Supervision at 3pm

You may have noticed that at 3pm we try to have an executive member of staff at both the Highland Street exit as well as at the traffic lights on the corner of Woodville Rd and Oxford Street. Please note that this is not part of our rostered supervision and the executive do this to try and minimise risk at both exits. There may be times when a member of staff is not able to be at the exits. This is a reminder that we encourage all parents to supervise children crossing the road or hopping into a parked car.

Father’s Day Breakfast

This year we are holding a Father’s Day breakfast for all our dads, carers, grandfathers and uncles. This will be happening on Friday 6th September at 8am. More information will be sent out closer to the date.

National Pyjama Day

Granville South Public School is proud to support The Pyjama Foundation by taking part in National Pyjama Day.

National Pyjama Day is all about wearing your favourite pair of PJ's or ‘onesie’ to help The Pyjama Foundation raise much-needed awareness and funds for children in foster care.

We will be selling Zooper Dooper ice-blocks at lunch time and recess for $1.

There will be a raffle with tickets on sale next week. There will be a “Movie Night” basket and a ‘Le Reve’ hamper. The SRC will be selling tickets in the morning, at lunch and recess from Tuesday 13th August until Tuesday 20th August. Tickets are $1 for 1 ticket and $2 for 3 tickets.

With the money raised from National Pyjama Day, you’ll be helping to provide learning skills to more than 1000 children, fund educational resources and help provide stable, positive relationships.

We look forward to seeing everyone in their PJs to help support this great cause.

Kindergarten 2020 enrolling now It is that time of year again when we are accepting Kindergarten 2020 enrolments.I highly encourage you to enrol your child this term as our Kindergarten Transition program starts in Term 4. The transition program is integral in your child having a successful start to schooling. If you know someone in the area that is looking to enrol their child please encourage them to do this prior to the 28th September. Please note that as of Term 4 the Department of Education is bringing in a new enrolment policy that may change the guidelines of accepting students who are out of our local catchment area. If you are unsure of what school is local to you please go to https://education.nsw.gov.au/school-finder

Child Protection Week Breakfast Event Students, parents, carers and friends of Granville south Public School are invited to attend a Breakfast Celebration on Thursday 29th August from 8am onwards, raising awareness for Child Protection Week. Fun activities will include a drumming activity and fitness circuit and colouring competition gallery. The breakfast is supported by the Cumberland Child Protection Interagency and in attendance will be the Cumberland Mayor,

NSW Police, NSW Health and other non-government community workers to meet students, parents and friends. We will have a morning assembly where colouring and poster competition winners will be announced and prizes presented!

So come along and join in the fun from 8am on Thursday 29th August! We hope to see you there!

Lost Property

Unfortunately our lost property pile is growing on a daily basis. I know you share my frustration in seeing piles of new clothing that children have misplaced. If your child has lost an item of clothing then please come up to the veranda outside the school office to collect it. Any unlabelled items not taken within two weeks will be put into our second hand clothing pile.

Sport Update

Winter PSSA season is coming to an end soon, two only two games left in the season. We are all excited to see if our Oz-tag and Newcombe Ball teams have made it into the semi-finals which will take place in two weeks. It was great to see fantastic sportsmanship in all teams at all games and it will be great to see this continued for the rest of the year. Congratulations to the senior boy’s oz-tag team who are currently second on the ladder and junior boy’s oz-tag who are third. Good luck to all teams at the last two matches of the season.

The Centre is buzzing with events:

Playgroup is getting busier every week as we welcome many new families to our groups. This week we had Dinosaurs everywhere. We had dinosaur books to read, dinosaur puzzles, stamps, cut outs and colouring in. Children enjoyed dressing up as dinosaurs and hatching Playdough dinosaur eggs…. Guess what was inside?? We even danced like dinosaurs and sang dinosaur songs and painted plaster dinosaurs.

We don’t have dinosaurs at Playgroup every week…. Sometimes we have colours or bugs, balls and parachutes …always lots of fun. Next week we are dressing up as our favourite book characters for ‘Book Week’. We do have vacancies for Playgroup at the moment – call Julie on 9892 2328 for information or call in to the centre and have a chat with Julie.

Our Speech and Language Therapy program begins this week. This is a wonderful partnership with Sydney University and this Semester we have 17 Granville South Students participating adding to the 15 pre-school aged children participating.

On Friday our Music Therapy Program begins. This will be a lot of fun and a great experience for the children. This is a partnership with Western Sydney University.

I do have a vacancy for two more families. If you have a child aged between 2 and 4 years old and can attend the program for 6 weeks on a Friday morning 9.30 – 11am, please call me on 9892 2328 or see me in the SaCC office.

Next Tuesday our Getting Ready for School Program starts. This is a fun group to help prepare for starting Big School and leads very nicely into our Kindergarten Transition Program in Term 4. This group is full – there are no vacancies

Terms 3 and 4 are always busy in the GS SaCC, but never too busy to help or welcome a new family.

Around the School 3/2E STEM Challenges

Gymnastics Stage 1 have been enjoying gymnastics lessons this term. The qualified instructors have been teaching our students gymnastics skills including jumping, balancing and various landing techniques. The sessions have been both challenging and fun as the students use various apparatus such as balance beams, vaults, trampolines and bars to refine their skills. Students have been learning how to crab walk, bear walk, move along the bars and have used their body to roll along the mats in different poses. These sessions will run till Week 7 of this term.
