How you get lung cancer

• If you smoke often, lung cancer becomes more possible, BUT, the length of time you have been a smoker is most important. Cigarette smoking is the main cause of lung cancer.

• As soon as you stop smoking the risk of lung cancer goes down.

Other reasons for lung cancer

• The second most important risk factor for lung cancer is exposure to radon gas.

• Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can seep out of the soil.

• Less important risk factors include air pollution, exposure to certain chemicals, previous lung disease, family history of lung cancer, past cancer treatment and having poor immunity.
