This report was commissioned by the Baird government as the basis for all their arguments as to why council mergers are necessary. The government has steadfastly refused to hand over a copy of the full report to everyone who has requested it, despite many freedom of information requests from councils and journalists alike. At the time of writing, we are continuing with action in the Land & Environment Court to try and obtain a copy of the full KPMG report. Our community deserves the right to have the full facts on council mergers presented to them, before 110 years of Ku-ring-gai Council history is demolished by the state government in the stroke of a pen. I am fearful that our council will be abolished in a matter of days, but rest assured that as Mayor, I will keep fighting for our community right to the end. Last weekend I attended the 83rd ANZAC commemoration service at Roseville RSL. I was immensely proud of the students from Killara High School, Roseville College and the Roseville Scouts who participated in the service – in particular, Olivia Dudley from Roseville College who delivered a memorable commemoration address; Andrew Liang from Killara High who gave a virtuoso performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto No. 3 and Lauren O’Hara from Killara High who played the Last Post and the Reveille. The ANZAC spirit is in safe hands with these young residents! Just a reminder that tomorrow Saturday 23 April a special ANZAC memorial commissioned by the West Pymble Chamber of Commerce will be unveiled at Phillip Mall from 11am. On ANZAC Day Monday 25 April there are several wreath laying ceremonies, including the very moving Dawn Service at Roseville, and a special service on Sunday 1 May at St John’s Church Gordon in recognition of the Centenary of the Battle of Pozieres. For full details of ANZAC events in the local area visit kmc.nsw.gov.au Next weekend we will be hosting one of our biggest and most popular events for Ku-ring-gai residents – the Festival on the Green. We have an amazing line-up of attractions and entertainment running for the whole of Sunday 1 May. From 10am onwards, you and the family can try your hand at ice skating at the specially constructed ice rink that will be set up in the middle of St Ives Village Green. We also have a 9-D cinema screen which, if you’re a film fan, takes movies to a whole new level. Other attractions include circus workshops, live performances of Peter Pan, an animal farm, face painting, amusement rides, mini-train rides, over 90 market stalls and an array of delicious food and drink stalls. I do hope you will be able to join in the fun – I look forward to seeing you there!
