Page 2: Lucy's story

For her Award, Lucy chose to:

• help James with his reading at school; • help run several activity nights at her youth club;• work with others to create a presentation about youth services in the local area; • participate in her school's Eco-School group;• teach her younger brother how to play the keyboard; and,• make crafts for sale at a coffee morning.

The challenges she set herself require Lucy to help organise activities, and to help support other young people.

Page 4: Lucy's story

One of Lucy's challenges involves her inviting a youth counselling service to her youth group so she can learn about what they have to offer.

Page 5: Lucy's story

Lucy's peers agreed that the challenges were suitable for Lucy to work towards. They also monitored her evidence and checked her booklet.

Lucy collects evidence as she works on her challenges.

Some of her evidence is generated by the activities she's working on: attendance sheets, meeting notes, etc.

Other forms of evidence are arranged by Lucy: annotated photographs, witness statements, videos, presentations, and so on.

Lucy's portfolio went through the Youth Achievement Awards moderation process:

• first it's assessed by Lucy’s peers• then it's assessed by Lucy's youth worker or teacher• next it's checked over (internally moderated) by another youth worker or teacher• finally it's checked (externally moderated) at a national event by workers and teachers from other schools and organisations.

External moderation is overseen by ASDAN who accredit the Award.

Youth Achievement Awards measure the distance a young person has travelled on their learning journey.

Lucy's evidence and self-reflections indicate she has come a long way.
