8.1 Dilations
Objective: Today we will identify & perform dilations and we will solve real-life problems involving scale factors & dilations.
Warm-up: COPY the Vocab.
1. DILATION : a DILATION is a transformation in which a figure is ENLARGED or reduced with respect to a fixed point C & by a factor of k.
2. CENTER of DILATION : the fixed point C in which a dilation is performed with respect to is called the CENTER OF DILATION.
3. SCALE FACTOR : the SCALE FACTOR k of a dilation is the RATIO of the lengths of the corresponding sides of the IMAGE and the PREIMAGE.
4. ENLARGEMENT : when the scale factor 𝒌 > 1, the dilation is an ENLARGEMENT.
5. REDUCTION : when the scale factor 0 < 𝒌 < 1, the dilation is a REDUCTION.
Checkpoint: Graph the polygon & its image after a dilation with the given scale factor k.
𝑨(−𝟓, −𝟏𝟎), 𝑩(−𝟏𝟎, 𝟏𝟓), 𝑪(𝟎, 𝟓); 𝒌 = −𝟏/𝟓
8.1 Similarity & Transformations
Objective: Today we will perform similarity transformations, describe similarity transformations, & PROVE that figures are similar.
Checkpoint: COPY the Vocab.
