LESSON THREE GATHERING INTO ONE

Gathering

When seeds are scattered into theground, plants grow, and theseproduce food.

Jesus said: And he said, So is thekingdom of God, as if a man shouldcast seed into the ground; Andshould sleep, and rise night and day,and the seed should spring and growup, he knoweth not how. For theearth bringeth forth fruit of herself;

first the blade, then the ear, afterthat the full corn in the ear. Butwhen the fruit is brought forth,

immediately he putteth in the sickle,because the harvest is come. (Mark4:2629).

He that is not with me is againstme; and he that gathereth not withme scattereth abroad. (Matthew12:30).

Satan and general sin have beenbehind the scattering of the Word ofGod. Also, many Christians havescattered the Word by sowing it inmany places around the world. Allthis must come to fruit. And that isexactly what already has been

happening in history.

Key events

There is a series of key events whichoccurred in history which allowedEnglishmen to have their own Bible.

The first thing was that the Turks,using gunpowder weapons, wereable to conquer Constantinople.

Constantinople was the capital of theEastern Roman Empire and the headof the Orthodox Church. It had beenthe centre for the preservation of theNew Testament in Greek, but as theTurks overtook the Greek lands, thecopies of the New Testament werebeing brought into Western Europe.

Once there, scholars could viewthese manuscripts for the first time.

Another thing of vital importancewas the invention and developmentof the printing press.

A Turkish warrior

European scholars could look ataccurate copies of the NewTestament written in Greek, andbegan to see which words really didbelong to Scripture. They thenprinted these Bibles, which weremore accurate than the Latintranslations.

From Wycliffe to Gutenbergs press

In the Reformation, the Protestantscholars were able to take theaccurate printed Greek and translateinto European languages. Soon theBible was able to be in the hands ofboth rich and poor folk.

Thirdly, at the same time that theprinting press was invented, and theTurks were overrunning Eastern

Europe, the English language, notFrench, was settled as the languageof England. This is because for overa hundred years, the French-speaking English kings had beenfighting against the French, and lost.

The story of the Old Testament issimilar. The Old Testament was oncehoused in copies, whether atJerusalem, or at synagogues, or inpossession of scattered Jews.

The old scrolls were also printed,ready to be used as accurate copiesof the Hebrew Old Testament, whichwere then used by the Reformers to

translate Bibles into the commonlanguages of Europe, especiallyEnglish.

Good Tradition

Therefore, brethren, stand fast, andhold the traditions which ye havebeen taught, whether by word, or

our epistle. (2 Thessalonians 2:15).

Hold fast the form of sound words,which thou hast heard of me, in faithand love which is in Christ Jesus.(2 Timothy 1:13).

Christians were able to receive of thegood tradition which had come downto them through the years. TheEnglish Bible was begun, and soonimproved upon in a series ofpurifications.

English Bibles

The words of the LORD are purewords: assilver tried in a furnace ofearth, purified seven times. Thoushalt keep them, O LORD, thou shaltpreserve them from this generationfor ever. (Psalm 12:6, 7).

The Scripture shows that Gods Wordhas gone through a process ofpurification in the Earth.

It must be a sign from God thatthere are seven major English Bible

versions leading to the King JamesBible.

When the King James Bible wastranslated, their instructions were tofollow the following versions:Tyndales (1525, 1534),Matthews (1537),Coverdales (1535),The Great (1539),

The Geneva (1560), and primarily,The Bishops (1568).

ones, they were able to produce oneprincipal good one.

The Bishops Bible

In 1604, King James the Firstordered that there should be onemore exact Translation of the HolyScriptures into the English Tongue.

The translators recognised that thiswould be the final English Bible.

A great number of learned men(Anglicans and Puritans) fromLondon, Oxford and Cambridge wereto be employed in the translation.Then it was edited where all thelearned men had input into it, and itwas finally printed in 1611. Itbecame Britains national treasure,the literary touchstone.

The King James Bible is both themost loved and (by others) the mosthated book. Millions of copies of ithave been distributed all across theworld, and today it is freely availableanywhere on Earth (by the internet).

King James the First

The King James Bible is particularlyimportant in fulfilling some majorBible prophecies.

But now is made manifest, and bythe scriptures of the prophets,according to the commandment ofthe everlasting God, made known toall nations for the obedience of faith(Romans 16:26).

Jesus said, And this gospel of thekingdom shall be preached in all theworld for a witness unto all nations;and then shall the end come.

(Matthew 24:14).
