Millions of tons of garbage are produced in every

single country in the world each year. We can try to

decrease this amount by recycling. Many materialscan be reused and even though they may look like

unnecessary pieces of garbage, they may be still

useful when they are delivered to recycling centers.

By recycling we can save natural resources (such as

water, timber and minerals) in order to save the

land from being polluted by garbage dumps, as

well as reduce contamination of water and air.

Recycling is necessary if we want to live

environmentally friendly and save our planet for

future generations.

If you want tosupport the idea of recycling, you

should not only sort your garbage and return it to

recycling centers, but also purchase products madeof and even get them wrapped in recycled

materials.

that you are responsible and doing what is

necessary to help the environment. When

In Vietnam, almost people have

habit of using the plastic bags while shopping.

53% of them do that because plastic bag is freely

distributed by seller

25% feel uncomfortable when they have to bring bags

Only 7% of buyers bring their own bags.

Every month, Maximark uses 10 tons of plastic bags, Big C uses 20 tons.

In Hanoi, every household uses 11.3 plastic bags per day. In fact, the bag will

be discharged into the environment after being used, it’s not only causing

serious environmental pollution (the time for plastic bags to be decomposed

in nature is up to hundreds of years) but also wasting money.

800,000 households will waste 9,000,000 plastic bags per day,

equivalent to 3, 240 billion bags per year. If each bag costs 200 VND

the amount is wasted up to 648 billions VND each year.

Environmentally preferable purchasing: check the

information on the labels of products before buying.Use reusable/recycled bags while you’re shopping: the

plastic bags are biodegradable so it pollutes our earth.

Remember to bring your reusable/recycled bags and

refuse plastic bags while shopping.

Buying safe vegetable and fruits: don’t choose vegetable

and fruits contaminated with fertilizer and pesticides.

Those chemicals are not only harm for health but also

damage our environment.

Using the environmentally preferable food-boxes: foam

boxes and plastic bags shouldn’t be chosen to contain

food. These items are not hygienic and also cause

pollution.

Using cloth towels, washcloths and handkerchiefs instead

of tissues. Napkin is used widely because of its

convenience but have you ever wondered to make napkins

what were taken away from the earth? Green trees, water,

electric power and besides chemicals to bleach them alsocause pollution…

Classifying garbage: there are 2 kinds of wastes – organic

and non-organic. Don’t forget to classify the garbage

before bringing out.

The earth is facing many risks from environmental pollution

caused by human activities. This consequence then have direct

harms to you and your family. There are thousands of ways to

save the our environment. The most important element is if

you really care about it. As a new year is coming, let start a

Green year by having an action right now just to keep our

planet green forever.

Do you know?

Three times as many severe natural disasters occurred in 1990s than in 1960s.

Since 1861, the 10 hottest years occurred during the last 20 years.

Global sea level rose by between 10 and 20 cm during the 20th century

Desertication of Northern China (also due to tree removal): During 2005, desert

has increased by an area larger than Britain. Dust storms happened in the 1990s

three times as many as in the 1960s.During 2003, high temperature extremes reached Europe, causing over 20,000

In India, 1400 people (mostly outdoor workers) died of heat exhaustion with

exceptional temperatures up to 49°C.

Many coral reefs and planktons died due high acid level in oceans as they absorb

more carbon dioxide from the air.

In Vietnam, predictions for the extent of sea level rise in the future dier, but by

2100 the see level in the region is predicted to rise of up to 1m which will result

to an area of 15,000 to 20,000 km2 in the Mekong Delta would be ooded.
