DATES Good News Term 4 Week 7
Loxton Lutheran School
This term the Year 1/2 class have been learning about the purposes of a
Christian community. We’ve discovered that a Christian community:
Serves other people
Praises God through song
Meets in a church/house/school/outdoors for worship and prayer
Knows what the Bible says
Spreads the good news of Jesus as Lord and Saviour
As a practical way of spreading the good news, the Year 1/2 class headed to
the Wait A Moment radio studios to record some spots for airplay on 100.7
LIFE FM. There were a range of responses but one thing really stood out to
me – We are so blessed with opportunities to spread the good news of Jesus,
and can do so, without fear of persecution or death.
Imagine what Christians in Europe are feeling after the events in Paris last
week. The only fear that often stops us from spreading the good news is the
fear of being ridiculed by our peers or colleagues.
Recently, the children skyped a group of children from New Zealand to learn
more about the Christmas traditions of their country. I was so proud of one
child when she mentioned Jesus as the reason for the season. The school was
a public school, and just maybe, hadn’t even heard of Jesus. What a powerful
witness!
I pray that you see an opportunity to spread the good news of Jesus in the
coming week, month or year, especially at
Christmas.
God bless you all,

The children will be transported to and from the pool by school bus. Thank-you to Peter Sheffield, Rose Jaeschke, Rachel Pontt and Sally Searles for volunteering as bus drivers for the week.
Year 7 Canberra
The Year 7 students, as well as the accompanying teachers and parents, now only have one week until they leave for the annual Canberra Trip next Sunday November 29th.
We hope all attending the trip have a wonderful time filled with memories that will stay with them for many years to come.
Annual Parent Survey
The Annual Parent Survey is currently ‘live’ in an online format. This survey was launched on Wednesday November 11th and parents are reminded that they have until the close of business on Friday November 27th to participate. Reminders to complete the survey have been sent to parent email addresses the school has on file on file.
Parents with no email addresses are able to access the survey through a web-link
https://www.research.net/r/Loxton2015parent
We thank you for your participation and feedback regarding the items listed in the survey.
Elections of 2016 Captains and Vice-captains
For many years now, the elections for the Captains and Vice-captains for the following school year have been conducted on the Friday of the week that the Year 7 students are away in Canberra.
This will again be the situation, meaning that
Dear Parents,
Special Announcement Regarding 2016 Teaching Staff
There has recently been a change to the 2016 teaching staff announced earlier in the term. Rachacia Doecke, who had accepted the 0.4 PE/Health specialist position previously held by Rebecca Loxton, is no longer able to take up the position.
Joanne Hondow, whose previous teaching experience has been at St Albert’s Loxton, has accepted the position, which at this stage is a 12 month contract.
Joanne is well credentialed and highly regarded, and we are very blessed to have her as a member of our staff for 2016.
Year 7/8 Transition
This Wednesday, November 25th, Year 7 students will be spending the day at Loxton High School as a part of their Year 7/8 transition program. This will be the second and final transition day these students will attend.
Smart-Start Financial Literacy

Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons for children in Reception to Year 5 commence this week at the Loxton Pool.
As was the case last year, these lessons are being managed by School Councillor and parent Paula Nitschke and her team of instructors who run an excellent program.

End Of Year Service
The annual End Of Year Service is a celebration of the year that has gone before. It is also an opportunity to honour and farewell our Year 7 students, as well as any families who will be leaving our school community.

ELC News By Rachel Hentschke
Dear Parents,
Only three weeks left of this term, which will be jam-packed full of Christmas fun! The children will be learning about Jesus' birth, crafts, role-playing and baking.
Over the next fortnight we will continue our work on Body Safety. So far we have discussed and
drawn feeling safe and who our "safety helpers" are (people the children identify as someone that will always listen to them and believe them.)
This week we will be exploring how our bodies react if we feel unsafe. Next week we will be sharing a book with the children called "Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept" by Jayneen Sanders. We encourage parents to view this book on YouTube - just type in Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept read by Debra Byrne. The synopsis is as follows:
"Sir Alfred has a terrible secret. A secret that should never ever be kept. But who will poor Arthur tell? Who can he trust?
We also have the book available for you to view at the ELC.
ELC students 2016
We want the ELC to feel homely and welcoming. If your child is continuing with us at the ELC next year, please send along a family photo for us to frame and display.

Library News By Margaret Wormald
Returning Library Books
The return date for all student loans is Friday 27 November.
This is so we can do our annual stock-take.
It would be greatly appreciated if you would help remind your children to
return their books, especially those long-term overdue items.
Thank you.
Premier’s Reading Challenge Awards Presentation
We are so proud of all the children! Almost all the children have completed the Challenge—what
an achievement! Certificates and medals will be presented to the students at a special assembly in
Week 9 on Wednesday 9th December at 2:30. The special guest presenter will be Jenny Patching,
who was the much loved Teacher/Librarian at LLS for many years.
Former Students Library
Each year, a number of Year 7 students and their families, decide to donate a book to the school
library as a reminder of their years at Loxton Lutheran School. This year the students, who have
kindly donated a book, will present the books to the school as part of the Premier’s Reading
Challenge assembly on Wednesday 9th December. We sincerely thank those families who have
contributed to the Former Students Library and we know that students for many years will enjoy
reading the books that the 2015 Year 7s have selected and donated.
Book Club reminder
Brochures for the final issue of Scholastic Book Club for the year, Issue 8, went out last week.
Orders need to be placed by this Friday November 27.
Loxton Community Carols
We will be participating again as a Choir in the Loxton Community Carols, to be
held this year on Sunday December 13 from 7:45 pm in East Terrace by the
Rotunda (or at the Peace Hall if the weather is inclement). Thank you to all of
those children who have put their names down to be a part of this choir. We will
begin practices next week, during school time.
