PRESENT POSITION:

Investigating Officer - Essex Police Serious Crime

Directorate

The Major Investigation Team deal with murder, abduction,

rape & extortion.

I am a member of the team and carry out enquiries including

statement taking (including Significant Witness interviews

and Achieving Best Evidence interviews which are video

recorded ) house to house enquiries, scoping for - gathering

and viewing CCTV, intelligence gathering.

I am frequently given the role of Exhibits Officer which

requires maximum attention to detail, packaging exhibits,

recording onto HOLMES ( Home Office ) computer & storing exhibits in the

appropriate manner, taking forensic exhibits to the Forensic

Science Service or Police HQ scenes of crime laboratory, and

preaparing them for producing at court.

As Exhibits Officer I attend crime scenes and am in charge of

the search by specialist officers.

Police Community Support Officer - Essex Police

I carried out this role for 3 years after funding for my

previous role was withdrawn, and was a member of the

Neighbourhood Policing Team in Epping & North Weald in

Essex.

I held regular "surgeries" in church halls etc and met with

local people to discuss any problems and together work out a

solution.

I patrolled my "beat area" as a visible Police presence,

dealt with any issues or problems that arose - ie anti social

behaviour, neighbour disputes, parking problems.

I got to know local residents and shop keepers some of

whom provided valuable information about crimes being

committed which often led to the arrest of offenders.

I went into schools & playgroups to give talks to the children

about "stranger danger" and keeping safe.

Apr 2004 to Aug 2005

Investigating Officer - Essex Police - Harlow CID and

Robbery Team

After completing a Crime Investigators Course I joined

Harlow Police Station's Criminal Investigation Department

where I was part of a team investigating serious assaults,

robberies, rapes, aggravated burglaries etc.

I obtained statements from victims & witnesses, undertook

house to house enquiries, CCTV gathering & viewing,

compiled intelligence packs & victimology.

When I became a member of the robbery team I acted as case

officer for street robberies (muggings) and was successful in

identifying & arranging the arrest of suspects and preparing

evidence for court resulting in conviction and prison

sentences.
