    Lesson:Six of a kind.Textbook: Snapshot Starter

    Aims:to expand students vocabulary and awareness of family-related termsto familiarise students with understanding a text in English

    Objectives:

    By the end of the lesson the students:

    will have learnt new vocabulary related to family will have practice reading for detailed comprehension will have practiced speaking about a family member or their best friend

    Skills: speaking, reading, listening

    Methods: question-answer, conversation, group work

    Previous knowledge:

    Students can read a text in English and identify specific information.Anticipated problems:

    Students may have problems in understanding a longer text in English.Teaching materials: textbook, blackboard, CD player

    Lesson Stages:

    Activity 1: Warm UpAims: to set the students in the right mood for starting the lessonSkill focus: speakingTiming: 5 min.

    Procedure:

    T greets the Ss and marks the absents.

    T asks the Ss to read their homework. (ex. 8, 9/ p. 59 in their textbooks)

    Activity 2: Lead-inAims: to encourage students to express their ideas

    Skill focus: speakingTiming: 10 min.Procedure: T asks Ss if they have twins or triplets in their family. T asks students

    what they call it when there are four (quads/ quadruplets), five (quins/ quintuplets)and six (sextuplets). T asks Ss to look at the picture of sextuplets and guess in what

    ways the girls are the same or different.

    Ss write down everything they know in small groups, then tell their information to

    the class.

    T writes the title of the new lesson on the blackboard: Six of a kind.

    Activity 3: Introducing the new topic

    Aims: to create interest in the new topicto allow students to have an in-depth reading of a text in English

    Skill focus: reading, writingTiming: 10 min.

    Procedure: Ss read the text. T elicits the new vocabulary. The, T asks Ss to look at

    exercise 1a/ p. 61. Students read the questions in turns and try to give the correctanswer, according to the text. Then T asks Ss to match the descriptions in ex. 1b/ p.61 to the people in the text. Ss do the task, then T checks the answers with the

    entire class.

    Activity 4: Listening ActivityAims: to enable students to listen for specific information

    Skill focus: listeningTiming: 10 minutes

    Procedure:

    T tells Ss to look at exercise 3 on page 61: they will have to listen to an interview

    with a mother of twins and then decide whether the sentences given are true or

    false. Ss read the sentences first, then T plays the tape. T elicits the answers from

    the whole class.

    Activity 5: Speaking Activity

    Aims: to allow students to express their opinions about their families

    Skill focus: speaking

    Timing: 10 minutesProcedure: T asks Ss to think of a member of their family or of their best friend

    and to write a short description of that person. Ss will have to include: height,colour hair, colour eyes, but also the likes and dislikes of that member of the

    family or friend.

    Activity 6: Homework Assignment (ex. 4/ p. 61)
