May 7th/005 Ludlow Scrubs In response to a shortage of PPE in our local area an initiative has been launched across Ashford Carbonel and Ludlow to make and provide suitable garments. The idea came from seeing what else was going on in the county on Facebook. A few quick requests placed on the PULLING TOGETHER LUDLOW Facebook page and using a local email network, was all that was needed to see the project underway in a matter of days. Through the collaboration of a group of talented people including Jouls Elliot-Sysum, Carmel Wilson and Lisa Chapman, efforts were centralised to sew scrubs, gowns and masks. The process was co-ordinated with various care homes and the surgeries in Ludlow. Suitable material is being sourced, through donations of things like duvet covers and sheets for re-purposing. A team of cutters found the patterns and cut them to the required sizes. The cut pieces were then passed onto a team to sew, label, launder and deliver. This initiative was also supported by a couple of small business in Ludlow who should also be recognised for their efforts: The Ludlow Curtain Company and The Wool Shop. All involved freely gave their time, resources and enthusiasm with great energy, so it is with great thanks, that we celebrate the work of all those who participate in this project to protect our key workers - well done all! At time of writing, 'Ludlow Scrubs' are just finishing a batch of masks for one Care Home and are about to produce masks for registered PULLING TOGETHER LUDLOW volunteers who are delivering prescriptions, shopping or children’s books. If you'd like a free mask to help with your volunteer work please email your request to [email protected] along with your volunteer badge number. If you'd like to get involved making items, or are linked to an organisation that might want to receive some, please get in touch. Children’s books Last week we featured the new Children’s Book Swap scheme. The list of books available can now be found on the PULLING TOGETHER LUDLOW website (see menu at top right hand corner) or click here to take you straight there. This page also tells you how to borrow books from the swap scheme, or how to donate books that you may have spare.

Out & About

This week we’ve been out and about with Sylvia Duffy, who has been expressing her thanks to key workers and local businesses for looking after us during these difficult times.

And last week we showed you a couple of unusual pictures taken in Ludlow for you to guess where they are. They showed a display in Bodenhams’ shop window and the sign over the entrance to Ludlow College (revealing only OW CO !). Well done if you got them both right. Below are two more for you to scratch your head about this week (answers next week).

We would like to make ‘Out & About’ a regular feature of TOGETHERbulletin, so if you have any pictures that show what you have been doing to help, or illustrate signs of hope and encouragement, or even some of the more obscure parts of Ludlow, please email them to [email protected]
