Distribution

• Distribution- the action of sharing something among a number of people

• Film distribution- an action where a film is made available for an audience to watch, after being shared by a film distributor, normally at the start the distributor will acquire rights to a film and the distributor will plan a strategy for release, the will release a trailer for the film, using different agencies, afterwards they agree exhibition deal with cinemas and finally make the films available for home entertainment.

Examples of film distribution companies

• - 20th Century Fox is on the biggest films distributors, it was founded in 1935, it’s been owned by news cooperation and 21st centaury fox. Examples of films it distributed are Avatar, Ice Age: Dawn of the dinosaurs and Night at the museum.

• Artificial Eye is an U.K. based independent film distributor, example of films they distributed is fill the void.

My film • Our film was a psychological thriller, similar to

Shutter Island, which was produced by Paramount pictures, which is a major film distribution company, they probably may not be interested in my film, as it was made on a small budget and did not feature any well known actors in the film.

Who does my film appeal to?• My film appeals to a wide variety of audience

as it doesn’t just relate to one small area or country, so it may be popular outside of the U.K. The only problem is that it may not appeal outside of the U.K. that much, due to it not featuring well known actors, but the location could mean people from the U.K. are more likely to watch the film

Marketing strategies

• For my film, I would release a trailer and the trailer would be shown in cinemas and on T.V. advertisements, as these would be the places that you would expect to see a film of this genre.

Self-distribution

• Pro’s: distribute your film nationally, qualify for your film for an Oscar

• market your film to foreign countries, • gives you a highly skilled publicist to set up press

screenings, promote the film, • submit your film to major digital platforms • Cons: it’s a full time job, as it can take very long to do• you need to be legally savvy• it may limit your sales
