Title“Glimpse”

Background“Glimpse” is a project whereby, confronting the viewer of the capabilities that images had. Among society, mostly, treat an image as a static object. The concern is, they don’t even realize its true capabilities. From an image, a lot that can be produce. One of it is the art of time-lapse. It is an art whereby, a sequence of images is compiled together in order to come out with an artistic works.

AimTo provoke audience in distinguishing the capabilities of images through time-lapse art. Also to provide the experience of being merge into the new world within time constraint.

PROPOSAL

Page 3: MA - Final presentation

Time-Lapse ConceptIt is a technique whereby the frequency at which fi lm frames are captured is much lower that used to view the sequence. When played at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster & thus lapsing. Process that would normally appear subtle to the human eye such as the motion of sun and stars in the sky, become very pronounced.

It is interesting cause we can managed to compile stack of footages across time, but the outcome is a phenomenon. Sometimes, the outcome is out of our expectation.

The only problem is time constraint. It requires a lot of time to be spent in order to come out with a great compilation of footages.

RESEARCH & ANALYSIS

Field-recordingUsing the technique of photography, the footages can be captured. A few enhanced technique also can be applied in order to come out with a jaw-breaking output

The process of field-recording can execute almost on anything. It just that, ensure the outcome of the field recording being able to produce a sequence of images that create moving footages. Or else the outcome can’t be distinguish by the viewer cause it might be hard to tell

With the availability of portable recording equipment, field recording turn out to be easy. The only problem that is time consuming

Equipmentto proceed with the ideas, a research had been made in order to identify the equipment needed. first of all, “time lapse” footages can be gained by using normal DSLR. that is the frequent way in gaining the footages. i crossed with this new devices, which called “go pro”. it is a mini camera that is so small that is impossible in believing its capability

“GO PRO CAMERAS”

go pro cameras are used by core enthusiasts than any other camera in the world. its capability make it stands. one of the functions that available is “time lapse mode”. this features is powerful. it capable of capturing every images in every 0.5 seconds

Precedence–study: Art Installation's Time-Lapsed Landscapes Collapse Time & Change in Nature

Byproduct of the non-sustainable, modern lifestyle means that humans now often perceive things in the short term, disconnected from an overall sense of continuity and change, something that nature exemplifies best

Taking this limited aspect of modern human perception in mind, Japanese artist Nobuhiro Nakanishi’s layered drawings is presented as a series of static photographic scenes, put one after another in sequence that string together a a story about natural change we can understand visually and simultaneously

Precedence–study: Digital watchDimensions Variable. Two black and white video cameras, 50” rear projection enclosed video monitor, custom electronics, watch. The work consists of a large rear projection video monitor, a camera pointing at an analog pocket watch, and a camera pointed at the viewer. Custom electronics combine a live image of the pocket watch with a processed image of the viewers such that the live image of the viewer is seen outside the area of the watch. Inside the area of the watch is a staccato, five-second delayed image of the viewer

Precedence–study: Memory/RecollectionDimensions variable. Black and white video camera, five CRTs, PC computer, custom electronics. This work captures and displays a sequence of real-time still images of the viewers and their environment, permanently storing some of these images for later display. The frozen images slowly propagate to the right, getting noisier and noisier as the stored images of past viewers are interspersed with the live images

Involved three types of context

Personal contextWanted to share with others what can be achieved by manipulating an image into something else

Social/Cultural contextWanted viewer to understand the pattern of society’s daily life. How people move, what they do, how they interact and etc. Also wanted audience to understand image as a powerful tools.

Glimpse is a project that use time-lapse video, compilation sequence of images that tend to provoke audience in understanding the capabilities of an image.

Each images has its own unique feature that can be manipulate into variety of usage depending on the needs.

The idea is to compile a lot of images that can be used to create time-lapse footages and use it to show the audience its relationship to each other. User can experience urban phenomenon of diff erence places and perspective.

This project aim is to provoke audience not to see an image as a simple element. By injecting a manipulation towards it, a new things can be develop. Also to encourage people to distinguish the diff erences between images and video footages.
