NO HOLDS BARRED“Let’s get away from it all”

Many decisions are follow-ups of instant resolve anddictational impulses of the moment. When Ullas, mynephew and son-in-law, phoned that two berths are await-ing my daughter Lakshmi and me for a forget-all pain, lossand total-mind-block holiday following my wife’s passing,we caught the train and presented our tear-washed face toour dear ones in Bangalore. There were tears, no talk, noteven an understanding mew from our cat whom we hadnamed “Poocha”. They all divined that Amma had joinedthe ages.

I told Poocha that we have our appointed time and theworst and the best of us meet finally and then Gandhi willbe the first to extend his hand in welcoming you to Hari’sworld. These lovely creatures lend beauty and love to thisgrabby world. I am yet to hear the version of the mouse. Ex-parte decisions are not quite legal, but it saves oodles ofjudicial time. Anyway it is a moot point over which moretime need not be spent. Our great wasters of time in courtsare a leap ahead of such masters of waste.

The cat guessed at once that Amma was not among theattendees and, with a feeble “mew” marking her absence,jumped to her incontestable finding that she was perhapsat the Olympiad and would bring home with Sindhu anothermedal. Well, one hopes for the best!

That evening, son-in-law Ullas suddenly planned a tripto his ancient home village and we spent the night at an oldhouse. Later, after mosquitoes had drained us all, we movedto a ramshackle hotel for another repast to a batch of abouta thousand mosquitoes. Less bloody, but full of thanks tothe good old sun which rose early, we made a quick exit andreached home after donating several litres of royal blood tounknown suckers! GIVE!

No Aadhaar card, no LPG subsidy from Oct. 1Sir, As per the directive issued to oil companies by the Ministry of

Petroleum, LPG subsidy will be credited to the respective consumeraccount only if it is linked to Aadhaar Card from July 1. For consumers whoare yet to link the details, the subsidy from July 1 supplies will be parkedtill Sept. 30 after which it will lapse. In effect, the consumers have beengiven a grace time till Sept. 30 to submit their Aadhaar card details to thebank for linking to their account. At the time of introducing the DBTLscheme, the Centre stated that government subsidies will be made avail-able even to those who do not have the Aadhaar card. When the schemeis being implemented without any hitch, the sudden U-turn is bound toaffect consumers who are yet to obtain Aadhaar cards.
