“His love endures forever.” By Pastor Josh

Opening the building to worship to-

gether in July has been such a joy.

Seeing the smile in people’s eyes (because they have masks on), hearing

the voices of my church family and

worshipping in the same room is a

blessing. This month has reminded

me that though we are restricted,

God is not. The Holy Spirit is not

limited in leading us in worship.

We are restricted in singing together;

however, we are not restricted in

worshipping together. As many of

you know, instead of congregational

singing in July, we have been partici-

pating in responsive reading of

Psalm 136. What a blessing this has

been! Together, as a church, this al-lows us to dwell in His Word. Read-

ing, responding and thinking about

the same Holy words each week

leads us to worship Him all the

more.

Like a metronome on a piano, Psalm

136 sets a rhythm of “His love en-

dures forever” all through the week.

On Sunday, we hear “Give thanks to

the Lord, for he is good,” and we

respond, “His love endures forever.”

We hear “Give thanks to the God of

gods,” and we respond, “His love

endures forever.” We hear “Give

thanks to the Lord of lords,” and we

respond, “His love endures forever.”

I leave the building, which God has

given us to reach our community,

and I respond, “His love endures for-

ever.” On Monday, I drive my car to

work and I respond, “His love endures forever.” On Tuesday, I get frustrat-

ed with having to put on my mask during one of the hottest days of the

summer, and I respond, “His love endures forever.” On Wednesday, I

laugh at the dinner table with my wife and kids, and I respond, “His love

endures forever.” On Thursday, I get the news that a former friend died

suddenly in a car accident, and I respond, “His love endures forever.” On

Friday, I get frustrated because I have been struggling all week to find the

right words to say on Sunday, and I respond, “His love endures forever.”

On Saturday, I do my weekly chores around the house, and I respond, “His love endures forever.” On Sunday, sitting with my church family I hear

from Psalm 136 again, “to the One who remembered us in our low estate…

and freed us from our enemies…and who gives food to every crea-

ture….Give thanks to God of heaven,” and I worship by responding with

each declaration, “His love endures forever.”

Even during this time, His love does indeed endure forever. We will contin-

ue to open our building in August to worship the Lord whose love endures

forever. We have modified how to worship together in August. We are con-

tinuing to eliminate distractions in order for us to worship the Lord Jesus

Christ.

Here is the plan for worship in August Please register: We will continue to ask people to register before Thurs-

day in order to make sure we have enough chairs for everyone who

wants to attend.

We will sing together: We will sing one song with our mask on at the

beginning of the service.

We will take our mask off when we sit: After we sing, we will allow

people to take off their mask while they are seated. Please wear your

mask entering the building, walking in the building and exiting the

building.

We will no longer have one entrance and one exit: We will be al-

lowed to enter and exit through the same doors.

Also, in August, school starts back. King George and the surrounding

county schools are starting school with virtual instruction online. Starting

August 17, we will open up our building from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM to fami-

lies who do not have sufficient internet in their homes. We will do this dur-

ing the first nine weeks of school and then evaluate if we need to continue.

We want our hospitality to be even better than our internet speeds. There-

fore, we need hosts to be in the building to welcome people and be hospita-

ble. Would you help? We need Round Hill members to help for two hours

or the whole day. Be looking for more information about this in the weeks

to come.

I love you Round Hill. I am blessed to be your pastor. When I look at how

faithful the Lord has been to our church I have to worship and say, “His

love endures forever.”

As the heat rises and we are looking for inside activities, this month I en-courage you to make some “Jars of Encouragement.” The August Missions

Mosaic has three recipes for blessing someone with a simple gift and some

words of encouragement. Even though more things are opening, many are

still feeling isolated and alone. Many others have been working tirelessly

through all the chaos on the frontlines. I challenge you to think of someone

you could bless with one of these jars! Add them to your prayer list as well!

Happy Tummy Jar Recipe

Supplies:

1 quart Mason jar

Decorative string

Card stock

Ingredients per jar:

1 ¾ c flour

¾ tsp baking soda

¾ tsp salt

½ c sugar

¾ c brown sugar

1 ½ c semisweet chocolate chips

Bottom layer: Mix flour, baking soda and salt and pack

down as the bottom layer in the jar.

Middle layer: Pack the brown sugar and sugar on top

of the flour mixture.

Top layer: Place chocolate chips on the top of the sug-

ar layer and close the jar.

Using card stock create a tag with the following baking

instructions:

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Beat ¾ cup of softened butter

and 1 egg until well blended. Add cookie mix and stir well.

Drop rounded tablespoons of cookie dough onto to an un-

greased cookie sheet. Bake 9-11 minutes until golden

brown. Cool and enjoy. Add your favorite Bible verse and

words of encouragement.

Blessed Hands Jar Recipe

Supplies:

Dishwashing liquid – something mild

Granulated sugar

Canning jar or decorative container

Decorative string

Card stock or adhesive label

Fill the jar or container ¾ full of sugar. Fill the

remaining space with dishwashing liquid. Stir

together. Secure the lid and attach a card with

your favorite Bible verse of encouragement.

Warm Heart Jar

Supplies:

Bible Paper

Pens

Mason Jar

Decorate the outside of the jar or use a decora-

tive jar. Prepare the jar by writing or printing

Scripture verses on the pieces of paper. Fold

them and place them in the jar. Write some

words of encouragement and remind the re-

cipient to “start the fire in his or her heart” by

reading God’s Word every day! Bonus sugges-

tion: Hide a small gift card in the jar for a cof-

fee or snack!

Christmas in August missionaries request gift cards from

Walmart, Target or Dunkin Donuts Sal and Giovana Cavarretta in Boca Raton, Florida report “they are a set up/

tear down campus that meets at a school. Each Sunday, we have refreshments

like doughnuts and coffee available to help people feel welcomed. We are also

anticipating that, due to the coronavirus, children from the school where we

meet will need school supplies. Thank you so much! We count it a great bless-

ing!”

Thanks be to God for His faithful-

ness during these trying times. He

has provided for us in so many ways.

I have been in awe of how He has brought His people together, though

physically we have had to stay apart.

So many have stepped up to serve in

new ways so that the Gospel can

continue to be proclaimed. Many

thanks to Annie Thompson, James

Rongey and my family for blessing

us with beautiful music in our wor-

ship services. I am grateful for our

audio/visual and computer folks

who continue to work hard to pro-

vide and improve our sound, visual

aids and streaming capabilities. For

our building & grounds committee

for creating and building the things

we need. For our set-up and greeting

committees who make it comfortable

for us to worship together in person.

For the support of our finance com-

mittee. I thank God that many are

meeting virtually for Bible study and

prayer and our children’s Sunday

School teachers connect with their

students each week. I am especially

grateful to announce that we will

begin to sing together as a congrega-

tion this month. We will lift our

voice in song, with our masks on.

Bicentennial events moved to 2021 By Connie Armentrout

The year 2020 has not enabled our “vision” that we had for the

200th year celebration. Sadly, due to COVID-19, all of our bicenten-

nial events will be rescheduled to 2021. The following is our tenta-

tive plan.

Movie Night — Saturday, March 27

Auction/Spaghetti Dinner or Ice Cream Social — Saturday,

June 5

Block Party — Saturday, August 21 Homecoming — Sunday, September 19

Even though our events are postponed, we do have Round Hill bi-

centennial ornaments. Artisan Christine Lush-Rodriguez from Art-

ful Dimensions Gallery in Fredericksburg designed the ceramic or-

nament in both blue and burgundy. The ornaments are currently

available at the church office on Wednesdays from noon-2:00 PM.

Please call ahead (540-775-5583) if you would like to pick up an or-

nament during that time. They will also be displayed in the vestibule

beginning in August. The cost is $25. Please make checks payable to

Round Hill Baptist Church and mark budget line item 6580 in the

1. Pray for my kids and family

as they are disappointed about

school being virtual in the Fall.

They are missing friends and

being out of the house. Our

area is getting hit hard with

COVID-19 and so we are hav-

ing to be extra cautious.

2. We hosted a virtual event for the leaders we are disciplining here

in Hampton Roads. We talked about Lament and Leading Towards

a Hope Filled Future as we navigate so many obstacles in our cul-

ture right now. We had close to 50 leaders, pastors and church

planters join us with a majority from Hampton Roads. This is our

way of helping our current church plants, encourage existing

churches to plant, and identify new potential planters.

3. Pray for Mission Church in Norfolk whom I did training with

over the weekend. Charles Shannon is the planter I’ve mentored as

he planted 3 years ago and is now looking at raising up leaders for a

new plant.

In Tramp for the Lord, Corrie ten Boom describes

traveling to Russia during the Cold War — when

Christians were being persecuted — to thank an

old woman who’d been secretly translating

Christian books (including ten Boom’s). Ravaged

by multiple sclerosis, the woman could move on-

ly an index finger. Yet with it she typed constant-

ly, translating words while praying for people

who’d eventually read them. Ten Boom’s reac-

tion was, “Oh Lord, why don’t you heal her?”

But the woman’s husband said God had a pur-

pose in his wife’s suffering. Although the secret

police closely watched other Christians, they left

this woman alone, assuming she couldn’t accom-

plish anything. Jesus works through our weak-

nesses, making his power perfect in them (see 2

Corinthians 12:9). He doesn’t ask if we’re capa-

ble — only if we’re willing.

Last spring, life changed as we became familiar with

terms such as social distancing, flattening the curve and

self-quarantining. We could hardly believe the closed

schools, businesses and especially churches — just as

Holy Week and Easter drew near! The coronavirus ran

rampant in the world. Where was God?

But as the spread continued, many civic leaders stepped

up, calmly informing us of the facts, of actions being taken to mitigate the crisis and of how we could help.

Healthcare professionals risked their lives and endured

separation from families; teachers drew on astounding

stores of creativity to teach online; pastors delivered

sermons and lessons to empty sanctuaries as members

listened and prayed while living in lockdown. Surely

God was present — through them!

Then I remembered how God assures us through Isai-

ah, “Fear not! When you pass through the waters, the

fires, yes, even the pandemics of this world, I will be

with you” (43:1-2, paraphrased). And Jesus echoes, “I

am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).
