LSD Dream Emulator Mapping The Madness
MASSIVE SPOILER ALERTThis guide contains a lot of information on LSD Dream Emulator for PSX by Asmik Ace Entertainment Inc., information that can

Obligatory News Page Type Device
With enough luck, this should be the second key release of the guide. An initial version was released a long time ago, but with a Whole Day Long stream inbound, I needed to get this thing up to the standard that I honestly need it to be. And I'm not a graphical guy by any means.
As it stands, even if I did manage to get high-resolution screenshots of every entity in the game, the whole design of the thing lacks professional aesthetics. If someone knows how to make this thing look good enough to be in the manual of a videogame, I'll happily allow them access to the OpenOffice Document and let them tinker with the look of the thing.
More importantly, I do not know Japanese, and there is a lot of it in this game, from the manual to the text dreams and to the Kanji Palette. If any of you people know enough Japanese to help translate the non-English in this guide, please help. It will hopefully be of great benefit.
I think that's all. Enjoy the guide. Or at least try to.

Prologue
Hey guys, Rich here. You probably know me by the screen name of 'slowrider'. I've been lurking round these parts for a while now. Typical childhood, got my arse stomped on as a kid, all the way up to post-college (18 years old by then). I lacked a sense of maturity and was seen as strange, even by strange people themselves.
Eventually I learned that real life sucks, and by then I had gained constant internet access from University (in contrast to being at home with no wireless, and one bandwidth-greedy brother). From there I took up playing Plastic Guitar games starting with Guitar Hero III. At the current stage I have successfully landed in the category of 'competant Expert player', although my ties to ScoreHero means that this category of mine is deemed in their eyes as 'LOL URA TOAL NOOB'.
Speaking of ScoreHero I heard of them through the infamous 100% Full Combo of Through The Fire And Flames from iamchris4life, and the link to the StarPower Podcast he left in the video description. In ScoreHero, I'm not really recognised at all for actual accomplishments in a Guitar Hero or Rock Band Game (my best FC is Ace Of Spades '08 in RB2, and my personal best accomplishment is earning the 8th Wonder Achievement on Guitar Hero Greatest Hits for getting four stars on Through The Fire And Flames.). I'm more recognised as a 'community supporter' of sorts. I spent a good portion of my time watching various SH players on Ustream. I also was the person who suggested that famous Rock Band drummer Dezmond Castner (azuritereaction) should play Syobon Action 2 when he wanted to make videos of a crazy hard game. This caused the subscriber count that I had spent a whole year on building up jump from 52 to 110+.
Speaking of Dez, it was his video series of LSD Dream Emulator that brought the game to my general attention. I made a Person-In-Perspective video series of it which has gained negligable views on YouTube (as usual). As for him, he is now constantly bugged by his fans to play Syobon 2 and LSD constantly, even though he has now discovered he has phobiae that make him constantly scared to death of the Dream Emulator, despite how calm he was back in the day.
My ties to the Let's Play community are also more of the supporting type, considering I have tried LP'ing something, and I sucked really badly at it. The first LP'er I saw was *ahem* UltraJMan from his LP of I Wanna Be The Guy. No, wait, it was actually Cauchemar89 and his LP of Syobon Action 1, who mentions both J and Cloud8745 in the video (Random Fact: Cloud8745 has his own article on Encyclopedia Dramatica, and it's far from pretty). From there I went to J's streams and expanded my list of known LP'ers through the common faces who would appear at his streams, people such as romscout, PerpetualAscent, MegaGWolf, RaneOfSotN and others.I follow pretty much any and every familiar face on Ustream.
These guys have also done donation streams, and I have donated in three of them. In UltraJMan's 2009 stream, I donated for him to play anything he wanted to. In PerpetualAscent's 2010 stream, I made him play LSD Dream Emulator, and for J's 2010 stream, I figured I'd let someone else do LSD and made him play Sonic Advance 3, which actually annoyed him to my dissappointment. I think that was a good game.
That's pretty much all there is to me. If you want to get in contact with this loser, feel free to contact me on these lines.

Grasping The Ropes
LSD Dream Emulator can be thought of not as a game, but more of an experience you have in the form of a game. Released in October 22 1998 by Asmik Ace Entertainment, it is based off of a Dream Journal kept by a staff member of Asmik Ace over a period of ten years. The game itself is extremely rare and actual copies of the game are extremely expensive. So for that matter, it's probably one of the most emulated PSX games I know.
One of the main people behind LSD Dream Emulator was a man by the name of Osamu Sato of OSD (Outside Directors Company Ltd.). He has also created the OST for this game, called Lucy In The Sky With Dynamites (which as an ambient music track is actually really good), and earlier on created Eastern Mind: The Lost Souls Of Tong Nou, a point-and-click adventure for Windows 3.x which, I must say, is far more disturbing than LSD.
The game came in two forms, including a Limited Edition which included an OST (Original Sound Track) and a sub-book known as Lovely Sweet Dream, which could be a novel interpretation of the fabled Dream Journal. The Lovely Sweet Dream book is probably going to be included at the end of this guide simply for the sake of completionism.
For whatever reason LSD Dream Emulator has now been released on the Japanese PlayStation Network, or JPSN.

Overview
The infamous LSD Dream Emulator splash screen, and the start of the intro FMV, which reads 'in Linking, the Sapient Dream'.
After booting up the game, players are greeted with the Main Menu.• Selecting START will begin the current dream.• After unlocking the ability to have one, selecting FLASHBACK will cause a Flashback Sequence to play. This will not
progress the game by one day.• Selecting SAVE will bring up the Save dialog, which allows you to assign your save a name, then proceeds to save. Each
individual save takes up 1 block of memory on the Memory Card in Slot A. This saves the current day, any Flashback status, and the condition of the Dream Graph. Each game is assigned a specific slot, and you cannot duplicate saves on the same Memory Card.
• Selecting LOAD brings up the Load dialog, which allows you to select a previous save file, and allow progress from where the game was saved.
• Selecting GRAPH will bring up the Dream Graph for around 10 seconds, then returns to the Main Menu. The Dream Graph will be covered later on.
• The SHAKE toggle can be changed from On to Off and viceversa. When SHAKE is On, the main characters view will bob up and down as you move around. When SHAKE is Off, the view remains at a constant height above the ground.

Navigating The Dream
Moving around in LSD Dream Emulator is a straightforward affair. You move around with the D-Pad, and pressing Left and Right makes you turn in that direction rather than strafe as in current-generation First Person Shooters. You CAN strafe left and right with L2 and R2, but you can only strafe when you are not pressing anything on the D-Pad.
You can tilt your head down and up using the SQUARE and TRIANGLE buttons respectively. Releasing either button will cause your view to return to center on its own. Useful for getting a good angle on some entities in the game, however one or two entities can only be triggered by looking down or up at them.
When walking forwards pressing X will make your character sprint. You do not need to hold X, when you release the button you will continue sprinting until you release the ↑ Button. Sprinting gets you from place to place much faster than walking, however your character can become a little tricky to control so be careful not to accidentally bump into anything or anyone.

Linking
Although you can progress from area to area by using the area entrances and exits, it's much more convenient to randomly teleport to another area by walking into something. This is known as Linking, and is done by moving your character into a wall, object, or entity. Some entities will force you to Link even if you don't touch them.
In general, Linking is a random process and you can end up anywhere in the game world, however specific objects in each area will always link you to a certain area in the game. For example, running into the back of the Ferris Wheel in HAPPY TOWN will always take you to the Sky Bridge.
Repeatedly Linking with unimportant objects such as random walls has a tendancy to loop you through the same areas over and over. For example, you Link in Kyoto, which may take you to HAPPY TOWN. From there you may end up at the Violence District. Then The Natural World, then possibly back to Kyoto again, where the loop continues.

Ending The Dream, And The Dream Graph
Dreams end when you fall off a cliff in the dream, when you encounter specific entities in certain areas, when a certain amount of time has passed, or even at random. After the dream ends, it is rated based on the areas you saw and the music you listened to on an XY scale of Upper/Downer and Static/Dynamic. The rated dream is then positioned on the Dream Graph, which is displayed after each dream.
An empty Dream Graph, and the Dream Graph after over 100 days.
Upper and Downer is determined by a combination of the vibrancy of the colours in the visited areas and the tempo and activity in any music you listened to. Upper Dreams typically involve staying extended periods of time in HAPPY TOWN, and Downer Dreams almost always involve the Violence District.
I am not completely sure as to what dictates the positioning of the Dream in terms of it being Static or Dynamic.
Dreams when recorded are highlighted in a Flashing Red. Past Dreams are highlighted in White, and Multiple Dreams that have the same statistics as one another will cause that sector to become gradually darker with each identical Dream.
Unfortunately the game has a limited memory and is only capable of remembering the positions of the last 127 dreams. Anything older than this simply vanishes from the chart. However, this does not mean that you can trigger the Video Reel a second time if you already have done so.

The Shadow Man
The Shadow Man appears, and from the side.
The Shadow Man has a chance of appearing in dreams, and it would seem that he can appear on any day. There might be a pattern to when he can appear however. He can appear in most areas of the game, including HAPPY TOWN, The Violence District, Kyoto, The Dojo, The Spiral Tower, and The Gears Room. Fortunately, he does not appear in The Natural World (aka the overworld). He will always spawn in the direction you are facing at the distance above, and will always be walking at you. However, if you move out of his way, he will not change direction, so it is possible to view him from the side, which shows that he hunches over.
When the Shadow Man gets too close, the screen flashes white and he dissappears. He is supposed to erase certain details of your memory, as to prevent use of the Flashback feature, however dreams have occured where the option to have a Flashback has remained after encountering the Shadow Man. It is suspected that he automatically resets the positioning of your dream on the Dream Chart back to (0,0) at the current time; anything you do afterwards will shift the dream from this position.
The fact that he spawns at almost point-blank range makes it almost impossibe to evade him when you are sprinting.
There are a few ways you can guarantee movement around the level without running into him. You can move backwards, but this means you can't really see where you are going unless you use the shoulder buttons to look behind you. You can strafe. You can also sprint in a snake-like fashion across the level. The Shadow Man may still appear, but chances are the fact you are turning will allow you to evade him. You can also run while looking backwards providing your map knowledge is up to scratch. Because he spawns where you are currently looking, he'll appear right behind you instead.

Palette Swaps
...creeped out yet? You haven't seen nothing yet.
After a certain number of days have passed, Palette Swaps can occur in any level in the game world. Although they seem to have no effect on what entities can appear, they make levels completely distinctive in a new way and, in some cases, can make ordinary things extremely intimidating.
O_O
The Standard Palette: Appears from Day 001 and can always appear. The Kanji Palette: Can appear after 10 days. Japanese text will appear on almost every surface in the game. The text is
rumored to just say what the item it's written on is, but this needs to be clarified. The Downer Palette: Appears after 20 days. In general, the graphics on the walls change completely, however they all in
general appear more sinister. Also, massive eyes will start appearing in place of existing eyes and some other things. May have a Downer effect on the Dream Graph
The Upper Palette: Appears after 30 days. Characterised by bright vibrant colours and images, a good portion of them involving human faces. May have an Upper effect on the Dream Graph.
Resetter: After 40 days, the palettes reset and begin the cycle again from Day 001.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 12 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Flashback
After encountering a certain amount of in-game entities, you gain the Flashback option on the Main Menu. In a Flashback, each area you visit is a mention to an entity you visited in a past dream. You also stay in each area for around 10 seconds before you automatically warp to the next area, however you can still force warps by running into objects. Flashbacks also have some form of screen filter effect that makes the screen brighter or a shade of a colour.
The Shadow Man has the capability to erase previous memories to remove the ability to Flashback, however it isn't 100% guaranteed that he will remove the option.

The World Of LSD Dream Emulator
A crude map of The Natural World with the locations of each area hub, courtesy of MikeNnemonic.
The world of LSD Dream Emulator conists of a main hub known as The Natural World. Each of the five other areas in the game (Bright Moon Cottage, HAPPY TOWN, The Violence District, The Pit And Temple, And Kyoto) can be accessed from The Natural World by entering a tunnel in the area. These tunnels all face South. Other entities in the game are marked in the various maps in this guide, and they don't spawn consistently, which makes seeing every single thing in LSD Dream Emulator a test of your perseverence and sanity.
Each individual area in the world has a set of audio 'Patterns'. Although the music may seem completely random (particularly what sounds they use), the patterns remain and are generally easy to identify. After playing for a while it becomes possible for players to know exactly what area they have gone to simply by listening for the patterns.

Bright Moon Cottage
The map layout of the apartment, and the outside view of said building (Kanji Palette). Good to know.
Bright Moon Cottage (aka The Apartment) is recognised as the 'starting point' of LSD Dream Emulator. Your first dreams always use the Third Floor (indicated as 4-something on the map for some reason) as the place you begin any dream. Don't forget to explore the other floors and every room once in a while.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 15 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Astronaut
Location: Bright Moon Cottage, Roof
The Astronaut can be easily recognised as having appeared in Bright Moon Cottage by the very distinctive horn sound it makes. However the horn will fade as it moves away, which is immediately after the level starts. So run for the roof to be able to see this guy. You cannot Link with it unfortunately, as it is off the map.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 16 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Huge Man
Location: Bright Moon Cottage, Third Floor
This BIG guy can appear in the room right next to the little living room area with the fireplace and bookshelf. It has massive arms and a HUGE face, but no distinguishable other body parts. It's not yet known if it has a noise to indicate that it has appeared, just like the Astronaut.
When you get close enough to it, the head flies into your face and back again, forcing a Link. It has a unique sound effect when this occurs. This Link always takes you to the Violence District.
It also occurs in the room right next to the staircase on the same floor, as in, the other room. To get it to appear, you need to look right down at the floor, at which point the screen should flash black, and he not only appears right in front of you, but also moves towards you and freeze your movement, forcing you to Link to the Violence District.

The Imp
Location: Bright Moon Cottage, Third Floor
This Mini-Pterodactyl has a chance of appearing in the living room area, as soon as you turn towards the fireplace. The actual chances of it appearing are slim however. It flies straight towards you and forces a Link. Pretty scary.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 18 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Maiko Girls Book
Location: Bright Moon Cottage, Second Floor
This appears in the room right next to the stairwell. Nothing too fancy here, however the writing on the pages is massively impacted by the Palette that is in effect.

The Dying Girl
Location: Bright Moon Cottage, Second Floor
Appears in the room at the far end of the corridor. This poor soul's condition can vary depending on what day it is. Sometimes you see the sick person in the bed, and other times (like above), the person is actually dead. The bed may also be empty. It's not confirmed as to whether the condition of the bed determines what area you travel to when you Link with it.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 20 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Television
Location: Bright Moon Cottage, First Floor
Appears in the room next to the stairwell. It makes a strange sound when you look at it. It also tends to have an animated teddy bear in front of it, which will approach you look down at it. Linking with it should always take you to The Temple.

Teddy Bears
Location: Bright Moon Cottage, First Floor
Appears in the first and third closest rooms to the stairwell. They will animate when you look down at them and wander towards the stairwell. They will force a Link if they run into you. The Link tends to take you to HAPPY TOWN.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 22 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Sleeping Person
Location: Bright Moon Cottage, First Floor
Appears in the far room. There is a futon and blanket on the floor. It inflates when you look down at it and deflates when you release the SQUARE button, with some noisy breathing sounds as you do so.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 23 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Doubleheads
Location: Bright Moon Cottage, Ground Floor
These strange fellows have faces on both sides. They can appear either in the bar in the ground floor, or just outside the apartment itself. The one outside will turn around 180 degrees and proceed to run into the exit tunnel if you approach it. Has strange running behaviour where it sometimes remains stationary unless you move towards it.

Kyoto
Kyoto is probably the most confusing area of the game to navigate. The whole area is littered with buildings, so to navigate the area you are going to have to rely heavily on area landmarks such as the Tower, the Body Part Statues, the River, and pretty much anything else that looks unique.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 25 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Kyoto Beast
Location: Kyoto, Near Kyoto Tower
This abomination approaches from a good distance outside of the map towards Kyoto, and takes a good 30 seconds or so to appear inside the map. When it does,. It has no visible feet: the legs simply fade out at the bottom, leading to speculation that is in face a Japanese Ghost of sorts. Of course, the fact that it is missing feet means that you cannot Link with it.
There is specualtion that this giant and the Abyss Demon in The Natural World are the same entity.

Geisha Girls
Location: Kyoto, Along The River, Near The Monument Park
These small (and sometimes giant) women wander around slowly. Their sandals make a distinctive sound as they walk. Linking with a Geisha Girl generally causes you to warp to The Dojo.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 27 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Buddha Men
Location: Kyoto, In Town.
These guys wander the streets randomly. They make a lot of noise as they walk, their walking sounds identical to your own. They also move pretty fast. They look like statues for some reason. Linking with them tends to take you to The Pit.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 28 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Minotaurs
Location: Kyoto, NE Corner, Various Other
These guys randomly walk slowly around certain areas of the map. Unlike the other roaming entities they tend to not make much noise (with the exception of the one towing the cart). Linking with the cartless minotaur tends to reposition you in Kyoto, and Linking with the carted minotaur will take you to the Natural World.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 29 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The River Boat
Location: Kyoto, The River
Sometimes appears, sailing slowly down the river. The person rowing the boat is a Buddha Man. Because it's river-bound, you cannot Link with it.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 30 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Giant Head
Location: Kyoto, Next To The Monument Park Entrance
Freakiest thing in Kyoto? When you draw yourself close enough to it, it instantly faces you and opens its mouth, revealing a Japanese character of some form. After it does this it flies into the sky and vanishes. It's not actually connected to the wall for some bizarre reason. The mole under its lips is completely identical to that of the Huge Man in Bright Moon Cottage.

The Drums
Location: Kyoto, SW Corner Near The Small Huts
More of a landmark than an actual entity, however the drumsticks alongside it are animated and cause a racket even when you aren't that close to it.

The Old Woman
Location: Kyoto, By The River, Monument Park End.
A peculiar entity that is known to appear in two areas: inside a building, and on a balcony along the river. When you approach her when she is in the building, you will typically warp to another part of Kyoto. As for when she is on the balcony, walking past her may cause you to either teleport right next to her or stretch the dimensions of Kyoto itself to make everything appear taller.

Pool Men
Location: Kyoto, In Pools Near The Dojo Entrance
These things can appear either under the water or floating on the surface of said water. In both cases, the fact that they are in the boundaries of the pool means you cannot Link with them.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 34 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Peacocks
Location: Kyoto, In Front Of The Dojo Entrance
They either appear as a single entity, or as a group of five spanning a good portion of the entrance. When you get close enough, they start to animate, and their tail feathers repeatedly start opening up, while constantly looking at you. The tails have a large hitbox, so trying to run past as the feathers reopen is probably going to get you teleported.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 35 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Dogs
Location: Kyoto, By The Dog Statues.
They don't appear too often. They can either be running across the roads around the statues, or flying through the air. Seriously. You should be able to Link with the dogs that are bound to running on the ground.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 36 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Tengus
Location: Kyoto, Along The Boundaries
These things fall from the sky and start running straight ahead. They make one hell of a distinctive wooden-sounding racket, so you can hear them from at least a 5-second sprint away. They'll force a Link if they crash into you. That Link will consistently take you to the Endless Corridor.

Runs around on its knees in a similar fashion to the Tengus. It appears to be carrying a tray and glass of some form. Not too much is known about it at the moment.

Celestial Maiden
Location: Kyoto, On The Archway Path
This mysterious person floats down from the sky, and tends to float back into the sky if you draw closer to it. It doesn't seem that Linking with it is possible as even when moving at full speed it rises out of your reach before you get close enough.

HAPPY TOWN
Full of vibrant colors and equally vibrant music, you wouldn't think of HAPPY TOWN as a, well, happy place, more of a freakish place. Has the dreaded floor tiles that sound like strangled mice. Being in this place generally has a positive effect on the dreams outcome on the Graph.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 40 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Teddy And Bunny
Location: HAPPY TOWN, In The Courtyard
They will appear randomly in this closed-off area and dance around. Sometimes the dancing will become extremely erratic. By the way, there is writing on the ground in the courtyard written in purple blocks, and it reads SEX. I'm not even kidding. There's other writing on the ground in other areas in HAPPY TOWN, such as HAPPY TOWN and SKY I believe.

Marching Soldiers
Location: HAPPY TOWN, Near The Ferris Wheel?
Most of HAPPY TOWN is literally empty, so trying to place an exact location on anything is rather difficult. These things always march back and forth in a group of four. Nothing too spectacular, although Linking with them consistently takes you to the Monument Park in Kyoto.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 42 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Trumpet Parade
Location: HAPPY TOWN, Outside The Castle
They often appear in the stands in front of the Castle entrance, and make a distictive (but quickly annoying) trumpet call of sorts when you draw close. They most often appear as six individual trumpeteers, so when all six get going with their horns, the end result is a little, um, strange. They are in the stands, so you cannot Link with them unfortunately.

Prince And Princess
Location: HAPPY TOWN, Inside The Castle
This happy couple will dance around in their little throne room. Unfortunately you cannot Link with them and you'll run right through them.

Surfing Penguins
Location: HAPPY TOWN, Near The Water
They fly around the ground on their stomachs. Nothing too impressive, however trying to catch up to them can be relatively difficult.

Tie Dye Penguins
Location: HAPPY TOWN, By The Question Mark
These fellows appear in the little fenced-off area and waddle around. Sometimes GIANT penguins can appear though. You can Link with them, however it's a little touchy, particularly with the BIG penguin. However, Linking will simply put you back in HAPPY TOWN.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 46 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Mushrooms
Location: HAPPY TOWN, Unknown Corner
These purple things appear and rotate, fluctuate, and make funny noises. Sometimes their dimensions will be massively screwed-up. Linking with them simply dumps you back in the same area.

The Train
Location: HAPPY TOWN, The Train Tracks
This thing has a horrific paint scheme and drives around, bound by the tracks it rides on. When you get near the tunnel at the edge of HAPPY TOWN where the tracks go, you may hear a train chime, which means the train is probably going to come out of the tunnel and flatten you (er, I meant Link you, whatever...). In any case, all Links with the train should take you to the Gears Room in the Violence District. The train is strange in that it can Link you even if you're only watching it go by from close range. These different methods of Linking with the train yield different results in where you travel to next.

The Ferris Wheel
Location: HAPPY TOWN, Near The Floating Sun.
Sometimes the ferris wheel compartments are missing leaving just the chassis. Linking with the chassis will almost always take you to the Sky Bridge. Touching the compartments will cause the Ferris Wheel FMV Finisher to play.

The Giant Lips
Location: HAPPY TOWN, Near The Question Mark
Freakiest thing in HAPPY TOWN by MILES. Probably scarier than everything else in the game actually, at least from my experience. It will appear at literally POINT-BLANK range, closer to you than the Shadow Man. It will then home in on your position, making horrific kissing sounds and animatons. You cannot Link with it immediately as it spawns, but you can do so afterwards.

Flowers
Location: HAPPY TOWN, Near The Castle?
Even I don't know exactly where the hell these things spawn. They appear at point blank range just like the Shadow Man. Also can come in a GIANT form. They also have mouths, and will also be constantly looking directly at you so you cannot approach them from behind..

Giant Person
Location: HAPPY TOWN, Near or On This Statue
Giant lower bodies with polygon heads (like the Ghosts in the Violence District) and floating white glove hands. You cannot Link with them as you'll pass right through them. For the record it took me 140+ game days to see these guys for the first time. Therefore, it may not be known whether they and some other entities will refuse to spawn until your Day Counter is high enough, or whether I had neglected their spawn point for such a long time.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 52 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Violence District
Darkest, creepiest area in the game. Always has a massively negative effect on the positioning in the Dream Graph. This area tends to have a higher chance of no music.

Corpses
Location: Violence Distict, By Or On The Main Road
These poor souls litter the ground in a pool of blood. How nice.

The Headless Girl
Location: Violence District, Near The End Of The Road
Appears with a head, until you draw close enough, then it literally falls off and she wanders towards you and falls down, forcing a Link. You freeze when this happens, so it is essentially unavoidable. Also known to appear right in front of the Violence District exit, so entering from the Natural World may be a bad idea.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 55 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Suicide Car
Location: Violence Districe, End Of The Road, Ocean Side
"CAR! WHEEEEEEEE!" -MegaGWolf
Appears with the sound of a loud car horn, it speeds across the road and literally flies into the air and lands in the water with a huge splash. It's not yet known if you can Link with it, however the main character simply walks right through all other cars in the Violence District, so it's most likely impossible.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 56 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Lynched People
Location: Violence District, Lamp Posts
Appear at complete random. They do so suddenly, and at close range. Also, it causes your character to freeze momentarily. Pretty intimidating.
MikeNnemonic ran into a Lynched Person, however instead of the person dying, it lowered to the ground and directly approached him, forcing a Link to the same area.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 57 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Shadow Soldier
Location: Violence District, Warehouse #2
Assuming you are counting the warehouses from left-to-right, that is. This Darth Vader type guy appears NEAR the warehouse but most commonly in it. If you draw too close to him he approaches you, then shoots you, causing your view to keel over. Then you get Linked. Did I forget to mention that you freeze when he does this so you can't avoid it?
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 58 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Ghosts
Location: Violence District, Warehouses #3 and #4
Appearing at close range, and at complete random. Ghosts with rotating polygons for heads and no body parts below the torso, they drag themselves across the ground with their arms. Getting too close to them will cause you to freeze. They are also the cause of one of the FMV Finishers in this area, however how it is triggered is not completely confirmed yet.
MikeNnemonic witnessed a Giant Ghost in Warehouse #3, as have I at some point. The Ghosts have also triggered a Level Compression just before the FMV Finsiher, where the roof of the warehouse seems to collapse down on the player.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 59 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Dumpster
Location: Violence District, SW Corner
Contains assorted body parts. Not nice, huh? It's not a solid entity, so you cannot Link with it.

The Spaceship
Location: Violence District, SW Corner Alleyways
Quite a hard find, actually. Appears in the longest alleyway and flies over to the other side, where it suddenly vanishes. Cannot Link with it due to it's airborne nature.

Graffiti
Location: Violence District, Various
Inanimate entities scattered through the NE Corner of the area. Linking with them always takes you into the Gears Room. A few other things in this area such as the crane by the construction hole also take you to the Gears Room.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 62 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Aeroplane
Location: Violence District, Waterfront
It has a good chance of appearing when the sailor is at the waterfront. Looking towards the sea, it may appear. When it does, it typically crashes into the water causing a red flash. Most of the time this also triggers the Aeroplane FMV Finisher. However this doesn't always happen and weird things (like above) can happen, where it flies into the sky while facing downwards.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 63 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Sailor
Location: Violence District, Waterfront
He overlooks the ocean, simply standing there. When you get too close to him he dissappears, hinting he may actually be a ghost. Linking is not possible due to his vanishing nature.

Murder In Progress
Location: Violence District, Down A Side-Alley

Dancing Girl
Location: Violence District, Between The Big Buildings by the Hopscotch floor tile.
In contrast to the other people you see here, this person is somewhat content for whatever reason. Extremely little is known about this entity, as I have only encountered it the one time (with a dimensions modifier) and not seen other footage of it.

The Imp
Location: The Pit, Pit Exit Side
Appears at point blank range with one hell of a screeching sound that'll scare you the first time. And maybe the second. I don't think you can Link with it as it quickly takes to the air and flies around in circles.

The Giant Pink Elephant
Location: The Pit, Above The Pit
This may as well be the mascot for LSD Dream Emulator, as it's the most prominent and memorable entity in the whole game, as well as the easiest one to find. It'll appear just above the pit and float towards the heavens. Linking with it is impossible as you'll fall into the pit before you could reach it.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 69 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
The Three Pink Elephants
Location: The Pit, Pit Exit Side
Appears at long range in contrast to the pterodactyl-type-thing that appears in the same exact area. These smaller elephants will waddle towards the pit. They will float across the pit if left long enough, instead of simply falling down it. Linking with them just resets you back in The Pit again.

The Natural World
...Yes, this map is accurate.
The largest area in the game by a country mile. This area may as well be a few square miles big, as it takes minutes to navigate. Not too much happens in this grassy domain unfortunately, as it's mostly empty space. As for navigating via landmarks:
• The NW Corner of the map is covered in sand.• The NNW area is mountainous.• The ground in the NE Corner is littered with random crevaces, making it hard to navigate.• The southern half of the map is littered with bridges and many rivers. You can safely walk across most of these rivers
without causing a Link to occur.

Lions
One second later, my dream was ended. And so was my head.
Location: The Natural World, Near The HAPPY TOWN Hub
They come in pairs and wander around. You cannot 'Link' with them per-se. If you get the chance to run into them you'll simply be pushed back. HOWEVER, you can trigger them to react, which results in you getting eaten, and the dream ends right there. It may also cause a memory-erasive effect similar to the Shadow Man, however this needs to be proven.

The Giant Turtle
Location: The Natural World, Near The Pit And Temple Entrance
Moves around slowly, and is pretty huge at long range. However it'll shrink with a weird sound if you get close enough to it.

The Shark Fin
Location: The Natural World, The River By The Pit And Temple Entrance
Sails around in the strangely small river. The shark must have some weird body proportions to swim around in that body of water.

Giant Fish
Location: The Natural World, Southern Water Area
The graphics for these guys are pretty glitchy. However at times you will see an absolutely GIGANTIC floating fish in the air. You can somehow Link with it as well.

Rainbows
Location: The Natural World, By A Random Waterfall
DOUBLE RAINBOW ALL THE WAY. Floats in the air above a waterfall. You can't Link, however if you run off the waterfall while holding TRIANGLE to look up at the rainbows, you may somehow appear on the other side of the ground, totally not falling into the crevace in the process.

Horses
Location: The Natural World, Bright Moon Cottage Entrance
Probably the first thing you'll see when you leave BMC. They run really, really fast, so don't count on catching up to them. When they run into a hole in the ground, they will simply warp across to the other side. It's not known if you can Link with them as they are extremely hard to keep up with.

The Missile Silo
Location: The Natural World, SSW Corner?
A hole in the ground. When approached, a warning siren sounds, and the missile slowly lifts from the ground, then accelerates quickly into the sky. You can't Link with the missile as you'll just end up falling into the silo ending the dream.

Hot Air Balloons
Location: The Natural World, NE Corner?
Their presence is hinted by wind sounds in the area. Looking down into the crevaces below will cause them to spawn. They rise from the cliffs and into the air, typically in a group of about three balloons.

The Father And Daughter
Location: The Natural World, SE Corner
Isolated from the mainland by a bridge, this lonely silhouette lies. However, the Abyss Demon is in the same exact area, so trying to approach them may cause it to appear, forcing a Link and scaring the living daylights out of anyone who wasn't expecting it.

"WHA, OH MY GOD! WHAT THE FUCK! OH MY GOD!""...What are you- HOLY SHI-HIT!" - MegaGWolf and RizuKomesu
This should be the mascot for LSD Dream Emulator instead of that wussy pink elephant. It'll randomly appear at edges of the land where you can see the Father and Daughter, as well as the Floating Castle. When it spawns, you hear a creaking sound, freeze in position, and then Link almost instantly.
For those of you who want the easiest way to find this entity, leave Kyoto through the main gate and follow the cliffside to the left. You should spot the Map in the SE corner within 20-30 seconds, and then the corner with this, the Floating Castle and the Father + Daughter a moment later.

UFOs

The Giant Flower
Location: The Natural World, Somewhere In The Desert
I'm not sure exactly what this thing is. It lies on the ground, almost like a lily pad or something, with its petals folded in the air. It then opens them outwards and, after a moment, dissappears into the sand.

The Void
The entrance for this small sub-area is located in the north of the Natural World. In a mountainous area, there is a floating window. Approaching it causes it to open, forcing a Link into The Void, which consists of floating cubes, and not much else. Exiting via the tunnel puts you back at the window in the Natural World.

The Hoop Girl

Very little to say, other than this seems to be the only entity in The Void. However, with all the black and white, and the nature of a girl pushing a hoop around with a stick, maybe The Void is infact some kind of timewarp.

The Endless Corridor
You access the Endless Corridor through the above wall on the Second Floor of Bright Moon Cottage. It consists of a very long hallway with loads of doors. At the end is a notch that opens up when approached. It will then either make you leave through the hole (typically into the Natural World), or make you fall all the way back down the corridor.

Unorthodox Dreams
Now don't get me wrong, this game is far from normal. However it can generate dreams that differ from their regular pattern of navigating the dream world, instead opting for a wall of text or a video.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 102 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
Text Based Dreams
Sometimes, dreams can simply take the form of a wall of text that remains for around ten seconds before going straight to the Dream Graph. Text Dreams are always positioned at (0,0) on the Graph, and have a tendancy to cause your next dream to start back at Bright Moon Cottage 3F. A translation for these dreams would probably lend a great deal of insight into the mindset of the person who helped make the game. Looking into the graphics files for the game has revealed 40 individual text dreams.

FMV Finishers
Certain in-game entities will cause an FMV to play when triggered. These end the dream there and then. There are a few FMV Finishers in LSD, including:
• Looking at the structure in the Gears Room• Looking at the ghosts in Warehouse #4• Riding the Ferris Wheel.• Witnessing the aeroplane at the docks.• Ending Day 365, aka 'The Real End'.
LSD Dream Emulator – Mapping The Madness - 14:18:18, 24/07/11 - Page 104 of 357 - slowriderxcorps©
FMV Dreams
Dreams can also come in the form of a video. Like Text Dreams, they will be positioned at (0,0) on the Dream Graph when the video stops playing.
Do not confuse these with the videos that play if you idle at the Main Menu for too long (the ones which generally mention the various different meanings for the acronym LSD). Those videos will not advance the game by one Day when played, and the Dream Chart positioning it mentions afterwards relates to your last actual dream.

Video Reel #1
By having specific combinations of dreams, the Video Reel can be triggered. The Video Reel is simply a specific sequence of FMV Dreams that will play back-to-back immediately after a dream that completes the reels criteria. The reel cannot be skipped by button presses either, and it lasts more than ten minutes. Once the reel finishes it will return you to the Main Menu.
It is unconfirmed as to whether triggering the Video Reel will cause additional entities or effects to come into play in certain areas of the game.
It is also unconfirmed as to if there are more than one Video Reel to trigger in the game, as there are other FMV Dreams that do not use the videos that are in the reel.
The combination of dreams required to trigger the first reel are:
• (0,0) Dead center.• (1,1) One Upper, One Dynamic• (-1,1) One Upper, One Static• (0,-3) Three Downer.

The End?
Unbelievable as it may seem, there is a video file on the disc that hints that LSD Dream Emulator actually ends at some point. For the longest time there were many speculations as to when and how LSD would end, including:
• Finishing Day 999 (CaptainJingles's theory, as the Day Counter only has room for three digits.)• Completing the entire Dream Chart (The theory for most people in the Let's Play Community. This seems extremely
unlikely, however. There are 192 [361] possible combinations of dreams obtainable on the Graph, and the chances of acquiring every combination before Day 999 are as close as you dare to impossible due to the inevitable number of identical dreams, especially zero-zero dreams. EDIT: This has been almost proved to be impossible due to the limited memory of the Dream Graph.)
• Obtaining all the Video Reels (My personal theory, however I am still wondering as to the next Dream Combo that triggers the next reel.)
Finally, on October 17 2010 a random person on YouTube by the name of "ABadAnimator" discovered that the final FMV in the game is triggered right at the end of Day 365. A whole game year. In all honesty it was so obvious I suspect nobody ever considered it. When Day 365 ends, you view the final video and are returned to the main menu. You don't even get to see the Dream Chart for that dream. Your Day counter is reset to 001, but your Flashback and Dream Chart progress are retained.
So, in fact, it never really ends...

Epilogue
I would like to thank the following people for passively aiding my insight into LSD Dream Emulator.
• Dezmond Castner, aka azuritereaction , for introducing me and the other +100000 subscribers of his to the game.• Elliott Law, aka MegaGWolf , for reintroducing LSD Dream Emulator to my eyes after a hiatus, and also for running into
the Abyss Demon. And also for triggering Video Reel #1.• Michael Rice, aka MikeNnemonic , for being the main LP'er to do some serious research into the game, and for archiving
a lot of information.• Some random Japanese LSD Fan-Site with a TON of information, for being the only other place that could be bothered
making sense of this game.• ABadAnimator from YouTube, for figuring out how the game ends.• TheUberElite , for additional information.• Anyone who would like to help me with any translation of japanese text in the guide, from the Text Dreams to the writing
in the screenshots of the game manual, to the writing on the walls in the Kanji Palette.
And now... Lovely Sweet Dream. All 198 Pages of it. Enjoy. Some of it IS in English, thankfully.
Actually, just before that, I'll dump all of the graphics of the game into as many pages as I see fir just before Lovely Sweet Dream. For your viewing displeasure.
Just for the record, the filenames for these images were rather disorganised, and images for the same items in the different palettes did not always share the same number identity.
It should also be noted that one texture from the Violence District Upper and the Void Upper are unaccounted for. This is strange, and needs to be looked into as the files were straight from the texture ripper.
