7am: The Queen Victoria ‘Lusitania Remembered’ themed cruise berths at the Deep Water Quay, Cobh.

10am: St Colman’s Cathedral: Special commemorative Mass. Especially welcome will be relatives of those who died, helped in the rescue effort or who survived the sinking of the Lusitania. Immediately afterwards there is an opportunity for everyone to attend an informal gathering in Cobh Parish Centre, adjacent to the Cathedral, to mingle and enjoy refreshments and to sign a special Book of Remembrance.

11.45am: Old Church Cemetery: Wreath laying ceremony at the graves of Lusitania victims and unveiling of glass memorials by the chairman of Cunard to all those buried there.

1pm: Town Centre and Promenade: President Michael D. Higgins inspects Naval Guard of Honour. Prayers, musical honours and tributes, concluding with the Captain of the Queen Victoria reciting ‘Ode of Remembrance’.

2.35pm: Lusitania Peace Memorial: Wreath laying ceremony by the President of Ireland and the British, German and U.S. Ambassadors. This will end the official commemoration.

2.45pm – 4.15pm: Promenade: Classical Music performances.

5pm: West Beach Camber: Unveiling of individually crafted tiles in memory of the victims buried in Cobh.

6.30pm: The Queen Victoria departs Cobh.

8pm: Promenade: A free open air musical tribute concert featuring local musicians will take place in the Promenade, Cobh.

9.15pm: Cork Harbour: At twilight, a flotilla of small boats, each illuminated with white lights, will sail from Roche’s Point towards Cobh. The boats will re-enact the rescue efforts and symbolise the return to Cobh on 7th May 1915 of boats filled with victims and survivors.

9.30pm: Kennedy Pier: Boat carrying the Cunard Flag comes alongside. A procession of light proceeds to the main stage in the Promenade while the 49 bell carillon of St. Colman’s Cathedral rings out across the harbour.

9.45pm: Grand Finale of all the contributors to this Centenary Commemoration on the main stage in the Promenade.

Cobh was to witness the horror and tragedy of the aftermath of the sinking of the Lusitania. Survivors and bodies were brought into a community that responded with courage and compassion.

Cobh people remember this tragedy every year on or about the anniversary with a fitting remembrance ceremony.

In this centenary year, the people of Cobh have planned a series of events to commemorate that tragic day and the days that followed.

1201 people lost their lives and the lives of those who survived would never be the same.
