description

“Lost & Dragon Treasure” (1st of the 2 books dedicated to the art of the Quest series, Gerry Gaston’s successful interactive adventures for children), along with “Wizard & Pirate Prize”, collects the sketches, the preliminary art and the unused variants of the color illustrations used in the final books. A real behind the scene dedicated to the 2 years cooperation between Gerry and Blue Monkey Studio’s senior artist Laura Livi, the book offers an eye-widening tour in the meandering way of concept development, art and graphic design concurring to create a lively, ever-improving interactive experience for children. It described the step-by-step creation of each illustration, providing insight on how much professional art must be versatile to match the needs of the modern readers without losing its initial vocational spirit.

...Looking down the steep slope of sand, which leads to the beach below, I knew there was a risk that I might get hurt if I tried to slide down. The alternative was to use the wooden steps dug into the hillside to provide a safe passage for my descent...

It is a basic choice we often face in life:dare to challenge a dangerous situation or follow the safe easy path. The fundamental purpose of the Quest adventures is to use the picture book format of storytelling to provide children the entertainment of making these choices.

The Quest series of interactive children's books are developed with the primary purpose of providing young children with exciting visual adventures that are intended to be guided by their storyline choices.

The illustrations are key, for within them resides the background to set the tone of the scenes and the depiction of the physical pathways to choose from, such as a trail, ladder, or door.

Then objects of interest areincluded to convey the reality and action of the given situation, as encountered by the character. And finally, the Hero is drawn to display the reaction to the circumstances encountered.

Crafting the scenes into sequences, based on the preset pathway pattern options, requires a consistency of artwork which provides the reader with a sense of continuity during the progression of the story.

Children reading a quest adventure will finish the story with the feeling that they actually participated in an epic journey.

Combining the thrill of an epic journey with the visually beautiful illustrations provides the perfect reading entertainment for children who enjoy participating in interactive adventures.

Your Adventure awaits!Gerry Gaston
