G reetings Marines & As-sociate members I hope
the New Year has started well for all of you. If you have not had a chance to come by and
visit us you have missed out on quite a bit of activity. Please remember to check the newsletter and the event board at the clubhouse so you don’t miss out anything that may be of interest to you.
On the same note if any of you would rather receive your newsletter via email versus regular mail send an email to [email protected]. You would receive the newsletter more quickly and help in re-ducing our expenses.
As you are aware changes have occurred at the clubhouse. We are doing the best we can with the volunteers we have and, it is our hope that you continue to enjoy the benefits and events we are involved in and with. Thank you for being patient and thank you for your support. First the New Year’s dance was brought back to the clubhouse and enjoyed by all that at-tended. We received quite a few compli-ments and “thank you” for bringing it back so hopefully we can continue with that function being held here. The Rudy Palacios Valentines dance was also a great success so a thank you to all the members who supported these two func-tions. The fish fry’s have stated and will continue throughout the Lenten season so please come out and enjoy. We have had different bands performing so as to try and satisfy the various music interest of our members so hope you can out and enjoy. Both Manny Munguia Jr. aka “Bear” and myself have been extremely busy running the club to ensure it contin-ues to run smoothly and be of service to you.
I want to extend a special “thanks” to As-sociate member Steve Garcia who do-nated $200.00 to the club to help with our expenses. Also to Jr. Vice Comman-dant “Jerry Coyle” and Director Marine “Eddie Jimenez” who bought 2 new flag poles in excess of $100.00 each. Thanks to the volunteers who continue to step up and take care of business.
The Color Guard has also remained busy and recently performed at the “Descendents of Tucson” function and most recently participated again in the “Ira Hayes” celebration in Sacaton, AZ. The applause and respect we receive at these functions is unbelievable so thank you to all Color Guard members who give up their personal time to represent this Detachment.
Semper Fi, John Rodriguez, Commandant.
B y the time you read this newsletter, we would
have participated in the Ira Hayes parade in Sacaton. I’m sure that many of you have attended many parades in
your lives, and many of you have even participated in parades. But when you take part in a parade honoring one of the flag raisers in Joe Rosenthal’s famous photograph, and realize that one of them is a native son of Arizona, there’s a level of pride that can’t be matched by any-thing else we do throughout the year. I hope someday all of you at some point go up to Sacaton to be part of that experi-ence. You won’t be disappointed.

Judge Advocate:
2
If you were not present during the last regular meet-ing, I mentioned that in six months, we will need to nominate Marines for Commandant, Senior Vice Commandant, Junior Vice Commandant, and Judge Advocate, as the term of the current elected officers expires in October. You need to circle September 6th, and October 4th, 2012 on your calendar, to make sure you attend those meetings. You, and the person you intend to nominate, needs to be present on September 6th. You must make contact with that Marine long before that day arrives, and know that the Marine, 1) knows you intend to nominate them, and 2) is going to accept your nomination and be willing to serve in that capacity. The worst thing that can happen is that you show up on September 6th, and you nominate someone who has no idea that you are going to nomi-nate them, and then they refuse your nomination by indicating they would not accept the position if elected. The elections will be held on October 4th. Once again, the Marines nominated must be pre-sent, and as many Marine members as possible must be present that day to vote for the nominees.
Marines, if you can’t help in any other way, please step up and participate in the nominating and election processes. Make contact with Marines you know will keep the Marine Corps traditions going at the 007, and help us elect Marines that will represent the Tuc-son Detachment well in all public events and conven-tions. If you can’t be there any other time, we need you on September 6th and October 4th, 2012!
Semper Fi Marines, David Caballero, Judge Advocate
G et well wishes to Marine Alex Romero and Assoc. Rosie Gonza-les, feel better soon.
February 7, 2012 was a proud day for George Granillo and his family, his grandson gradu-ated from boot camp in Camp Pendleton. Congratula-tions Ooh-Rah!

Are Your Membership Dues Current?
Please take a look at your membership card for the date you became a member. The month is the anniver-sary of when your membership fees are due. National
sends out reminders on the last day of the anniversary month, so when you get that notice – you are already delinquent.
If your dues are delinquent, you may need to pay two years worth to stay current on your dues. Please stop by the clubhouse or send an email to [email protected] if you have any questions about your dues
You may wish to become a Life Member. Life member-ships can be purchased any time you are a current paid-up member. So if you would like to potentially save some money in the long run – consider becoming a life member, especially if your annual membership fee is coming due soon.
