Song ChosenMeghan Trainor- “Lips are Moving”“Lips Are Movin” is the second radio single off Trainor’s Title (2015), following the worldwide hit “All about that bass”. In this fast-paced doo-wop throwback, Meghan dumps her cheating boyfriend with style.• Heavily centered around lips. • Draws on a long tradition of songs with this theme: getting sick of your partner’s

lying, cheating ways and kicking them out.

Lyrics If your lips are moving, if your lips are

movingIf your lips are moving, then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babeIf your lips are moving, if your lips are movingIf your lips are moving then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe

Boy, look at me in my faceTell me that you're not just about this bassYou really think I could be replaced?Nah... I come from outer spaceAnd I'm a classy girlI'm a hold it upYou full of something but it ain't loveAnd what we got is straight overdueGo find somebody new

You can buy me diamond earringsAnd deny-ny-ny, ny-ny-ny, deny-nyBut I smell her on your collar so goodbye-bye-byeBye-bye-bye

I know you're lyin'Cause your lips are movinTell me do you think I'm dumb?I might be youngBut I ain't stupidTalking round in circles with your tongue

I gave you bass, you gave me sweet talkSaying how I'm your number oneBut I know you're lyin'Cause your lips are movinBaby, don't ya know I'm done

If your lips are moving, if your lips are movingIf your lips are moving, then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babeIf your lips are moving, if your lips are movingIf your lips are moving, then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe

Hey, baby, don't you bring them tears'Cause it's too late, too late, babe, ohYou only love me when you're hereYou're so two-faced, two-faced, babe, oh

You can buy me diamond earringsAnd deny-ny-ny, ny-ny-ny, deny-nyBut I smell her on your collar so goodbye-bye-byeBye-bye-bye

I know you're lyin'Cause your lips are movingTell me do you think I'm dumb?I might be young, but I ain't stupidTalking round in circles with your tongue

I gave you bass, you gave me sweet talkSaying how I'm your number oneBut I know you're lyin'Cause your lips are movingBaby, don't ya know I'm done

Come on, say!

If your lips are moving, if your lips are movingIf your lips are moving, then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babeIf your lips are moving (Alright now)If your lips are moving (I wanna hear ya'll singing with me)If your lips are movingThen you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe (Here we go!)

I know you're lyin'Cause your lips are movingTell me do you think I'm dumb?I might be young, but I ain't stupidTalking round in circles with your tongueI gave you bass, you gave me sweet talkSaying how I'm your number oneBut I know you're lyin'Cause your lips are movingBaby, don't you know I'm done

What do the words mean?“If your lips are moving”- At this point in the relationship, almost everything, if not everything, that the guy says is a lie. So if his lips are moving, he must be lying.“Boy, look at me in my face”- It’s a variation on the “My face is up here” expression women have to use on the easily distracted.“You really think I could be replaced, Nah, I’m from outer space”- A play on the phrase “out of this world.” She’s one of kind and you won’t find another like her. Unlike the guy in that Beyoncé song, she’s irreplaceable.“What we got, straight overdue, go find somebody new”- What they got is their (failing) relationship. It’s dying out because of him and his affairs. She’s not gonna take it anymore, so he better leave her and find another girl to manipulate.“You can buy me Diamond earrings and Deny ny ny”- When he figures out that she’s doubting him, he’ll try to placate her with jewellery and deny the truth. But she knows the truth and nothing can buy her love.“But I smell her on your collar so goodbye bye bye”- A common sign of cheating is the presence of another person’s perfume/cologne on a partners clothes. Meghan notices this when she kisses her lover and smells his collar–a sure sign that it’s time to leave him.“Do you think im dumb? I might be young, but I ain’t stupid Talking around in circles with your tounge”- At this point, Trainor knows her lover is lying and thinks she’s too dumb to see the truth. She continues with mouth metaphors by using the idiom “talking around in circles”–adding “with your tongue” so that it’s as if his tongue itself is twisted.“I gave you bass, you gave me sweet talk”- Again, she gave him sex, which was all he wanted, and in return he gave her nice compliments and flattery.“Saying how I’m your number one”- He claims Trainor is his “number one” girl. “Number one” also ties back to “Bass,” which topped music charts worldwide (anyone can flatter her with that fact).
