillator for use by the community,

was submitted to AGL by our local Fireys. The

application was successful and the defibrillator has

been purchased and is now installed just inside the

General Store entrance. It is available for any

community member to use in a medical emer-

gency that occurs dur ing the normal opening

times of the Store. Once the machine is turned on,

it will give the user step by step instructions.

However, we are keen to give people an oppor-

tunity to familiarize themselves with the machine

and hope to hold an information/training night in

the near future.

We would like to acknowledge AGL who

generously provided the total purchase cost of the Defibrillator and their continuing support of the Macarthur Community.

Nita at 98 years young!

An update from the Macarthur Wind Farm

Covering approximately 5,500ha of freehold land in South Western Victoria, the Macarthur Wind Farm is

currently the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Operated by AGL (in partnership with Ves-

tas), and co-owned by H.R.L. Morrison & Co and Malakoff Berhad, the wind farm can generate enough

clean, green energy to power approximately 173,000 average Australian homes.

Located approximately 16km east of the ton of Macarthur, the wind farm is a significant local landmark

and one of the area’s largest employers.

Connecting with the community

A men’s group from Sunnyside House – an aged care facility in Camperdown – recently travelled over an

hour tour the wind farm site. The group, aged between 78 and 98, toured took in the southern edge of the

site and got up close and personal with one of the turbines, experiencing first-hand how quickly they stop

(and restart) and hearing the difference.

Michael, the groups driver, said the group really appreciated the effort AGL and Vestas had put in to show-

ing them around. “The visit was originally suggested by Brian, one of the residents, whose son will soon

be starting work at a Victorian wind farm”, he said. “They’ve all had a great time, asking questions and

trying to guess things like the height of the turbine and length of the blades”.

The group closed the tour by acknowledging the birthday of Pauline, the carer on duty, with a rousing ren-

dition of Happy Birthday, then headed on to Warrnambool for lunch.

Supporting the locals

As part of our commitment to contributing to the communities we operate in, we recently announced the

recipients of the first round of Macarthur Commuity Support Fund grants.

At an afternoon tea held in their honour, grant

recipients were treated to a special tour of the site

workshop, included a visit to the simulator – a

model of the inside of the nacelle which is used for

training and continuous improvement purposes.

They also heard more about AGL’s generation

portfolio and moves toward a carbon constrained

future from Jeff Buckett, Asset Manager Wind and

Solar.

AGL’s recent rebrand was a key topic of conversa-tion for the group, with a number commenting on the wind farm being featured in the new television

commercial.
