Light Output Performance
Light Output from Luminaires is defined by three important
factors:
1) The efficiency of the luminaire in directing the light from the lamp onto a surface.
2) The amount of light trapped in the luminaire housing.
3) The amount of light which comes out of the lamp up above a horizontal plane.
What Type of Products Can We Test?
• Various Types of Luminaires including:
– Indoor Light Fixtures
– Residential Light Fixtures
– Street Lighting Fixtures
– Area Lighting Fixtures
– Spotlights
– Floodlights
– Flashlights
Industry Standards
• IESNA LM-79-08 Approved Method for Electrical and Photometric Measurements of Solid-State Lighting Products
– Applies to both LED Luminaires and LED Light Sources intended for retrofit applications.
– Measurements include:• Total Luminous Flux• Electricals (Input Voltage, Current, & Power)• Luminous Intensity Distribution• Color
– Chromaticity – Correlated Color Temperature– Color Rendering Index
• Spectral Power Distribution• One Sample per Model Required for Testing
What Does the Test Report Include?
Typical IESNA LM-79-08 Report Includes:
• Luminaire Efficacy, Minimum Light Output, Zonal Lumen Density
• Color Measurements (CCT, CRI, Chromaticity) and Electrical Measurements
• Spectral Distribution over visible wavelengths (mW/nm)
• Absolute Intensity Candlepower (cd) Summary table
• Isocandela Plot
• Luminance Summary table
• Illuminance – Cone of Light Plot
• Illuminance – Isofootcandle Plot
• Illuminance – Roadway Isofootcandle Plot (if streetlight)
• Picture of sample
• IES File
Industry Standards
• IESNA LM-80-08 Approved Method for Measuring Lumen Maintenance of LED Light Sources
– Details specific method for measuring Lumen Depreciation of LED Arrays and LED Modules.
– Measurements include:
• Lumen Maintenance to 70% Depreciation
• Measurements taken at 7 points over three temperatures (Ts = 55°C, 85°C, and “x” = client choice)
• Measurements taken at 1,000 Hour increments to 7,000 hours.
• Color Maintenance also tested to monitor color shift at same points.
• 3 Samples Required for Testing (One per Temp.)
