Where are the gold capital campaign envelopes? Previously, there has been a gold envelope included in the monthly offertory packet of envelopes. Many people have continued to use this gold envelope to extend their generous support for the previous campaign project. The gold envelope has been temporarily suspended. Currently our campaign volunteers are out visiting with parishioners garnering support for the Maintenance to Mission campaign to reduce our remaining debt on the church campus facilities and to raise funds for the construction of our parish activity center providing much needed ministry meeting space. The gold envelope will be re-introduced in the fall. Parishioners may then use the envelope to make their monthly pledge installment or to support the campaign goals if they had not previously made a commitment to the effort.

Words of Life Dear Lord, Why does the Catholic Church care so much about marriage? The Catholic Church cares about marriage because marriage is a fundamental good in itself and foundational to human existence and flourishing. Following the example of Jesus, the Church cares about the whole person, and all people. Marriage (or the lack thereof) affects everyone. Today, people all over the world are suffering because of the breakdown of the family – divorce, out-of-wedlock childbearing, and so on. Marriage is never just a “private” issue; it has public significance and public consequences. One only has to think of the connection between fatherless families and young men in jail to know that this is true. In addition, the proposal to “redefine” marriage to include two men or two women is really a proposal to “redefine” the human person, causing a forgetfulness of what it means to be a man or a woman. This is a basic injustice to men and women, children, and fathers and mothers. Marriage is truly one of the most important social justice issues of our time.

Saint Vincent’s Corner Today, as we celebrate the gift of the Body and Blood of Christ, let us pray for those who are hungry, malnourished and starving. During the month of May, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able bring the peace of God to the poor by assisting 113 families, providing 3,575 pounds of food, and paid $18,987 for utility and other miscellaneous bills, etc. Thank You! For more information about Saint Vincent de Paul, please visit www.svdprr.org.

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

This Sunday, we celebrate the gift of the Body and Blood of Christ, which gives us life! In the Eucharist we share that taste of heaven; that glorious banquet of the kingdom, which is Christ’s promise to us. But this share of heaven calls us to a way of being that reflects heaven – a life of generous self-sacrificing love. During this opening week of the Fortnight of Freedom, the Freedom to serve, how will we express the love of Christ that has been given so generously to us?
