2020 Faith Vision

Convention Goal We welcome you to the 2020 LWML Missouri District Convention in the name of the

Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. May all that we do and say bring glory to God. May our faith be strengthened, and our joy be renewed as we focus

on Christ.

Convention Logo

Designed by Christie Steffens, Organizational Resource Leader Development and past LWML Missouri District President

Description:

The convention theme, 2020 Faith Vision, is based on II Corinthians 5:7, where Paul reminds us, “we walk by faith, not by sight”. This convention year, 2020, is

focused on truly seeing (visualizing) the cross of Christ. It is only through our Spirit-given faith that we are able to see Jesus and follow Him through the many

facets of our life, symbolized by the rays of light and the arrow. In everything we do, may we always reflect God's Light as He guides us every day.

Convention Banner:

Made by Pam Miillie, Southwest Zone LWML Mission Statement:

The mission of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League is to assist each woman of

the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.

Welcome members and guests of the

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League to the

26th Biennial Convention of the LWML Missouri

District. We come together to “focus” on our

theme: 20/20 Faith Vision based on 2

Corinthians 5:7 which says, … we walk by

faith, not by sight.

A procession of the convention banner and all the zone banners ushers in the opening worship service with communion. The Rev. Dr. Lee Hagan, President of the Missouri

District Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, will be our proclaimer. Our Bible studies throughout the convention will be led by our LWML Missouri District Junior Pastoral Counselor, The Rev. David Oddi. On Sunday morning, The Rev. Gary Griffin, our Senior

Pastoral Counselor, will be the proclaimer for the closing worship. The special guest, representing the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, is Susan

Brunkow, Vice President of Christian Life. Susan encourages her fellow Christians to “Shine on” and I am sure she will illuminate us as she shares the news of the LWML.

Mark Kempff, of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, will be our Mission Speaker. He serves as an Assistant to the Director, Center for Hispanic Studies, as well as an instructor for

the Center. In addition, Mark serves as the Assistant to Director, Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology. Be prepared to be enriched by his presentation.

The Keynote Speaker is Deb Burma. Deb is a Christian author and speaker who touches the hearts of women with God’s Word. As a Lutheran pastor’s wife, she shares Christ’s redeeming love in a creative and engaging style.

We continue to be blessed by God in the work being done in our district through our mite offerings. The grants chosen in our 2018 convention were funded by the

generosity of our members. Thanks be to God for this faithfulness. Much appreciation to the LWML of the Concordia, Northeast, Southwest, and

Washington Zones. These members have worked diligently, with their focus on Christ, planning and preparing this convention.

And, finally, my prayer is that you will enjoy your time of fellowship and spiritual growth while you are here. May you walk by faith and not by sight, keeping your 20/20 Faith Vision centered on Christ crucified.

Serving the Lord [and you] with gladness,

Sally

June 2020

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

It is my honor to bring you greetings from the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). This year all 40 LWML districts will meet in convention, each with a different

agenda and a variety of activities, and yet we gather for one purpose: to glorify one God.

Our Lord continues to bless the LWML. We humbly thank Him for the thousands of mission grants funded in the past 78 years, both on the district and national levels, and the countless lives brought

to Christ by the working of the Holy Spirit through your service, prayers, and generous offerings. To God be all glory and praise!

In the next few days, you will meet under the theme “2020 Faith Vision.” My prayer for you is that the Holy Spirit will lead and guide you, that you will take advantage of opportunities to share His Good News with a new friend, and that you will learn

something new about one of the mission grant recipients. I pray that you will always find joy in worshiping and serving our Lord. May love and laughter fill each of your hearts as you learn from His Word, complete the business for your district, renew

friendships, and build new relationships. LWML women come from all generations and from all cultures yet gather together

praising one God. Our passion is to encourage all women to be rooted in God’s Word and to live out our response to God’s grace through mission education, mission service, mission inspiration, and mission giving. As a Lutheran woman in mission, this is your

mission! Please pray for the mission grants selected at this convention and for the 21 national

mission grants your delegates chose at the 38th Biennial LWML Convention in Mobile, Alabama, in 2019. We hold fast to the commitment of our mite offerings to meet our mission goal, remembering that we have pledged to our Lord “our silver and our gold to

extend His Kingdom.” What a blessing to know that our Heavenly Father gives us the privilege to extend His Kingdom!

Your Missouri District, under the direction of President Sally Handrick, has supported the plans and programs of the LWML. I thank God for each of you as you individually

serve Him wherever you are and with the gifts He has graciously given you for this time in the life of the LWML.

Serving Christ, surrounded by HIS grace,

LWML President 2019-2023

My Fellow Redeemed,

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ, our one true hope and help!

It will be a great joy to celebrate with the Missouri District Lutheran Women’s

Missionary League as you gather for the convention in Springfield. As we gather, it will be with 20/20 vision as we live each day by faith and not by sight. In our complex world today, our mission is to consistently point people to Christ. From

early childhood centers to nursing homes, from church plants to historic congregations, we proclaim the good news of eternal life through Jesus Christ that

many may be brought to faith. What always encourages me about the women of the LWML is your passion for that mission. This convention will be a time of encouragement and inspiration as we see what God is doing through His Church.

Let me express my thanksgiving for all that you do to support your congregations

and the many missions and ministries that benefit from your mites. While the convention will point us to Christ, may each of you be reminded that you are the apple of the Lord’s eye and He never takes His eyes off you!

May God bless this convention and our celebration of all of God’s blessings!

In His Service,

Rev. Dr. R. Lee Hagan President, Missouri District

Report of Officers: Vice President of Organizational Resources

The purpose of the Vice President of Organizational Resources

is to facilitate membership and leadership in the LWML so that

the Gospel of Jesus Christ may be proclaimed throughout the

district and the world.

The Vice President of Organizational Resources keeps the

statistics for our district, registers and welcomes new societies

and individual members and helps disbanding societies. Any

society that wants to join in membership with Missouri District

LWML or any society that would like to disband their

membership from Missouri District LWML is encouraged to go

through their zone president to acquire information and the

proper form to be presented to my office. These forms are

acknowledged and brought before the Missouri District Board of

Directors at their biannual meetings for approval. Individual membership is a way a

member of a Missouri District LCMS congregation may become a member on her own. This

is primarily recommended for a lady who wants to become a member of LWML but whose

congregation does not support an LWML society or if the congregation’s LWML society does

not fit the time schedule of the interested candidate. Membership forms are also to be

presented to my office and are approved by the District Board of Directors. They can be

acquired through zone presidents or along with the forms for new societies and disbanding

societies can be found on the www.missourilwml.org website under “Forms.”

The VP of Organizational Resources also coordinates, as needed, the Structure Committee –

Elaine Froeschle, Chairman and Leader Development Committee – Christie Steffens,

Chairman. Their reports follow in this manual.

Over the past two years, I have been blessed to fulfill the following duties:

• Attended all Executive Committee and Board of Directors meetings.

• Served as district representatives for a number of zone rallies.

• Prepared two yearly statistical reports.

• Communicated with representatives from new and disbanded societies.

• Communicated with new individual members.

• Updated individual member lists.

• Updated files on societies in each zone within the Missouri District at least twice a

year.

• Maintained all current files for this office.

• Met with a task force to realign the Zones for District Convention Hosting.

• Will man the LWML Store Booth at the 2020 District Convention.

• Recommended and submitted to the Board of Directors for approval the following

societies and individual members for membership in the LWML Missouri District and

recommended the following societies be given peaceful releases during the past two

years:

Report of Officers: Treasurer, continued

It has been such a blessing and a unique privilege to serve as your District Treasurer for the

Reports of Officers: Pastoral Counselors

Dear Sisters in Christ:

It is a pleasure to serve with you in preparation for this 2020

convention. I served as Jr Counselor in 2012-2014 and as Sr.

Counselor from 2014-2016. Pastor Marty Hasz was the Sr.

Counselor, but he took a call to work for the Missouri District as

an assistant to President Hagan which required him to resign as

the Sr. Counselor. President Sally Handrick asked me if I would

complete Pastor Marty Hasz’ term as Sr. Counselor since I was

already serving as the Convention Pastoral advisor and I

agreed. The LWML ladies are dedicated workers in serving the

Lord in mission and determined to lead the best LWML

Convention to inspire the Lutheran women in our Missouri

District to have 2020 Vision to walk by faith and not by sight as

we live in these days of the Covid-19 virus. I have attended

several Executive Board meetings and many online “skype”

meetings in preparation for this convention. Mr. Nathan Wehrman wrote the Convention

theme song and I wrote the musical score for the pianist to accompany the convention in

song. Many thanks to Nathan Wehrman for his God-given talent.

LWML members, thank you for the opportunity to serve as Sr. Counselor for several

months in Pastor Hasz’ absence and I will continue to support the LWML on the society and

zone level in the Southwest Circuit. May the Lord continue to bless the ministry of the LWML

as each one shares Jesus to the next generation to walk by faith. Remember, your mission

is never in vain. To God be the glory!

Report of Officers: Communication Webmaster

As Webmaster, this past biennium has kept me busy, especially

because I currently serve as Webmaster for the Missouri, Montana and

Florida-Georgia Districts. I worked to make all of the changes from the

last District Convention and updated all of the information necessary.

In 2017, one favorite thing I got to do was serve as one of two YWR’s

who attended the Albuquerque Convention through the Montana

District where I was serving as a Called teacher. I was even able to

take my son, Dakota, with me. My parents were serving Nationally for

LWML at the time, so we found some time to spend with them, too.

Throughout this biennium, we accepted a Call for me to serve as the 5th grade teacher in

Jacksonville, FL. It has been a busy time, but through it all, God has been before us. Most

of my time as Webmaster is now spent updating and changing information as needed. It is a

joy to continue to serve the women and men of the Missouri District LWML as Webmaster

even though I’m many miles away.
