Luftwaffe Field Division 1944

Luftwaffe Field Division 1944-45 Morale and training was average at best, in the East the Heer took over the senior command functions, whereas at the frontline, due to lack of experienced NCOs and Officers they suffered setbacks and massive casualties. In the West they did a little better as they had more time for training. The equipment was captured or salvaged stock, a lot of the Mg’s used were taken from downed and unserviceable aircraft. The MG-13 and MG-15 had skeleton butts fitted and a bipod similar to the MG-34. Also MG131s were used in the sustained fire role and also old French stock such as Hotchkiss MMGs. As with most infantry units there was a distinct lack of transport (usually the feet) what little there was, were horse limbers and carts. A similar ground unit was the Flieger Horst (flying host) these were troops from flying units pressed into ground combat. Support weapons again came from captured stocks, Czech, French and Russian guns were used in abundance, along with the problems of logistics. Morale and training was average at best, in the East the Heer took over the senior command functions, whereas at the frontline, due to lack of experienced NCOs and Officers they suffered setbacks and massive casualties. In the West they did a little better as they had more time for training.

The equipment was captured or salvaged stock, a lot of the Mg’s used were taken from downed and unserviceable aircraft. The MG-13 and MG-15 had skeleton butts fitted and a bipod similar to the MG-34. Also MG131s were used in the sustained fire role and also old French stock such as Hotchkiss MMGs.As with most infantry units there was a distinct lack of transport (usually the feet) what little there was, were horse limbers and carts.

A similar ground unit was the Flieger Horst (flying host) these were troops from flying units pressed into ground combat.

Support weapons again came from captured stocks, Czech, French and Russian guns were used in abundance, along with the problems of logistics.

(a) Notes 17thLFD had attached 2x French 150mm as well, but no training on them so reduce the factors to 0 vs V, +1 vs T,G,sV simulate unfamiliarity.

(b) Russian front units scrounged or stole what ever was available, so can swap for Russian 76mm or 122mm (5th FD)

(c) The FOOs seem to be attached directly to HQ elements rather than acting separately.
