All-school Alumni Reunion Events for 2019!

A Message from our President…

Greetings, Alumni & Friends!

Are you ready to make memories in October at the annual Reunion Event?!? In my experience, it has always been a wonderful time visiting and reminiscing with classmates, alumni and faculty at these dinners. Last year was our 40th class reunion (1978) and what a fantastic time it was! We had classmates that we hadn’t seen in decades and guess what? We picked up right where we left off! We laughed, we cried, we hugged, we danced and made memories!

I can’t emphasize enough about “making memories!” Back in 2015, we had a classmate from Wyoming that we hadn’t seen in years attend the Reunion event. It wasn’t our reunion year but several from our class attended anyway due to his return. (I will admit I had never really attended unless it was a milestone year for my class .) To this day, so many of us were so thankful for that wonderful autumn weekend! The memories made that year will remain near and dear to our hearts due to the fact that we lost our dear friend to cancer the following October.

Last year, I concluded with a quote from Dr. Seuss. It is still relevant this year. “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” Thanks for the sweet and hilarious memories, Kurt! RIP, dear friend.

Let’s continue to make those special memories and reminisce the good ole days! I hope to visit with many of you in October at our annual Reunion Event!

Alumni Association Scholarships Awarded During our Association’s first two years, two $500 scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors each year. The next two years, based on the scholarship fund balances, our Association voted to award four $500 scholarships to eligible graduating seniors who applied. In 2013-2015 we awarded four $750 scholarships. Since 2016 our Association has awarded four $1,000 scholarships. The winners were announced at the annual Awards Night in early May. They are listed along with their plans after graduation:

Maria Gutierrez, attend Lincoln University or State Fair Community College and play softball, field of study is undecided; Dadrealle Hawkins, attend Drury University and major in music therapy; Madison Perkins, attend Moberly Area Community College on the A+ Scholarship and major in education; Amanda Sencen-baugh, attend Kansas State University to earn a Masters of Architecture degree.

This brings the total amount of scholarships awarded by our Association to LHS graduates since 2009 to $31,000! This has been made pos-sible only with the support from many of you. THANK YOU! It’s our hope the Association will be able to continue to make these and even greater awards in the years to come.

The Association wishes these students and the entire Class of 2019, which was 41 strong, the very best in the years ahead!

The recipient of the 2019 Ellen Morrow Memorial Math Scholarship, administered and selected by the Alumni Asso-ciation, was Marin Powers. Marin will be attending Wash-ington University-St. Louis where she will double major in Japanese and one of the following: graphic design, comput-er science or linguistics. This scholarship, named after a long-time LHS math teacher, goes to the top math student and is for $1,000.

The Association’s scholarship committee selected Spencer Butler for the 2019 Gierke Family Memorial Scholarship. Spencer plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia and major in civil engineering and minor in business. This scholarship memorializes brothers Jacob and Christian Gierke and their father, Jim, who was the former owner of the Louisiana Press-Journal. This $2,000 scholarship is ad-ministered by the Missouri Press Association.

Morrow and Gierke Scholarships Awarded

As we shared in last year’s newsletter, it came to the attention of the Association that the final phase of enhanced playground equipment at the elementary school had never been completed. After discussion with the Louisiana R-II Superintendent, Dr. Todd Smith, it was agreed a fundraiser would be held at the elementary school with the Alumni Association partnering with the staff there. This fundraiser netted approximately $4,500.

With the $10,000 the Bullpup Boosters pledged toward this project and the net proceeds from the fundraiser we were within $5,000 of the amount needed to fully fund the final phase. Dr. Smith indicated he would commit to build that into the 2019-2020 budget so the project would indeed be totally funded. It is expected the equipment will be purchased and installed by the start of school this August.

Our Association again donated $100 to the Louisiana After-Prom Com-mittee. This group of junior and senior parents sponsors and “works” the annual all-night, alcohol-free, after-prom party open to juniors and seniors and their dates. It was again held this year at the local Twin Pike Family YMCA.

Each year the Association takes out a large ad in the ALAMO yearbook to help defray a portion of the printing costs in hopes of keeping the student purchase price more reasonable, to show our support of the students and to put the Association’s name in front of the students.

We all remember our school mascot being the Bulldog, right? In the late 1990s a special Bulldogs logo was created by a graphic artist from Josten’s (yearbook printer at the time) in conjunction with the ALAMO yearbook staff. It is unique as the word BULLDOGS was used to create many of the fea-tures of the dog’s head and it included a spiked collar. (see the logo at right).

Superintendent Todd Smith was first interested in seeking a trademark back when he taught business for the district but learned the paperwork was quite daunting. He said he was always amazed that such a unique design never popped up in any collegiate Bulldog design. Smith believed there is a cer-tain pride of ownership of this logo for the District patrons and knew many people were selling Bull-dog apparel with this logo in competition with our own Booster Club. In 2018 staff member Becky Henderson inquired about it which got the ball rolling.

Part of the process is to establish who/how the logo was created which was covered earlier. When asked by the District, Josten’s signed paperwork indicating they did not have any ownership in the logo.

Henderson found a school in Texas that had trademarked their logo. When contacted asking how they navigated the process, they recom-mended an attorney in Arizona. Smith contacted the firm and found they had a very reasonable trademark package/fee. The Louisiana school district worked with that firm. The entire process took almost a year and cost $1,000 to complete. Now the District owns the exclu-sive rights to this logo meaning no other school or business can use this logo without permission (licensing rights) from Louisiana R-II.

Now the next step is working with the attorney to make the formal declaration to the public, create a fee schedule for licensing and contact any national retailers (i.e. Wal-Mart) currently using our logo. Smith said “we certainly didn’t get into it to make money – but we would like to be able to control who uses it.” The LHS Bulldog Boosters donate everything they make back into the District’s programs so Smith indi-cated it only makes sense to license it to them. From there who knows…but the Louisiana R-II School District is now the trademark holder of this unique Bulldog head logo.

School District Trademarks Bulldogs Logo

This year at Commencement for the Class of 2019, something which is believed by the district to be a first in the history of Louisiana High School occurred. A brother and sister were Valedictorian and Salutatorian.

Michael Powers was Valedictorian while his sister Marin Powers was Salutatorian of the Class of 2019. They are the children of T.C. and Kristen Powers of Louisiana. The family moved to Louisiana in 2012 with these 2 children with Michael in 5th grade and Marin in 6th. (They have older, adult children also.) Michael skipped 8th grade which put them in the same grade entering high school.

During their LHS years Michael has excelled in Scholar/Quiz Bowl as documented on page 5 of this newsletter. Marin enjoyed a year as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Japan during her junior year and was the recipient of the Ellen Morrow Math Scholarship this year. When asked to what they credit these two children’s successes their mother said, “First, we really don’t take credit for what they’ve accom-plished. They did the school work, not us.” She went on to say, “Really the only thing I can point to is I read to them every night before bedtime. We made them responsible for their own school work. We told them mom and dad work at our jobs and your school work is like your job. Your grades are your reward for the effort you put into your work. Taking them to Borders bookstore was viewed (by them) as a treat.”

They both will be attending Washington University in St. Louis. We wish them both the best.

This year’s featured LHS alum is Kevin Hampton who has gone on and excelled in the Fine Arts field. Cur-rently, Kevin serves as Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music in the Holland College of Arts and Media at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.

After graduating from LHS in 1978 he received his B.S. from William Jewell College, Master of Music degree from Drake University, and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland at College Park. Kevin was also a scholar of the Rotary Foundation International and studied piano and harpsichord at the Conservatoire National in Toulouse, France.

Kevin’s concert appearances have included piano four-hands performances and his recital performances have taken him across the Northeast, South-east and Midwest. He has served as piano judge and guest artist at various music festivals, national educator conferences and international Young Artist competitions. Currently, Hampton is president-elect of the Missouri Association of Departments of Schools of Music.

His family’s roots are deeply embedded in the Louisiana R-II School District. His mother taught 5th and 6th grade math and science and his sisters, Mary Ann Anderson and Harriet Barber, taught 1st and 2nd grades respectively. Kevin is grateful for the many wonderful teachers in the District who mentored, influenced, and encouraged him including Jeanne Brown, Dan Christy, Sara Jane Branstetter, Karen Sajban, Lula Beth Griffith and Sally Keithley. He is thankful for the many opportunities he had to pursue his musical interests while a student in the District through participation in band, choir and school musicals. NOTE: If you know of an LHS graduate who has gone on to do great things in life, please share their name, contact info and a little background for future consideration. Email [email protected] or mail it to PO Box 404, Louisiana, MO 63353.

In February 2019, the Louisiana Bulldogs Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2018 members were inducted. It was comprised of David Cunning-ham, Greg Farris, Dexter Schraer, Jim York, and the 1977 LHS football team. The ceremony took place in the Jake Noel Gymnasium at LHS between basketball games.

The district has decided that they will again unveil the names of the Hall of Fame Class of 2019 members during our all-school reunion din-ner in October. Activities Director Ryan Griffin said the official induction ceremony will be scheduled sometime during the LHS basketball season.

With the announcement of the class to be inducted being held in October, the deadline for nominations for consideration each year will be the end of July. The committee will evaluate and select those for induction in August allowing adequate time for the honorees to be noti-fied, plaques made, etc. by mid-October. NOTE: AD Griffin encourages anyone with names of those who are worthy of Hall of Fame consid-eration to submit the nominee(s) ASAP. It’s possible they may be given consideration for this year’s class.

You may recall our Scholar Bowl (known by many as Quiz Bowl) team earned the MSHSAA Class 2 State Championship in both ’16-’17 and ’17-‘18. There were high hopes in the community for a “three-peat” but that was not to be this past year. Nonetheless, this team accomplished great things!!

The team this past year had an overall record of 94 wins and only 18 defeats. They took first place in the Very Small School Division at the Missouri Fall Academic tourney, the Washington University (MO) HS Invitational and the Ladue HS Spring Invitational. Also, they were EMO Conference champs and in April won their MSHSAA district and sectional competition for the 4th straight year!

Local businesses and community members showed overwhelming support of the team as they prepared to defend their state championship in Columbia. A private coach bus was rented which transported the team to Columbia complete with snacks. This was made possible by generous donations from Trailerman Trailers, Larry/Brenda Chamberlain, Gregg/Cindy Blaylock and State Farm Insurance. The Mercantile Bank of Louisiana purchased lunch for the team on Friday and purchased them State team shirts. And Eagle Busi-ness Products donated the embroidery costs for team jackets for each mem-ber paid for by donations from many community members.

At State the team had a tough preliminary draw and went 1 and 2 so did not make the final four. From Columbia they traveled to Chicago to compete at the Small School National High School Tournament. LHS placed 11th overall and were 4th in the Very Small School Division at Nationals.

Senior Michael Powers was named the team MVP for the 4th consecutive year by Coach Malia Jolly. As a Top 5 performer at State, Michael was selected for the second year to represent Team Missouri A at the National All-Star Aca-demic Tournament. At that tournament held in Lexington, Ky. in mid June, Missouri A placed 15th. That put the wraps on a tremendous career for Michael.

Everyone who has attended Louisiana schools or served the district as an administrator, teacher, or support staff is automatically a member of the Alumni Association. This is true even if it was for a short time. We no longer ask for annual dues to be a member of the Louisiana Alumni & Friends Association.

Now, in lieu of annual dues, each member of the Association is asked to make a regular, tax-deductible donation as their situation per-mits. These donations will help provide on-going operating funds to cover the cost of regular expenses such as printing and mailing our alumni newsletter, website maintenance, and special purchases of materials, services, and/or equipment made to enhance the Louisiana R-II School District and to, in turn, benefit its students.

The suggested donation categories are as follows:

White………………. $ 5.00 - $24.99

Red………………….. $25.00 - $49.99

Bulldog……………. $50.00 - $99.99

Super Dawg…….. $100 and up

We ask you to consider making a donation and/or support our fund-raisers.

How about making a tax-deductible donation now! See the Reservation Form with this newsletter which has a space for such or you may do so on our website using Paypal at

As shared in previous newsletters, the R-II District patrons overwhelmingly approved a 4 million dollar, “no tax increase” bond issue in April 2017. By the start of school this year virtually all of the projects planned will have been completed. This summer a new district-wide phone system has been installed which includes placing a phone in every classroom with emergency communication capabilities.

One of the last items on the project list was a new bus barn facility. About a year ago an existing building just outside of town along UU near Highway 54 was purchased by the district. During the last year this building has been retrofitted to serve as the District’s bus barn. This fenced and secure facility will take the place of using Meriwether School and the adjoining “playground” as the bus barn. By the time you read this, the new bus barn will be in full use and Meriwether retired. When asked about the future of Meriwether School, Superintendent Smith said “Our hope all along has been that we could complete each project as economically as possible and leave a surplus to aid in the expense of taking the (Meriwether) building down. We really won’t know for sure until we have everything completed and the dust settles, but that is our hope.”

When Superintendent Dr. Todd Smith was asked about the status of the District’s competi-tive application for a FEMA Safe Room grant, he shared the following information. “We are in the “stacked” application queue. At the end of last year there was some funding not claimed and we were asked to update our application in anticipation of funding. They did not get to us – but each round of funding puts us closer to the top (of the “stack”). I am optimistic in the next year or two our time will come. In the meantime, we have bond pro-ceeds earmarked for the eventual construction.”

Proposition Bulldog Project Update

The Louisiana High School football program has gone through some difficult times the last several years. Head Coach Joe Calhoun said earlier this summer, “the coaches and players are continuing to rebuild the program with the idea in mind that it all begins and ends with a connection to our com-munity.” Last season saw the Bulldogs play as an independ-ent against a variety of opponents. (You’ll remem-ber we left the CCC, Clarence Cannon Conference, a year ago and will officially begin playing football as a member of the EMO, Eastern Missouri Confer-ence, in 2020.) The team broke a 45-game losing streak last fall. With that win the young men who have chosen to represent LHS on the football field were rewarded for all of their hard work leading up to last season. The ‘Dawgs won 2 games and were very competi-tive in a few more. Calhoun went on to say, “the team is beginning to understand what it takes to be successful on Friday nights. We are fortunate this season to have at least 6 home games (the site of postseason, playoff games are TBD) on our varsity schedule. The team and coaches will appreciate any and all support we receive from the community.” The team motto is Pride, Poise, Desire. Coaches and players alike hope to continue to demonstrate these attributes leading up to and during the 2019 football season. It kicks off on August 30th at 7 pm on Cunningham Field against Mark Twain HS followed at home on Sep-tember 6th vs. Van-Far.

Even though the area dealt with the second highest flood levels on record this spring, the new bridge across the Mississippi River was finished well ahead of the targeted November 2019 completion date. The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Saturday, August 3rd with the great-grandson of Champ Clark in attendance. It was to be opened to traffic on August 3 or very soon thereafter. The old bridge had two, 10 ft.-wide lanes where the new bridge has two, 12-foot wide lanes plus 10 ft. wide shoulders on both sides. No more white knuckles while driving across the river! MoDOT indicates pe-destrians and bicyclists will be allowed on the bridge’s shoulders at their own risk as there is no protective barrier.

The contractor’s focus will now turn to preparing the old bridge for demolition. After removing the driving surface, the railing and some of the steel girders, it will be brought down by implosion likely span by span vs. all at once. It is anticipated the old bridge will come down sometime late this fall before bad weather sets in. For the latest in-formation on the demolition, go to http://www.champclarkbridge.com/index.php.

About two years ago voters in Louisiana approved a bond issue to improve the Georgia Street corridor. This project entails relocating various utilities and very old sewer and water lines from under Georgia Street to the area immediately south of it AND ultimately repaving all of it west of Fourth St. Thus far it has been repaved from Pike County Memorial Hospital to the bowling alley where the infrastructure is newer. Work continues from the hospital into the downtown area with sidewalks ripped up, trenches dug where the sidewalks were, orange fencing and stakes/yellow caution tape, piles of dirt and gravel abound and access to some side streets barricaded off due to the trenches. This project has been slowed by city workers having to do flood-related work. It’s not a pretty picture at present and the project will not be completed until sometime in 2020.

As a result Colorfest 2019 will be relocated off of Georgia Street. It likely will be moved onto South Main St. and some of the adjoining side streets. The Colorfest parade route will likely be detoured as a result but until closer to the date no final route will be known. We just didn’t want alums returning to town, going to Georgia St. and finding no Colorfest activities taking place.

Ambassador Stefan Haukur Johannesson has served for over 30 years in the Icelandic For-eign Service. He assumed his position as the Ambassador to the UK, and non-resident Am-bassador to Ireland, Malta, Qatar and Jordan in November 2017. Previously he served as the Permanent Secretary of State of the Foreign Ministry in Reykjavík. In 2014, Mr. Jóhannes-son was the Team Leader for the Organization

for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Kiev, Ukraine, as a part of the Special Monitoring Mission (SMM). Prior to that he served as Iceland‘s Chief Negotiator and State Secretary in the EU accession talks from 2009-2013, leading a team of 200 experts and advisers. He has further been entrusted with multiple international leadership roles in negotiations and dispute settlement within the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Perhaps most importantly, he successfully led the highly complex and politically charged accession of Russia to the WTO to completion, in his role as chairman of the Working Party from 2003 to 2011. Mr. Jóhan-nesson has also served as the Ambassador of Iceland in Brussels to the European Union and the Benelux countries and as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the WTO, EFTA and other inter-national organizations in Geneva where he also served as non-resident Ambassador to Slovenia and Licehtenstein. Stefan com-mented, “And by the way, you bet my experience as an exchange student for a year in Louisiana as an AFS student has been a very important for my career and my life.”

Greetings!!

Thank you for the opportunity to update our LHS alumni on all the great things that are taking place at Louisiana High School. The 2018-2019 school year saw many wonderful accomplishments in the areas of academics, extracurricular activi-ties, and service to our community.

We continue to offer students a wide variety of course selections, including offerings in dual credit coursework. The 2019 graduates had the potential to leave LHS with 24 hours of college credit. We continue to participate in the Missouri A+

Program and this year 13 students will be taking advantage of the free and/or discounted tuition offered to A+ graduates by Missouri com-munity colleges and universities.

On the extra-curricular front, it was another great year at Louisiana High School. LHS is fortunate to have motivated student participants and a great group of dedicated coaches and sponsors. Some highlights:

Softball team named Academic All-State

3 FFA National Degree Recipients

4 FBLA State Qualifiers

1 FBLA National Qualifier

13 All-District Athletes

10 All-Conference Athletes

7 Academic All-State Athletes

5 All Conference Choir

1 All District Choir

1 Participated All State Solo Choir

20 Conference/Area Art Show Award Winners

1 All-Conference, All-District and All-State Scholar Bowl

Musical performance of “Seussical the Musical”

Scholar Bowl Team won conference, district and sectional titles

Scholar Bowl Team represented LHS well and battled but came up short in state competition.

None of these accomplishments would be possible without the dedication of the students, coaches/sponsors; the support of the Bulldog Boosters and parents; and the commitment from the Louisiana R-II Board of Education.

Whenever possible, we give the students at LHS opportunities to give back to the community that makes everything possible. This year our National Honor Society and Interact students provided services to the Pike County Memorial Hospital, the Twin Pike Family Y, the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce, as well as several other local organizations. Our students volunteered with the Department of Conservation at Eagle Days and Duck Days, and our FBLA students participated in several community clean-up projects. Our A+ students are enrolled in a Student Outreach and Community Service class allowing them to serve as classroom aides and peer tutors in the Louisiana Middle and Ele-mentary Schools. The opportunity is rewarding for students on both sides of the equation. Our Interact Chapter (a high school arm of the Rotary Club), raised funds throughout the year to be put toward community projects, and put on the 3rd Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance.

We are also working hard to maintain and upgrade our already great facilities. Resurfacing of track will be taking place summer of 2019 and every room will be getting a phone to ensure student safety.

The Hall of Fame Committee elected five new inductees in the Cass of 2018: Greg Farris, Dexter Schraer, David Cunningham, Coach Jim York, and the 1977 Football team.

Our doors are always open to Alumni and Friends. If you are in town, please stop by and see us. Depending on how long it has been, you may notice significant changes. All of our facilities are top notch in the area and in the Conference. I would enjoy giving anyone interested a tour of the grounds. It is all of your hard work, contributions, and accomplishments that make LHS what it is today.

I hope to see you soon.

In prior years my newsletter article contained a lot of facts and figures about membership numbers. This year I am going a different direction.

What are the duties of the membership chairman?

• Does he spend time recruiting new members? NO, the Louisiana School District does that for the LHS Alumni Association.

• Does he contact the entire membership about paying their dues? NO, the LHS Alumni Association in October 2014 voted on by-law changes that replaced the annual dues system with a volunteer financial support system.

• Does he maintain an accurate and up to date membership contact database? YES, the membership chairman maintains a contact database which includes entries for everyone that attended and/or graduated from Louisiana High School.

What is in the LHS Alumni Contact Database?

• The database contains contact information, class year, full name, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email address, Facebook name, father name, mother name, spouse name, death date for all the members from the Class of 1930 to present plus LHS faculty and LHS Alumni friends. Currently, this database contains 6,488 entries, but 1,674 do not have any contact information on file.

What is this LHS Alumni Contact Database used for?

• The primary purpose for this database is to provide mailing address and email addresses for sending out the annual LHS alumni news-letters.

• The database is also used to provide Class Reunion Coordinators a list of their classmates with contact information when they begin to plan their class’ reunions.

• Several times each year, an alumnus will contact the membership chairman wanting to contact a classmate or another alumnus. The membership chairman will facilitate this connection, but will not share your information without permission.

Have there been any unusual usages for the LHS Alumni Contact Database?

• The LHS Alumni Association was working with the Bulldog Boosters in painting the Louisiana Bulldog Boosters Store and the database was used to send an email reminder of this event to those living near Louisiana.

• When the Louisiana High School was replacing the football scoreboard, the database was used to send an email indicating donations for the new scoreboard were being accepted.

• When Stark Bro’s Nurseries & Orchards Co was celebrating 200 years in business, the database was used to send an email reminder of this event to alumni in the area.

• In 2017 when the Louisiana R-II School District had a proposition on the April election ballot, the database was used to send an email to alumni in the district stating the Alumni association supported the proposition.

• On several occasions an alumni has died and the family has requested that we notify their classmates of their passing.

• One of the more unusual ones is a family from Pennsylvania contact me about an LHS class ring they found several years ago on a beach in Florida. With the information on the ring, I was able to contact the alumna that had lost the ring years ago and coordinate the ring being returned to the alumna.

The Membership Committee of Louisiana High School Alumni and Friends Association needs your help. You and your classmates are our best resource in keeping the LHS Alumni Contact Database up to date. If any of your contact information changes, please let Mike Pratt know.

REMINDER: We do not make our LHS Alumni Contacts Database available to anyone except the class coordinators planning a reunion and they are provided only a list of their classmates with their contact information.

Mike Pratt can be reached via email at: [email protected], via Cell - 314-609-9821, or via USPS mail at: Louisiana Alumni & Friends Association, PO Box 404, Louisiana, MO 63353-0404.

If you do not wish to receive emails or mailings from the Alumni Association, please let us know and we will flag your contact information as “Do Not Mail Address”.

Don’t forget you can view any of the LHS ALAMO yearbooks through 2016 online. (The 2017 edition will be added later this year.) These were scanned a couple years ago and it has turned out to be by far the most viewed page of the Alumni Association’s website. The website page where the yearbooks can be viewed is www.LouisianaAlumniAssociation.org/alamos_yearbooks.

Not only will these bring back many fond memories to us, your chil-dren, grandchildren and friends will be amused or amazed to see you. When a viewing station was set up at the 2017 All-School

Reunion Social/Dinner those most interested in wanting to view the old ALAMOs were some of today’s high school students preparing to play the national anthem, LHS fight song, etc. They wanted to see their family members in their earlier days.

Should you have photographs or clippings which you believe would be of interest in helping to pre-serve the history of LHS, contact Mike Pratt at 314-609-9821 or via email at [email protected].

Class of 1949 – This class is planning to gather at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 19 at Betty Shuford Dolbeare’s home located at 105 Dolbeare Dr. in Louisiana before the Alumni Association’s all-school reunion events. This will allow time to visit and reconnect before moving on to the American Legion and the Alumni Association’s social and dinner. Class of 1969 – This class will start by gathering to ride on the 50-year class reunion float in the Colorfest parade on Saturday, Oct. 19. After the parade they will gather for a BYO lunch at Riverview Park at 1 p.m. There are plans for a class gathering at 4 p.m. before they join others at the Alumni Associa-tion’s social, dinner and dance at the Legion. For more details and the latest info, contact Pat Naxera Vallar at [email protected] or 573-560-8297 or Allan Abel at 440-227-6178.

Class of 1999 – The 20-year reunion class had their reunion on Saturday, July 27 at Tievoli Hills Resort in the afternoon, had dinner/drinks at Dos Primos and for those wishing to party on they adjourned to the Twin City Bowl/Spanish Room. Any classmates are encouraged to attend the Alumni Association events on Colorfest weekend (October 19). Jenny Guthrie Asquith was their lead person for the reunion and may be reached at [email protected], 573-795-1454 or on Facebook.
