Hello Loveland Families, We have had a great start to the school year! It has been wonderful getting to know your students and this staff. Please take note of the following as we continue into the Fall semester. Mr Wests PLAY 60 class would like to thank GENYOUth National Dairy Council Fuel Up to Play 60 and the NFL for sponsoring a flag football class kit and curriculum to inspire healthy lifestyle choices for our youth

Choir

In October the choirs will perform community service at both Sugar Valley and Harvest Pointe retirement centers as well as at Embassy Suites for the Gifted and Talented (GT) state conference We believe serving our community in these ways helps us create a connection to those outside school and also helps bring joy to someones day that wouldnt have ordinarily had the opportunity to hear fun music The retired folks in our community especially enjoy getting to see our young people and share stories of when they were in school

8th Grade Team

Hello from eighth grade We have a bit of information to help you know what is happening with your kids at school In science students are working on scientific process skills and learning how to design investigations and will be exploring matter and physics next Math is trying a new homework system involving the online program TENMARKScom students and parents can find tutoring help there as well Students have already gotten their login information and should be getting on the site already Parents can set up an account to monitor their childs progress Individuals and society (history) is wrapping up a unit on personal finance and will be starting to study Jamestown Students are doing a novel study of The Outsiders in language and literature feel free to tune into some Elvis to get them into the time period Its been a great start and we are enjoying your kids Thank you for sending them prepared and positive

6th Grade Team

Sixth grade is off to a great start Students are settling in and becoming more comfortable with their new school In Individuals and Societies students are learning about maps and practicing their geography skills Mr Jackson and Mr Georges classes recently did a fun map activity outside at the track that students loved Students are also working on learning the different types of maps and how to use different geographic tools to solve problems This unit will last until about mid-October and afterwards students will begin learning about culture and how where you live influences how you live

We would like to introduce you to some of your students teachers for their 7th grade year In October we will profile the teachers who are not in this September edition We want to thank you for a wonderful start to the 2016-2017 school year

Ms Theresa Ann McCarthy I begin my 21st year in teaching and my 18th year at Lucile Erwin Middle School I teach 7th grade social studies and 8th grade US history I am also the Student Council adviser

I am a Boston girl who loves her Boston sports teams I am a BIG Boston Bruins Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan which I know does not make me very popular here in Bronco Country My college teams are the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and the Colorado Buffaloes

In my spare time I enjoy playing competitive softball volunteering with my college alumni groups and hanging out with my dog Rudy

I look forward to another great year Its good to be a WILDCAT

Mrs Sue Teumer I have been the GT educator at LEMS since 2005 and I am in my second year sponsoring National Junior Honor Society here During the first two thirds of my career I taught special education elementary and college students and even taught on a therapeutic farm

I am passionate about the outdoors and about animals and focuses much of her out-of-school time in these areas

Ms Linda Hewett I am entering my 29th year of teaching What Shock You dont look that oldhellip all appropriate responses to that comment I began teaching in Albuquerque New Mexico spent eight years at Mary Blair Elementary and have worked as a 7th grade MATH teacher at Erwin since it opened In my younger years my passion was playing and coaching sports especially softball Now that I am all grown up I love watching all sports and am the Athletic Director at Erwin

When I am not at school you will find me spending time with my family my friends and my dog Lucky

I love traveling the outdoors my book club my church reading my friends my family and sleeping in on the weekends I am proud to be an Erwin teacher and am excited about this year

Mrs Katie Corrigan I teach English Language Development which is a core replacement literacy course We cover all the ELA common core standards through a different curriculum and emphasize growth for English Learners in the academic language areas of speaking listening reading and writing My students are lucky to be bilingual and I am lucky to get to work with such great kids

I am originally from Minnesota so my students constantly have to listen to stories about going Up North or spending time in the woods or at the lake I love to travel and have visited eight different countries My husband Martin and I love to travel together and now that we have a 17 month old daughter Vivienne we are traveling more within the continental United States Our two cats Simon and Mathilda appreciate our shorter trips these days I love to play the piano and read but I am beginning to learn the joys of spending time outdoors in Colorado

Ms Chelsea Gosdin My name is Chelsea Gosdin soon to be Mrs Chelsea Schlabach I teach 7th grade math here at Lucile Erwin Middle School and I am already loving it

I enjoy the outdoors and always like to be on the go I lived and worked in the mountains for 8 years so naturally whenever I get time that is where I can be found I love to ski snowboard camp and fish I have two dogs that accompany me on all of my adventures

I look forward to growing with the students here at LEMS and having a fun year

Karen East Greetings all from the upstairs science classroom My name is Karen East and I am beginning my 28th year in public education 25 of those in the Thompson School district I am also one of the original staff members who helped open Erwin Yep Irsquove been around for a long time It can be a little depressing when students ask me if I remember having their mom or dad in my class

I am a Colorado native growing up in Canon City SO I say GO BRONCOS

I am also a very strong advocate of the IB program In my spare time I work for the IB organization training other teachers and administrators completing site visit to other IB school and I work as a consultant for IB schools that are just starting out

I also love running There isnrsquot anything better than getting in a long trail run on one of Coloradorsquos trails Irsquom thrilled to be working with our sondaughter this year

Mr Nicholas Bonnet This is my third year at Erwin as a 7th grade literacy teacher I also am an assistant director for the annual spring musical

I consider myself a native of Colorado even though I technically was born in California I was raised in Longmont Colorado and attended CSU for my teaching degree in English Education

My free time is spent on bike trails in Fort Collins in the mountains and drinking delicious coffee I also love dancing to swing music and play some guitar on the side

Morgan Baldwin High fives jazz hands fist bumps Irsquom the new 7th grade science teacher at Erwin I will also be teaching Biology at Mountain View High School in the afternoons My husband and I moved from Grand Marais MN to Fort Collins in July and it is exciting to be here I graduated from Northwestern College in 2013 with a BA in Elementary Education and an emphasis in Middle School Science and English This will be my third year teaching middle school science and I am looking forward to embarking on science adventures with you and your family Feel free to call or email with any questions or concerns Go Wildcats

Mr Tom Southard I teach 7th grade social studies or as its known in the IB world Individuals and Societies This is my 15th year at Erwin and my 23rd year of teaching Social studies is the perfect subject for me to teach as I am a firm believer that the cornerstone of a strong democracy is free public education

Outside of school I enjoy cycling mountain biking and alpine skiing My wife of 41 years and I also spend time with our horses chickens dogs and cats Ive been a Denver Bronco fan since the days of Floyd Little and Lyle Alzado

The Drama Pride class has chosen the spring musical for this year It will be PETER PAN JR Auditions will be held in the choir room during the first week of December Reminders will be on the announcements to sign up for an audition time

MESArc

MESArc is back for Season 7 and this means new challenges new products and a new set of students to take flight with The students of the MESArc program have always been working with industry leading businesses in the DIY RC Hobby this year however Flite Test has teamed up with the students to development content for episodes as well as future product development

Welcome back students and parents We hope you had a fun and active summer We started off our first weeks of PE with fitness testing Your student was tested over push-ups sit-ups mile run and sit and reach The results of the their tests will be uploaded to infinite campus along with rubrics informing students on the guidelines based upon their performance All assignments will be accompanied with rubrics based on our standard based instruction Scoring for standard based instruction will be comprised of a 1-4 scale 1=Emerging 2=Progressing 3=Meets and 4=Exemplary Please make sure your student is

coming to class prepared for physical activity This means your students is dressing out everyday with a gray t-shirtLEMS PE shirt athletic shorts and tennis shoes We are looking forward to teaching your student and having fun in PE this semester

Wildcat Bands

Erwin Wildcat Bands have been busy from the beginning of the year Over 60 of the 6th Grade Beginners participated in either the District Summer Academy of Music or in Beginner Band camp at Erwin Also for the first time Mr Massey hosted a parent informational meeting in August to introduce parents to some of the new activities happening this year in Band Finally the band students created the Band Constitution and the Band Bill of Rights Through group work discussions and voting the band students ratified a list of rules and rights that we will work under in band this year Looking ahead mark your calendars for the first concert of the year on Oct 6th On Oct 7th the 8th grade band students are invited to play along with the Loveland High School Marching Band at a home football game Check the Wildcat Bands website at httpwwwlemsmusiccombandhtml for more information or call Mr Massey at 613-7629

This past Saturday Sept 24th marked Lucile Erwinrsquos second annual 5K and largest fundraiser Congratulations to our color run finishers

Erwin Wildcat Bands have been busy from the beginning of the year Over 60 of the 6th Grade Beginners participated in either the District Summer Academy of Music or in Beginner Band camp at Erwin Also for the first time Mr Massey hosted a parent informational meeting in August to introduce parents to some of the new activities happening this year in Band Finally the band students created the Band Constitution and the Band Bill of Rights Through group work discussions and voting the band students ratified a list of rules and rights that we will work under in band this year Looking ahead mark your calendars for the first concert of the year on Oct 6th On Oct 7th the 8th grade band students are invited to play along with the Loveland High School Marching Band at a home football game Check the Wildcat Bands website at httpwwwlemsmusiccombandhtml for more information or call Mr Massey at 613-7629

Hello from eighth grade We have a bit of information to help you know what is happening with your kids at school In science students are working on scientific process skills and learning how to design investigations and will be exploring matter and physics next Math is trying a new homework system involving the online program TENMARKScom students and parents can find tutoring help there as well Students have already gotten their login information and should be getting on the site already Parents can set up an account to monitor their childs progress Individuals and society (history) is wrapping up a unit on personal finance and will be starting to study Jamestown Students are doing a novel study of The Outsiders in language and literature feel free to tune into some Elvis to get them into the time period Its been a great start and we are enjoying your kids Thank you for sending them prepared and positive

6th Grade Team

Sixth grade is off to a great start Students are settling in and becoming more comfortable with their new school In Individuals and Societies students are learning about maps and practicing their geography skills Mr Jackson and Mr Georges classes recently did a fun map activity outside at the track that students loved Students are also working on learning the different types of maps and how to use different geographic tools to solve problems This unit will last until about mid-October and afterwards students will begin learning about culture and how where you live influences how you live

We would like to introduce you to some of your students teachers for their 7th grade year In October we will profile the teachers who are not in this September edition We want to thank you for a wonderful start to the 2016-2017 school year

Ms Theresa Ann McCarthy I begin my 21st year in teaching and my 18th year at Lucile Erwin Middle School I teach 7th grade social studies and 8th grade US history I am also the Student Council adviser

I am a Boston girl who loves her Boston sports teams I am a BIG Boston Bruins Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan which I know does not make me very popular here in Bronco Country My college teams are the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and the Colorado Buffaloes

In my spare time I enjoy playing competitive softball volunteering with my college alumni groups and hanging out with my dog Rudy

I look forward to another great year Its good to be a WILDCAT

Mrs Sue Teumer I have been the GT educator at LEMS since 2005 and I am in my second year sponsoring National Junior Honor Society here During the first two thirds of my career I taught special education elementary and college students and even taught on a therapeutic farm

I am passionate about the outdoors and about animals and focuses much of her out-of-school time in these areas

Ms Linda Hewett I am entering my 29th year of teaching What Shock You dont look that oldhellip all appropriate responses to that comment I began teaching in Albuquerque New Mexico spent eight years at Mary Blair Elementary and have worked as a 7th grade MATH teacher at Erwin since it opened In my younger years my passion was playing and coaching sports especially softball Now that I am all grown up I love watching all sports and am the Athletic Director at Erwin

When I am not at school you will find me spending time with my family my friends and my dog Lucky

I love traveling the outdoors my book club my church reading my friends my family and sleeping in on the weekends I am proud to be an Erwin teacher and am excited about this year

Mrs Katie Corrigan I teach English Language Development which is a core replacement literacy course We cover all the ELA common core standards through a different curriculum and emphasize growth for English Learners in the academic language areas of speaking listening reading and writing My students are lucky to be bilingual and I am lucky to get to work with such great kids

I am originally from Minnesota so my students constantly have to listen to stories about going Up North or spending time in the woods or at the lake I love to travel and have visited eight different countries My husband Martin and I love to travel together and now that we have a 17 month old daughter Vivienne we are traveling more within the continental United States Our two cats Simon and Mathilda appreciate our shorter trips these days I love to play the piano and read but I am beginning to learn the joys of spending time outdoors in Colorado

Ms Chelsea Gosdin My name is Chelsea Gosdin soon to be Mrs Chelsea Schlabach I teach 7th grade math here at Lucile Erwin Middle School and I am already loving it

I enjoy the outdoors and always like to be on the go I lived and worked in the mountains for 8 years so naturally whenever I get time that is where I can be found I love to ski snowboard camp and fish I have two dogs that accompany me on all of my adventures

I look forward to growing with the students here at LEMS and having a fun year

Karen East Greetings all from the upstairs science classroom My name is Karen East and I am beginning my 28th year in public education 25 of those in the Thompson School district I am also one of the original staff members who helped open Erwin Yep Irsquove been around for a long time It can be a little depressing when students ask me if I remember having their mom or dad in my class

I am a Colorado native growing up in Canon City SO I say GO BRONCOS

I am also a very strong advocate of the IB program In my spare time I work for the IB organization training other teachers and administrators completing site visit to other IB school and I work as a consultant for IB schools that are just starting out

I also love running There isnrsquot anything better than getting in a long trail run on one of Coloradorsquos trails Irsquom thrilled to be working with our sondaughter this year

Mr Nicholas Bonnet This is my third year at Erwin as a 7th grade literacy teacher I also am an assistant director for the annual spring musical

I consider myself a native of Colorado even though I technically was born in California I was raised in Longmont Colorado and attended CSU for my teaching degree in English Education

My free time is spent on bike trails in Fort Collins in the mountains and drinking delicious coffee I also love dancing to swing music and play some guitar on the side

Morgan Baldwin High fives jazz hands fist bumps Irsquom the new 7th grade science teacher at Erwin I will also be teaching Biology at Mountain View High School in the afternoons My husband and I moved from Grand Marais MN to Fort Collins in July and it is exciting to be here I graduated from Northwestern College in 2013 with a BA in Elementary Education and an emphasis in Middle School Science and English This will be my third year teaching middle school science and I am looking forward to embarking on science adventures with you and your family Feel free to call or email with any questions or concerns Go Wildcats

Mr Tom Southard I teach 7th grade social studies or as its known in the IB world Individuals and Societies This is my 15th year at Erwin and my 23rd year of teaching Social studies is the perfect subject for me to teach as I am a firm believer that the cornerstone of a strong democracy is free public education

Outside of school I enjoy cycling mountain biking and alpine skiing My wife of 41 years and I also spend time with our horses chickens dogs and cats Ive been a Denver Bronco fan since the days of Floyd Little and Lyle Alzado

MESArc is back for Season 7 and this means new challenges new products and a new set of students to take flight with The students of the MESArc program have always been working with industry leading businesses in the DIY RC Hobby this year however Flite Test has teamed up with the students to development content for episodes as well as future product development

MESArc is back for Season 7 and this means new challenges new products and a new set of students to take flight with The students of the MESArc program have always been working with industry leading businesses in the DIY RC Hobby this year however Flite Test has teamed up with the students to development content for episodes as well as future product development

Erwin Wildcat Bands have been busy from the beginning of the year Over 60 of the 6th Grade Beginners participated in either the District Summer Academy of Music or in Beginner Band camp at Erwin Also for the first time Mr Massey hosted a parent informational meeting in August to introduce parents to some of the new activities happening this year in Band Finally the band students created the Band Constitution and the Band Bill of Rights Through group work discussions and voting the band students ratified a list of rules and rights that we will work under in band this year Looking ahead mark your calendars for the first concert of the year on Oct 6th On Oct 7th the 8th grade band students are invited to play along with the Loveland High School Marching Band at a home football game Check the Wildcat Bands website at httpwwwlemsmusiccombandhtml for more information or call Mr Massey at 613-7629
