Importance of iron in the elderly population

One of the assignments for the long term care rotation at Merrimack County Nursing Home was to choose a nutrition topic and put together a poster display for the residents. The topic that I was given was the importance of getting the right amount of iron in the aging population. The poster board was developed to give a brief summary of the facts for the residents, while educating them and getting them interested. Overall, the “nutrition fair” was a success and many of the residents were able to relate to the information provided. Most of them asked questions about the different foods associated with higher iron content.
