Entrance Antiphon He fed them with the finest wheat

and satisfied them with honey from the rock.

Psalm 116 I will take the cup of salvation,

and call on the name of the Lord.

Glory to God Glory to God in the highest,

and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you,

we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,

Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,

Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world,

receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father,

have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One,

You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High,

Jesus Christ, with the holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father, Amen.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ June 6, 2021

Exodus 24:3-8

When Moses came to the people and related all the words and ordinances of the LORD, they all answered with one voice, "We will do everything that the LORD has told us." Moses then wrote down all the words of the LORD and, rising early the next day, he erected at the foot of the mountain an altar and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel. Then, having sent certain young men of the Israelites to offer holocausts and sacrifice young bulls as peace offerings to the LORD, Moses took half of the blood and put it in large bowls; the other half he splashed on the altar. Taking the book of the covenant, he read it aloud to the people, who answered, "All that the LORD has said, we will heed and do." Then he took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, saying, "This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words of his."

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Hebrews 9:11-15

Brothers and sisters: When Christ came as high priest of the good things that have come to be, passing through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made by hands, that is, not belonging to this creation, he entered once for all into the sanctuary, not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the sprinkling of a heifer's ashes can sanctify those who are defiled so that their flesh is cleansed, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship the living God. For this reason he is mediator of a new covenant: since a death has taken place for deliverance from transgressions under the first covenant, those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Mark 14:12-16, 22-26

On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples said to him, "Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?" He sent two of his disciples and said to them, "Go into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a jar of water. Follow him. Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says, "Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?"' Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there." The disciples then went off, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them; and they prepared the Passover. While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God." Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist

Scripture readings and prayers provided by the United States Conference

of Catholic Bishops. Reprinted with permission.

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name,

for our good and the good of all his holy Church.

Holy Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Mystery of Faith

When we eat this Bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord,

until you come again.

Communion Antiphon Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him, says the Lord..

Lamb of God Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,

grant us peace.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray… the coming of our savior, Jesus Christ.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

This Week’s Liturgy

St. Charles Borromeo Church June 6, 2021

Today’s feast day is called “The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.” In former days, it was called “Corpus Christi Sunday.” All of us have special people in our lives:

parents, friends, a spouse, etc. And we should be grateful every day for those special people. Sometimes, though, we take for granted those who are closest to us. So we set aside certain days to honor those who merit our love and gratitude: Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Sweetest Day, Valentine’s Day. We can also take for granted God’s many gifts to us: the gift of life, this wonderful world, our faith, and “God’s window on our world and our window on God’s world: the Sacraments.” Today’s feast day gives us the opportunity to reflect on the gift of the Holy Eucharist. If you knew—for certain—that this day was your final day of life, whatever you did this day would have particular significance and importance. On that first Holy Thursday, Jesus knew what was about to happen. His final gift to His disciples was His Body and Blood present under the appearance of bread and wine. It is very human to “take that gift for granted” and to allow our appreciation and our reception of the Eucharist to become routine. May our celebration this day deepen our reverence for the gift of the Holy Eucharist. Last Thursday evening, we held the Eighth Grade Graduation Exercises for the Class of 2021. The first St. Charles Graduation was the Class of 1927! Grades Kindergarten to Seven had their last day of class on Friday. I must admit, I always enjoy giving every student his/her report card! St. Charles Borromeo School is blessed with an excellent reputation. Principals of both public and parochial high schools tell me that they always welcome St. Charles graduates because they are so well-prepared. This year, we owe a particular debt of gratitude to our principal, Eileen Updegrove, our administrative staff, faculty, aides, and maintenance crew. Last August was a very uncertain time. There was no “precise plan” to handle this COVID-19 outbreak. With great determination, and lots of prayers, St. Charles School offered a solid year of in-person classroom learning. The students are one year smarter; they did not “lose a year” as happened in many other places. So here’s a Big Tip of the St. Charles Appreciation Hat to the St. Charles School Family! You made it another great year, even in a worldwide pandemic.
