Loreto, Subiaco & Rome The Society of Mary & The Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, Pilgrimage to Tuesday 24th September – Tuesday 1st October 2019 DAY ONE – TUESDAY 24 TH SEPTEMBER STANSTED - ANCONA - LORETO Scheduled flight from Stansted to Ancona. Transfer to Loreto (20 minutes) where we check into our hotel for a two-night stay. This evening we shall celebrate a Mass which begins an important step in creating a closer relationship between the Shrines at Loreto and at Walsingham, both of which focus on the Holy House of Nazareth. Dinner will be in our hotel on each evening of the pilgrimage. DAY TWO – WEDNESDAY 25 TH SEPTEMBER LORETO Today we shall spend the day in the small town of Loreto. We shall celebrate a Mass that morning and have a guided tour of the Ba- silica, so that we come to understand more of the details of its history. The great basilica, built and decorated by some of the greatest artists is merely a cover for the real treasure, the House in which the Incarnation took place. As the inscription “Hic Verbum Caro Factum Est” reminds us that these are the very stones of that House. Lunch is at choice and during the afternoon we hope to have an opportunity for further devotional and theological reflection on the relationship between the two Shrines. DAY THREE – THURSDAY 26 TH SEPTEMBER LANCIANO - SUBIACO Early departure by coach to Lanciano, the site of a Eucharistic miracle which took place in the 8th century. We celebrate Mass in the Church of San Francesco which houses the relics of the miracle. There will be some free time for lunch before we join our coach and transfer to our accommodation in Subiaco (coach journey duration approx. 3 hours) – La Foresteria del Monastero di S. Scholastica. Dinner in the guesthouse. Time permitting a stop at the Basilica of the Volto Santo (Holy Face) in Manoppello will be made. DAY FOUR – FRIDAY 27 TH SEPTEMBER SUBIACO - ROME This morning we visit St Benedict’s Monastery, built around Sacro Speco (Holy Cave) where he lived for three years. Here St Benedict wrote his Rule. Mass is celebrated here. Today lunch is at choice. However, there will be the opportunity to pre-book a light lunch at La Foresteria in Subiaco. This afternoon we join our coach for the transfer to our accommodation in Rome – Domus Internationalis Paulus VI located few minutes from the famous Piazza Navona. Dinner is included in the guesthouse. Led by Fr Kevin Smith & Fr Graeme Rowlands
