Principal: Sally Wright Deputy Principal: Bernie Lipman Governing Council Chairperson: Donna Felder
We have had another few weeks full of activity at Loxton Primary School. Our students
and teachers have been enthusiastic about their approach to NAPLAN online, which
began last week. We did have some connectivity issues, due to technical difficulties at
the National Test Authority, mainly on the first day of testing, which for us was Year 5
and Year 7 writing. The remainder of the tests however have run relatively smoothly.
The feedback from the students regarding the online platform of testing has been
reasonably positive. Despite any challenges, we have worked to minimise the
disruption to students as much as possible. I must thank our teachers, Bernie Lipman
and Daryn Piltz, our IT Technician, for their work during NAPLAN.
Teachers have ensured that students have been calm and well prepared for the
testing. Bernie's organisation of the tests ensured that timetables for all students and
classes were impacted as little as possible, and Daryn has ensured that any glitches
were rectified as soon as possible. We are very fortunate to have his expertise onsite.
Monday saw 10 of our students participate in the State Athletics Carnival in Adelaide.
We would like to congratulate all participants, who represented Loxton Primary School,
and the Riverland, with pride. We were thrilled to hear that Cameron Rankine, Summer
Smith, Tyler Hucks, Noah Paull and Jonty Koehne all received medals in various events.
This is a fabulous effort at the State level, and also a credit to Mr Kruger's athletics
program.
Yesterday, we had 22 students represent Loxton Primary School in the SAPSASA Cross
Country event held at Martin's Bend in Berri. From that event, we had Robbie Tripp, Jett
Dahlitz and Zach Huddleston who all came in the top 3 of their division. They have
been selected in the Riverland team to travel to Oakbank, along with Saskia Gibbs,
Lana Jaeshcke and Ethan Lawson. We wish them all the best as they train and prepare
for this event.
We have two students who are leading sessions at the STEM Congress, to be held at
the Adelaide Convention Centre shortly. Aaron Schneider and Cameron Rankine are
leading the session on 'Lasers: Light Up Your Life!'. The students will run a workshop on
how lasers are currently used, and how they will be used in the future. We are also
excited to have several students representing Loxton Primary at the Congress. Thank
you Merylyn Rowe for your support of the students attending the conference.
We are excited to welcome four Preservice Teachers to Loxton Primary School
throughout the term. We have Sharna Linke working in 7JC, Georgia Stephens working
in 7MC, Emily Schultz working with 4NA and Kayla Fielke supporting 1WT. As a site, we
are committed to supporting preservice teachers in their journey of development as
they work towards becoming a graduate teacher. We value the input of our skilled
teachers as they support the growth of preservice teachers in their classrooms. We
view this partnership as being mutually beneficial, as our staff and students have
access to the latest information being shared from our universities. We know our
community will welcome our preservice teachers into our classes and our school.

LPS HAPPENINGS
On Friday the 17th of May around 100 Loxton Primary Students and
parents/carers walked to school from the Loxton Football Oval for the
annual Walk Safely to School Day. The weather was great for being
active and It was a fantastic way to start the day. A big thank you to Mr
Kruger for leading the way and to the Loxton Police for helping to get
our students safely school.
On Monday, the 20th of May, a group
of students from our school and from
schools around the Riverland represent-
ed the Riverland in SAPSASA Athletics
at Santos Stadium. The event ran from
8.30 to 3pm. Out of the country
category, the Riverland came 3rd out
of 21 teams form around the state. Great job to everyone
who participated, there were a lot of fantastic results, PBs and medals.

BABY LOVE Did you hear? There is a new Royal baby. There has been months of speculation in the tabloids about whether
Meghan was pregnant. Then when it was confirmed that she was pregnant - Would she have twins? What
gender would the baby be? When would it actually arrive? What will they name the baby? One of the news
video’s that I saw showed Prince Harry absolutely beaming with pride at the birth of his son. There was also a
sense of awe and wonder and even disbelief from him about this whole birth process. He said “It has been the
most amazing experience that I could possibly even imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond
comprehension!” He also said “This little thing is absolutely to die for, I am absolutely over the moon."
Entering into the role of being a parent is often very exciting and awe inspiring as evidenced by Prince Harry, but
for most of us there is also an amount of anxiety and worry about how we will perform as parents. Part of the
problem with parenting is that it is a very subjective thing. Harry and Meghan have reportedly said that they
want their child to grow up as normal as possible. To the average parent though the new royal baby will have
anything but a ‘normal’ upbringing.
When we lived in Adelaide we had some friends who had come from an Asian country to live in Australia. Our
friend said that when her mother visited from overseas (and she would often stay for many months at a time),
she would be critical of her because she didn’t do enough for her children. She would expect that her
grandchildren shouldn’t need to dress themselves or clean up after themselves, even though they were primary
school age. In their culture it was normal for the parent to do a lot for their child. On the flip side, my friend said
that her Australian friends would be quite amazed at how much she did do for her children because they
expected her to be more hands off like them. What one culture thought was ‘normal’ was certainly not normal
to another culture.
Author Ann Voskamp shared some of her thoughts about parenting in a post on Mother's Day. She said that as a
parent "You don't have to know how to do it all. You just have to choose to be all here , right where you are."
She also said "It's the work of every mother to try to give her child the best she can - and the work of every child
to forgive her mother however she can." I think these
quotes signify that sometimes parenting can be very
hard work. The awe, wonder and excitement wear off
pretty quickly when the reality of sleepless nights,
tantruming toddlers, and defiant teenagers sets in. As
parents we won't always get it right and it can get diffi-
cult to see the wonder and beauty in our child when we
are tired and worn out - even though we still love them
immensely.
So what is the trick to surviving this parenting thing? I think
staying positive and 'in love' with our children is vitally
important. Ann Voskamp also said "Life doesn't have to
be the good we expect it to be - for us to accept the
good that it is." Recently I was looking at some baby
photos of one of our children. I found then, as I have in
the past, that looking at baby photos takes me back to
that moment when I first met my baby and feel in love.
Seeing that innocent little child seems to help the muck
and struggle of the present day fall away, and allow love
and positivity to rise.
There is much more to parenting that we could discuss
but time and space prohibit, so for now I will leave you
with a thought from Parenting Coach Sue Atkins, "There
is no such thing as a perfect parent. So just be a real
one." May you be Blessed as you continue to parent your
precious ones.
