I Corinthians 13: 4a Charity suffereth long, and is kind;

• Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV)– 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city

that is set on an hill cannot be hid.– 15 Neither do men light a candle,

and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

– 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

• Other Translations– Love cares more for others than for self.

(the Message)– All the other translations use the same

word, kind

• Definition of Kindness– The quality of being friendly, generous,

and considerate

• Kindness is patience in action– Patience and kindness usually go

together

• Love affects to be kind– Galatians 5: 22-23• But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,

longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,• Meekness, temperance: against such there

is no law.

• Kind to whom?– Christian friends• Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to

another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

– Enemies• Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do

good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

– Strangers• Leviticus 19:34 But the stranger that

dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

• Why should we be kind?– Proverbs 11:17• The merciful man doeth good to his own

soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. (KJV)• A man who is kind benefits himself,  but a

cruel man hurts himself. (ESV)• The man who shows loving-kindness does

himself good, but the man without pity hurts himself.  (NLV)

– Proverbs 19:17• He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto

the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. (KJV)

• Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord,and he will reward them for what they have done. (NIV)

–Micah 6:8• He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good;

and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? (KJV)• O man, He has told you what is good. What
