MT. CARMEL High School was founded by Dr. Lela G. McConnell in 1925. As time went by, the faculty and staff grew in number, and their children needed a good place to learn. An elementary school was started to meet this need. For a few years, the elementary school

consisted solely of children of the faculty and staff. But over 60 years ago, Mt. Carmel opened its elementary doors to the community. Since that time, Mt. Carmel has had the privilege of serving hundreds of children from our community. Now, Mt. Carmel High School has officially changed its name to Mt. Carmel School to encompass its growing elementary department.

“MEET THE PRINCIPAL ...MISS PEGGY WHISMAN grew up in Wolfe County Kentucky. She always loved going to school and thought it natural to pursue a degree in elemen-tary education at Morehead State University. Peggy graduated from col-lege in 2009 and began teaching that fall. In January of 2014, Peggy moved to Mt. Carmel with her daughter Mackenzie and began teaching at Mt. Carmel School. She has proven herself to be proficient in teaching multiple grade levels. In the fall of 2016, Peggy assumed the role of Principal of Mt. Carmel Elementary School. She writes:

“Mt. Carmel is a unique school! Our faculty and staff are committed to pro-viding a Christian education to students in our local and surrounding com-munities. While partnering with local families, we hope to assist students in building a firm foundation based on the Word of God.”
